  1. Hello, I have been reading about technicolor on wikipedia. It explains that the image is split by a prism onto two pieces of film, the light from one beam goes throught a green filter and the other a red. The two negatives are then dyed appropriately. What i don't understand is where the blues come from. Can anyone explain? Thank you.
  2. For those interested you can get all types of reversal film processed at Andec in Berlin. I am sending my film to them.
  3. I agree if there is an obvious dent or broken part. however if it is a functional problem like power and the seller says that they have not tested it i think that is part of the risk you take. I bought a polaroid off ebay that didn't work because the film door wouldn't lock because a part had snapped off. The seller obviously knew it was broken and did not mention it in the auction.
  4. I have managed to get my hands on this old syncronizer: http://www.oscarsdrawings.com/images/syncronizer.jpg I would love to use it but it has no magnetic tape head and no way of playing sound. Does anyone know how i can rig this up with sound so i can use it to sync up, the old fashioned way? Thank you, Oscar.
  5. Visually, how does reversal BW film look when processed to a neg rather than a positive?
  6. Hi David, Do you know how they integrated the colour parts into raging bull?
  7. Could someone please tell me how to reset the footage counter on my arri 16bl ? Thank you.
  8. It seems there are currently no places in the UK that process BW reversal so could someone recommend a place in europe that could do it? Thank you.
  9. For those who are interested here is what i have found. Film and Photo are the only place i have found in the UK that do process reversal film. They can process colour reversal. They can only process BW reversal to come out as a negative. Their minimum charge is £60.
  10. I was wondering how the look in this video was created. Do you think it was flashed? It isn't a very good quality video i'm afraid but it is the best i can find. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ4ZxtaGxuU
  11. Thank you all, I have got hold of a 4000 report monitor in very nice condition, and it does sound good. I am only using a basic mic at the moment. I also got one that needs a new belt so thank you for that link Hal.
  12. Hello all, I did post this in the sound forum but it seems very few people look at the sound forum. Have any of you had any experience with Uher report monitors for recording sound. I am going to be making a film with piano music, ambient sounds (birds etc.) and over dubbed narrative so sync is not an issue. Are they good? I cannot afford a Nagra. If you recommend them what would be a good microphone for my purposes? Thank you, Oscar.
  13. On top of what has already been mentioned; Raging Bull, Great Expectations and more recently Good Night and Good Luck, which i hear was shot in colour and made balck and white after for less grain.
  14. Hello, Does anyone know of any labs in the UK that process 16mm reversal film? Thank you, Oscar.

  16. what is a solid state recorder?
  17. Thanks guys. I know how i would edit and sync the sound. What i don't know is what format i would use for the sound. What did people use before computers? I will look into DAT. Even if the everything was digitized, i want to have the finished film on film for projection, so is an optical track on the film the only way to project with sound? Thanks, Oscar.
  18. I don't know of any cameras that can be "easily" converted to super 16. However a good option for what you want i think would be an aaton LTR 32. They are extremely quiet and i'm pretty sure it can go upto 60fps. It can be converted to 16mm. I would also recommend an ARRI 16bleq or 16bl with a crystal sync motor. This camera cannot be converted to super 16 though.
  19. I am planning on making a short film using traditional techniques. No telecine or computers involved. So could anybody please suggest some ways of doing the sound. Thank you, Oscar.
  20. I prefer the 4:3 ratio version. Not just for this film but generally. More recently Van Sant's Elephant was shot and projected in the cinema at 4:3 and i think it looks amazing. When you see something in 4:3 at the cinema i think it makes a nice change.
