  1. When shooting film always expect the worst, at least you got the majority of your stuff back. If I get anything back it's a positive.
  2. What kind of system specifically did you use to make the monitor?
  3. I own a K-3 that i love and I'm looking to step it up a bit to a sync sound 16mm. I have a limited budget and haven't decided if i want to rent an aaton or buy something cheaper. my options would be: 1)CP-16r my first choice 2)Arri 16s with conversion 3)Auricon? I see these things for cheap all the time. What is "sound on film"? can it record sync sound? is there an image problem because they don't seem popular. why? Also, how hard would it be to Shoot exteriors in super 16 and blend in digital from a pd-170 or other high end digicam for an indie feature? It would be way easier to shoot sound and talking heads, but would it look lousy? any advice would be appreciated. kirk
  4. have you shot any test footage you could show? and if you don't mind me asking what was your cost for everything? anythought of getting a crystal sync if you could find one? I just got a K-3 and basically want to use yours for a model guide. also where did you get the lens and how much? i can't stand this fricken zoom lens. kirk
  5. 1) Pee Wee's Big Adventure....... Incredible, favorite Tim Burton film hands down 2)Point Break......I'm a cop, but I'm a surfer, but I'm a cop, But I'm a surfer. Day for night surfing is aweseome lol 3)The Cable Guy.....I dunno, this movie is so undefineable.
  6. thanks so much John. I was hoping to hear from you and that's exactly what i was wondering. thanks again Kirk also if anyone has any experiance with these stocks whats your take on the difference?
  7. please forgive my seemingly obivous question, but which black and white stock should i use in an: 1)Automatic Exposure, 18 fps, cheapo Chinon 132 Pxl 2)with lots of sun, on the beach. will the difference between 100 asa or 200 asa have a great deal of difference with auto exposure? I've shot a lot with nicer super 8 cams with my sekonic light meter, but im looking for the best stock i can shoot for a fun in the sun and not worry about metering. just goofing around on spring break. 7265 or 7266, or is there anything else that will work in an older auto exposure camera? thanks kirk
  8. I'm a film student in SF and i mostly shoot 16mm, with my sekonic light meter attached to my hip. Recently i started playing with 64T and some black and white super 8, which has been pretty awesome. I'm going on spring break next week and I want to bring a super 8 cam to shoot some beach fun, ie girls and maybe just have some stock tropical footage for future projects. I have a Gaf st 110, that has manual exposure, so i light meter and adjust f stops, but it's heavy and i don't want to risk breaking it. I also have a Chinon 132pxl that i picked up at goodwill for 4 dollars, auto exposure and 18fps, perfect for messing around and not too worried if it gets dropped in the ocean. I'm worried about not using a light meter and using auto exposure, but i don't want to break or lose my $400 sekonic light meter on spring break. Is there any way I can shoot 64T accurately with the chinon? If not, what is the best Black and White Stock to shoot on the beach, on a sunny day in mexico? My options are: 1)64T 2)kodak 7265 Plus X reversal, El 100 daylight 3)Kodak 7266 EL 200 daylight Whats my best bet for this dinky super 8 and some fun in the sun in Rosarito?
  9. "Hey Man, I'm not trying to scam anyone here man." I just got a couple rolls of film that have no use to me that might be of use to someone else. If they fog they fog, No one is going to use these for a ten milllion dollar project. im just trying to help someone else out for helping me out. Cross post repeat, I just like posting lebowski quotes on this forum.

  11. I recently bought a box of old 16mm and super 8 equipment off craigslist and in the bottom of the box were 2 100' rolls of Eastman EXR 200T 5287 Color negative film, 35mm. I have no clue how old the film is and it hasn't been refridgerated until it came into my pocession. I opened up one can in the total darkness of my closet and found it still had the paper and aorund the outside and it felt and appeared to be unused. I don't own a Filmo or have any use for 35mm so here we are now. I've heard it can be kind of cool to respool and use in a still camera as well as just use it for regular shooting. I'd do a test shot first, just to make sure there is no fogging, but my guess it the film is just fine. I'd love to trade for any old cool super 8 or 16mm stuff. I primarily need a super 8 projector or 16mm split reels or anything else neat. Let me know if you have anything worth trading or are particularly interested. thanks for reading my stupid long post. Kirk

  13. Here we go, So, Two weeks ago I bought a K-3 and showed my friend and work associate who will remain nameless. He thought it was awesome and we planned to shoot the next week. Three days ago I found a sweet deal on a bolex reflex for $300 and called ther lady and agreed to buy it. I then told my friend and offered that we could split it 150 each, so we would have two 16mm cameras in our Kit. I got stuck working a double shift the only time we could pick it up so I sent him and he offered to front the 300 and I would pay him later that night. So now he just called me at work and told me it is sweet and he's thinking if it's ok with me he'll just keep the camera so he has his own and we will still be a team. I said we'd talk later to figure it out. So here's my question, Which is better? Is the K-3 just as good as the bolex? Their both spring wound and the K-3 has a Fat M-42 screw mount while the bolex has a smaller c-mount. I like the feel of the K-3, because i 've shot other bolex's, I was just wondering if there is any reason, aside from my pride, that i should just give him the Bolex, will i be kicking myself in the ass later? Kirk P.s. I also talked the lady down from $500 to $300 does that count for anything?
