  1. The Northridge company is quite reasonable. Is the Rank transfer going to be lesser than a Thomson Shadow transfer? There's a company in Seattle (which is closer to my home town of Portland) with a Thomson Shadow and it's $300 hr. which I'll pay if it's a better transfer. ...I also just want to add that I hope if Yale starts doing K40, you'll let us know asap (this from a recent thread, not this one).
  2. New stocks!?! Ooh! Do tell, John!
  3. But there is still no Ektachrome 100D in Super 8, right?
  4. Oops, emitted is what I meant to type. Could you explain what it means to resolve audio? I'm kind of new at the sound side of things. Are there other recorders other than Nagras that will recieve pilotone?
  5. The Nizo Professional, 801 Macro and 561 Macro were the only Nizo cameras that omitted a pilot tone signal. What audio recorders were made that recieved this signal?

    A Modest Proposal...

How would Mr. Pytlak compare the Pro8 stock to what Kodak has to offer in its Vision2 stocks in terms of quality?
  7. Thanks, Reed! Say, I just bought a used EWA barney for the 801 camera and rumor has it that you were the original owner! It's very well made and I'm quite pleased. I wonder why barneys like this one weren't made for the 6080, etc. line of sound cameras. I'm going to try to squeeze this thing around a 6080 anyway!
  8. Even though they're in Seattle, I'd check out Flying Spot. Say, are the Nizo cameras rock steady? Anyone have any experiences with the 6080's steadiness?
  9. A year ago, I had read that Cintel was releasing a scanner called DataMill that was going to be able to scan various formats (including super 8) at 2k resolution at about 12fps, which is quite fast. Anyone know of a post house using DataMill with a Super 8 gate yet? If not, who does a 2k scan in the U.S.?

    A Modest Proposal...

Mr. Pytlak, is this accurate information? Is Kodak's Vision stock's thickness effecting its steadiness? I hadn't heard that.
  11. Hi. Does anyone have a link to a Nizo 801 macro manual in English? I'd love to read it before I have one sent from Germany. Thanks for your help!
  12. The person I use for my Nizos is Manfred Bolender at ASA-DIN Camera Repairs in Seattle, WA. For one thing, he's German and he's very very thorough. 206.632.6339.

    Nizo 60m magazine

This is really for curiosity sake more than anything. The high end Nizo cameras that accepted 60m super 8 film, did the magazines come with the camera and then need to be reloaded, or did Kodak actually produce disposable 60m magazines that popped onto the top of the Nizo camera. I've seen pictures of these 60m reels, and can't seem to tell if they are reuseable or not. Since there are companies that produce 200ft rolls of super 8, could one EASILY refill one of these magazines or were they meant to be filled and unloaded by a lab only? Please reply if you have actually seen or used one of these 200 footers and not just speculating. Thanks!
  14. So in your experience, are the Nizo non-sound cameras about the same amount of noise as the sound cameras, esp. the 801 Macro or Professional?
  15. If the size of the lens affects the amount of sound, then is the 6056 quieter than the 6080? I guess I was curious about non-sounds being quieter because there are less mechanics inside to make noise (possibly). Thanks for your information.
  16. Would a camera that doesn't record sound run more quietly, i.e. Nizo 801 Macro or Professional? Has anyone had experience with the 801 macro?
  17. So Mr. Pytlak- If we send multiple rolls together to District and ask that the rolls be prepped for transfer, will we be ensured that the rolls will be put together and shipped as one roll, or are they going to come back to us piecemeal?
  18. These are very interesting responses. I wonder if all the problems you all have experienced is because of Dwayne's or this other company in New Jersey. When you have sent multiple rolls, have you been clear about prepping them together for transfer? And has anyone had experiences with District Photo in Maryland? This seems to be the company that Kodak suggests.
  19. Initially, when I contacted Kodak to buy rolls of K40, I was told by Kodak that if I buy the film that comes with a mail-in developing voucher that the film would be sent to Switzerland and would take six weeks for the film to get back to me. As it turns out, and this is what I have to share, the film can be sent to District Photo in Beltsville, Maryland, who then sends the film to Dwayne's for development. According to District Photo, this process should only take about ten days, which is only about six days more than sending it directly to Dwayne's, and considerably cheaper (less about $10 per roll). Has anyone been using the K40 mailer, how long does it in fact take to receive the film back and have you been sending your film to District Photo? Thanks!
  20. Cintel has been testing with the DataMill and Grace In A Box for a while now...does any post house in the world own one of these yet? Anyone know? My understanding is that it can scan 2k at 15fps, which is pretty fast, which should make the scan somewhat reasonable.
  21. Gentleman, there's always room for options. The existence of a 60m mag should not threaten the craftsmanship of the cameras you hold dear. It would simply be another option for the super 8 shooter. Let's not speak so hypothetically, shall we? There's room for all possibility, as seen in the creative spirit that is Eastman Kodak which continues to push new boundaries.
  22. Thank you, John. I'm so glad you look out for us. I wish there WAS a way to form a petition to get a sense of how many super 8 users would benefit from Kodak providing 60m rolls of film.
  23. So recently I've seen posts here about a few companies that offer 60m/200 ft. rolls of super 8 film, including Andec in Germany which offers Fuji film that way. Please please please, Kodak, it seems that as Super 8 is growing in popularity and as it is the dawning of the digital intermediate, it's about time to bring back longer rolls of film! Is there any possibility of making mags of K40 and the new neg stocks like they did back in the heyday of Super 8 (I hope I hope I hope...)?
  24. I'm sure we would all love to know WHO is making these S8 mags. Do tell if this is true.
  25. Great to hear someone take the plunge and discover a new tool. I appreciate your response.
