  1. Exactly. Super 8 is a wonderful tool with unique abilities and attributes, use it as such without lamenting its pronounced grain, etc. In addition I don't think that a new super 8 camera would need many additions, I certainly would NOT want a super 8 camera with and LCD or EVF as others have suggested, a video tap would be o.k. but not on my list. A new super 8 camera that would be teriffic would be 16:9, have interchangable lenses, a big bright viewfinder with TV safe and 16:9 markings, it would have vairable frame rates from 0 - 100 and be constant at 23.98. A longer load would be great as well, a good battery system, and a good 2 stage matte box and rods would finish things off. That is about all I would want, well O.K. I would love the ability to shoot with swing and shift lenses on super 8, that would be amazing, but I know it will never happen. Also a new camera could drop some old features that are not really necessary such as auto exposure, and in camera dissolves.
  2. What kind of camera do you have? Since the majority of Super 8 cameras have fixed lenses there should not be a problem with the back focus unless the camera was dropped or something like that, but that would probably just mean you should buy a new camera. I have never seen a super 8 lens with a back focus flange. I wouldn't think there is such a thing.
  3. When you say it does not have the resoulition of K40 do you mean that it looks grainier? Also how would you describe the color? The little 64T I have seen tended to lean towards more pastel color representation and was desaturated but both of those could have resulted from the way the film was shot and telecined rather than the film itself. Any additional info you could provide would we welcomed. thanks.
  4. I guess my question would be why don't you consider the P+S Tecnik system as being tried and tested? Perhaps you don't like the spinning ground glass, that would make sense, anything else?
  5. Greetings, I am getting back into shooting super 8 after about 5 years spent away from the format. I am delighted by the fact that Kodak and others have introduced new stocks. I am doing some tests of my own in the next few weeks but I am wondering what comparisons folks have done or what experiences people have had with the new stocks. How is the Spectra Film and Video cut down of Fuji Velvea? How are the pro8mm fuji cut downs? My favorite kodak stock of all time is 7245, any of the new super 8 stocks have similar characteristics? I shoot super 8 mostly in daylight exterior situations. I have also heard rumors that some of these cut downs are not done well, that they are dirty etc, any truth to these rumors? One final question, if anyone has experience with super 8 to HD telecine, I'm curious as to how you feel it compares to telecine to digibeta. Don't bother mentioning cost, its not an issue, I'm concerned strictly with aesthetics, and how HD handles super 8. also did you pillar box, or place a 16:9 matte on the super 8? how does the grain structure look on HD? thanks
