  1. Well thanks so much Will and Dominic! You've really set my mind at ease. I know what you mean about pet photos, they are cheesy, but I love him so much! Millenium Bridge II is one my top five faves for sure, it's moody. And I love moody. Always check the model before buying. Even the most expensive ones can have the odd wonky transfer that'll ruin your photo. Take care all!
  2. How about Ralph Fiennes? He was a fantastic Voldemort!
  3. Hello. I've recently been really paranoid that my skills as a photographer aren't getting better. I wonder if you'd take a look at my photos for this year, and give your opinion please. I wouldn't ask were it not for the fact I'm rather bad at judging my own work. Thanks! Here.
  4. I'm pretty worried about film now. Gordon Brown is now referring to things as a depression now, and not a recession, and he really is onw for glossing over things.
  5. I believe Kodak's CMOS sensors are going into CCTV cameras, webcams, and mobile phones these days, as well as their farly modest range of digital compacts and bridges, not exactly the illustrious future they would have been hoping for, an omen, I feel, for them to stick with film and never EVER deviate! :P
  6. I don't know why, but I think Charlie Schlatter from Diagnosis Murder would be a good joker. His slightly whiny voice would be a change from Heath Ledger, a different sort of macarbe.
  7. I never would have guessed that! Seemed natural for seperate companies to fight tooth and claw to me, but you really have a point there. Thanks a lot! ;)
  8. If I may butt in, anybody developing CMOS sensors should also dedicate time to improving rolling shutter technology. The two do seem to go hand in hand. Also, I think Kodak were the CMOS giants a while back, but you're right in that Sony, Canon, and Nikon's sensors really are something. Nikon has a Sony-derived CMOS in it's D3x. Considering that Sony is only one place behind Nikon in the DSLR sales race that sensor must be (and is) a real silicon gem! Nikon would probably have rather gone anywhere for a sensor except their competitor, including Kodak. Good day, Sam!
  9. The thing I love so much about Polaroid bases is that they're so relatively poor technically. Taking a Polaroid 600 is a bit like stepping back 50 years, and so much the better for it. We don't all want polished souless zero's and one's for our images from here on. No matter what we may worry about, the soul of our art will live on. Chef's don't heat up microwave ready meals, they use a sophisticated palette of ingredients, and perfectly hone it over decades. I don't think we will allow our selves to lose our most exotic ingredients.
  10. That is the ultimate image of steely professionalism! I dare say you'll be fighting away the producers from Working Title now. No? And again on a serious note this is rather lovely bokeh. It gives enough impresion of the backround without dustracting people from you, so hats off!
  11. I'm actually amazed this didn't happen months ago, while people are having trouble making enough for the most simple requirements of modern life I can't see them buying costly celluloid film. This recession I feel is pretty bad news for the celluloid film industry in general. If anywhere is going to go first I'd say it would be the Super 8mm department, followed by the 35mm stills department. All rather worrying, as I'm a user of both. Has Fuji expressed any concerns over stability recently?
  12. Watching Singin' In The Rain back in March 2006 was what finally got interested in being a DP. I think it was just the whole hollywood spirit of the thing.
  13. I know it's not completely cinematography related but I've made a group on Flickr.com called Noirish Stuff. It's open to anyone, and the only parameter is noir-ish stuff to contribute to the group, be that photo's, frame grabs, graphic art, etc. If I know and trust you I'll promote you to moderator, but there'll only ever be one administrator. Me. Have fun! And thanks to John Allen for his wonderful contributions already! :)
  14. Oh! It's one of those companies is it? Well thanks for the advice, I'll buy from Tamron instead. If an AF motor can break in one of their lenses it can certainly do so in my super-cheap Sony kit lenses! Ooh...err!
  15. And I thought Sigma were quality... <_< Very sorry to hear that Stuart, that lens must have cost more than my DSLR ans lenses combined! Though simply removing the AF motor will surey work, it can't retard your focusing if is isn't there....
  16. I'm surprised Stuart. With a lovely SLR like that one don't you ever want to come over all...telephoto-ish? I think I invented a new word there!
  17. LOL! :D That is indeed some CF card!
  18. They operate a considerable fleet of Boeing 757's, perhaps the most dull and dreary narrow-body airliner ever built, made even more boring as a freighter.
  19. My first impressions were very wrong, David is a first class guy!

  20. Either way, they're both terrific machines. I would go with what your heart says and keep the 801, I doubt the extra features of the Pro will be absolutely neccesary unless you're on a big project with loads of time and money invested, in which case the Pro would probably be best, not that I profess to have any sort of expertise worth mentioning on the subject (that's Mr Lehnert's department). Also, if your girlfriend is so eager that you part with one of your treasured possesions for money (which is what I presume it is, what with the recession n'all) perhaps she should part with one of hers too.
  21. You lucky thing! The only time I'll be able to afford one of them is when they're old an out of date. From what I've read it has the best optical viewfinder of any DSLR in existance. 100% coverage, and fantastically bright adnd clear.
  22. It is odd. Especially as it's completely fine now, which reminds me, great photos from you all! I couldn't possibly pick a favourite, but my picture pales into insignificance in comparison. Best wishes to you all!
  23. Got it today! It's amazing how much nicer to use than the A300. I never saw too much wrong with the A300's viewfinder, but that A200's is like a move from pinhole to pin factory!
  24. Nope, I agree, but this is just a small hypothetical thread. BTW, Chris and Saul, neither of your photos are showing, there's just a large red cross in their places.
