  1. I use the sony xdcam (the 530) allot and i have been able to make some real nice filmic settings in camera. what i do is go very low on the master black and in the matrix i actually took out some color to get a less saturated look while retaining good skin tones. then shooting in 25P with a 1/8 or 1/4 black promist on a long lens at f2.8 and the shutter at 1/50 wil give me good results i must say though that you must talk about doing this with your editor and director because you can't do allot with the footage color correction wise, i use this on shoots with very tight deadlines so no time wil be wasted in CC. sander,
  2. thanks for your fast reply! being a Video guy myself i have never done the measuring thing. so would i measure this from the back of the lens at the bayonet ring or from te focus ring? thnx
  3. thanks guys. I told the client that i will do it under the condition that i get the camera a few days in advance so i can get familier with the camera. I did speak to one cameraman that does allot of drama productions on HD, he told me that it's very hard to see if your focussed in the viewfinder because it can't handle HD. is this true and is there a way to work arround this problem? thnx,
  4. hi, I am a ENG camera operator using mainly XDCAM (sony PDW-530) and DIGIBETA (Sony DVW-790). I client asked me if i am able to shoot something for him on HD using the sony HDW-750P. Now i have never used this camera and never shot HD before, would it be wise for me to accept the job? What i'm asking is would this be a big change from shooting on XD or BETA? thanks, Sander
  5. Make sure you don't exceed 20kg on one single piece of bagage. Bagage handelers aren't allow to lift more then 20 kg so your case wil be refused on the plane. Had this happen once... i had 10 minutes to buy a weekend bag and split the weight before the gate closed. also carry your camera with a tape inside, batterie on the camera, a mic and camera light on the camera in the cabin of the plane just in case they loose your stuff you will still be able to shoot something till they find your bags wich in some country's can take a few days (like spain ;)
  6. hi, This could be me but wouldn't a 2K be a bit much for just a headshot?? I try to keep my light level down to stay around f2.8 to get a nice seperation between the subject and the background. What i like to do for headshots is a 500w chimera with a grid to give the light some more direction and flag off the spill on the background. maybe if i feel that the shot needs it i'll put a bounce board on the other side for fill but 9 out of 10 times i won't use any fill. then use a 300w for backlight with something like 1/2 CTB on it and light the background with a dedo or a 300w fresnel with a gobo and a desired gel to color the background and maybe a dedo to make something in the background pop out a little bit. it's a pretty basic set-up but it works for me.
  7. i'm not really sure if this is the real name for but in the Netherlands we call it Cosmo gel, it's basicly a frost gel but then with a sort of peachy/pink color. i think it's called "Bastard Amber" made by rosco but i'm not sure on that one. This give works well when you want to warm op a skin tone a bit without creating a very unreal look in your shot. Sander,
  8. The gy-HD100 also uses either a DV compression or an MPEG-2 compression plus it only has a 1/3" chip where the digi has a 2/3" chip.
  9. i'm doing a chromakey project at this moment for a national TV show, i'm using 2 (500Watt) tungsten lights for the screen using a spot meter to make sure the light levels are the same on the whole screen. be sure to use 2 lights coming from the screen as backlight this will help allot with your key. greetz, Sander
  10. hi, A director asked me if i can shoot HD... I have allot of experience using sony digibeta's (dvw790) and XD-cam's DV-cam's etc. My question is would the workflow be allot different using the cinealta 900 then it would be an XDCAM? So could I with a day or two of experimenting with the camera shoot HD? it would be a corporate film for presenting a new kind of industrial machine. thnx, Sander
  11. Thanks everyone for the responses... had the shoot yesterday and all went well! Sander,
  12. hi, I need to use some filters on a Digibeta soon i. since i never used them before i have a couple of questions about this matter. 1. if for instance i would use a 1/8 black promist and a polarizer do i need to take them out when i white balance or can i keep them in front of the lens? 2. is there a particular order in wich filters are placed, would you put the polarizer in front or behind the promist or the other way around? 3. do i need to change the density of a promist when i make a close or a wide shot... for example use a 1/8 on close ups and a 1/4 on long shots? thnx in advance.