  14. cool, what kind of camera did you shoot this with? did you use the automatic exposure? the piano kind of distracted me from the film, but whatever floats your boat. check out my 16mm bolex short. let me know what you think.
  15. yeah, when you're editing manually sometimes you drop the work print on the ground. lol, it happens. Where would i get a cheap telecine? kirk
  16. 1)Does anyone know of the best deal for 100' spools of 16mm stock? I found a site called "the film Emporium" that sells stock for around 30 cents a foot, not bad. Anyone ever delt with them, are they reputable? I'm shooting a K-3 so can only shoot 100' spools. I guess i could buy a set of rewinds and spool off 400 footers, but seems like the savings isn't worth cleaning out my closet so i can sit inside and attempt to not ruin $150 dollars of film. 2) What is a good all around stock to practice on? As I said before I'm shooting a K-3 with it's zoom lens as well as a 50mm Pentacon. What is the best for shooting around outside, maybe on the beach? (I live on Ocean Beach in San Francisco) As well as shooting indoors with non-professional lights. I mostly use three aluminum work lights that i bought from Home Depot and I tape Wax paper over the top to soften them up. (Give me a break I'm only 20 years old.) I'm mostly interested in filming color film, reversal or negative. 3)Which stock is better Kodak or Fuji? I've always used Eastman/kodak, never shot a roll of fuji. dunno why, just always felt comfortable with the kodak name i guess. 4)I like shooting reversal because it's cheaper to process, but I've heard it doesn't telecine very well. Any reasons why i should shoot negative or reversal. Thanks so much everyone. I really appreciate the help.
  17. fu**ing rock man, your selections are totally prime, now you just need to choose your favorites and the ones that show your versatility and skill. Very impressed, how long have you been a DP? it this all 35mm and HD or is there some 16 rolling around?
  18. Matchless http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3...84121287&q=sfsu Here's a short film I shot in Two days with a Bolex wind up. It's not too impressive other than the fact that I only shot two 100 foot rolls in 6 hours and I edited it completely on a Flatbed Steenbeck with a gullotine and tape in about 8 hours. I know old skool technology but I wanted to do it right. The steenbeck scratched the hell out of my workprint and im not excited to throw down cash for someone to cut the negative, it was more of a learning process in 16mm than anything else. I still have the negative, I could telecine it but I'd rather spend the cash on color stock for my new K3. Let me know what you think. In the end I projected it on a Eiki and shot it off with a crappy handicam of my buddies, because I left my PD 150 at home, D'oh! Now i don't have a projector and i have a goofy ass reel. SO, please bear with all the scratches, dust, tape, blood sweat and tears. Let me know if you have anywork as well. Kirk BelvedereProductions@gmail.com PS check out my other video, Brand new Colony
  19. I did this for fun, origianally it was a 20 minute short film, but after shooting the first two scenes my main character bailed on me. and i had a lot of footage to play with. The song was originally background, but I bumped it up and took out the dialouge. Hey Eric Steelberg! awesome site, any chance you want to send it their direction? Long shot, but i might as well try. thanks, Kirk BelvedereProductions@gmail.com
  20. Hey guys, heres a music video i shot on two PD 150's when i was 18 and living in Park merced at SFSU. Let me know what you think. thanks kirk http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6644075497408025100
  21. I just bought a sweet K-3 and am loving it so far. here are some questions i have. 1) It came with a zoom lens but i was wondering what other kinds of lenses people have used with sucess. also, where could i pick some up? Do they make a set of Cooke Primes that will fit? doubtful but i might as well ask. 2) I might convert to the Super 16 gate. If i do, how do i project that? I have a Graflex 900 i use for my footage then i shoot it off the wall with a HD cam. Will my projector work with the super 16? I know dumb questions but i'm hesitant about super 16, i just know the final presentation will be worth it. 3) I've heard that it's worth it to remove the loops. Why? and has anyone done this for better results? I've shot a fair amount of 16 but only with a bolex from my university. I'm ready to shoot my own stuff and dive in head first. Any other suggestions for this Camera? Lenses, fun filters, Film stock preference? i'm a sponge, so just tell me as much as you can. thanks Kirk
