I was a fan of the CP16r. It was a neat camera once you figured out its quirks. My bane was always the issue with the shutter not being in sync with the pull claws. I did finally (thanks to this forum actually!) learn how to overcome that problem and check it out every day before a shoot and it became just as customary as checking the gate for hair. I never could get the Mitchell mags to run as quiet as the ugly square mags that came with the camera. That was sad because I had to choose between aesthetics vs silence on the set. Silence always wins though.

And we also have to be prepared to be called out for being an butt and making childish comments using words as "stupid" to refer to someone else or their ideas. No matter how intellectual one here is, there are others whose knowledge and skills far surpass ours. We should consider how we would feel if one of our betters came here and trashed our ideas to the stone age.

In a time period where shaming is generally frowned upon (fat shaming, victim shaming, etc), I would hope that people do not need to have it explained to them why such demeaning talk is wrong.

You are playing semantics. Let me put this another way...can you imagine a teacher telling their student that. not them, but their argument was "dumb, ignorant, or stupid?" If so, I cannot imagine this educator would last long teaching. I realize some here have an axe to grind with Tyler (myself on occasion) but resorting to demeaning terms is not the way to handle it for people who "fashion" themselves as professional.

David, I addressed this from Landon's similar statement. Maybe it is just the people I know who are fans of GoT but they act more like people watching a UFC event than watching a play from antiquity.

Come on man, let's be intellectually honest here. There is a huge difference between "portraying" bad in the world and "glorifying" it. People who watch GoT are watching so for the same reason that the Mob of Rome liked the Gladiator Arena. Other movies may present the bad in the world but usually there is some other purpose than to appeal to the brute in us.

Agreed. That is why I have no interest in GoT. The violence is a serious turn off. Anyone who denies that GoT is not appealing to the primitive part of a person is not being honest with themselves. It may be well directed with good production value but the core of the show is somewhat glorifying all that is wrong with the world.

I have contacted some web distribution services and they have informed me of the Closed Caption requirement. My question is: What is the best CC service for the money? I am looking into getting 23.98 fps and .scc since iTunes only allows that from what I have heard. Others allow more but I figured if I do it once, I save money. Thanks for any help you can give.

I agree with Richard that GoT seems to rely on appealing to the primitive part of people for ratings. I also agree with John that this isn't necessarily a bad thing. I DO find it hypocritical, however, that GoT is critically praised while a movie like Caligula was universally panned. I found Caligula to be superior in every way from set design to great talented cast and it left me seriously thinking about the dangers of living a life for only one's own gratification. I had a rather humorous conversation with my wife the other day that I believe Christians should view Caligula to get a deeper insight into the time period and unimaginable tyranny that the early Church lived under. I doubt most churches would agree with me though. :lol:

I think it is also important of which kind of degree you have. Generally, the types of degrees with difficult "weed out" courses that make the average person say "wow, that is hard" are the kind of degrees you want to have. Hell, I know people with degrees in Electrical Engineering that could fund decent budget films every few years if they wanted to and still live comfortably.

Try this...make a video game and give it dreadful input like Castlevania:Rondo of Blood and bad sound effects and tell me how much VR saves the day as players are tearing their hair out trying to feel some semblance of control in their virtual world.

I believe that indies should be held to the same standard as pros...provided you account for the differences in your analysis. Too many people expect indies to compete with Hollywood without the budget being taken into consideration. I guess a way to look at it is this...reverse the roles...take Michael Bay, Spielberg, or any A-lister Director and see what they could do with a budget of 500k, 250k, 100k, 50k, 25k or less even and NO favors from A-lister friends. Could they make anything better? I cannot definitively answer this but it would be a fun case study to explore.

I am not a DP by any means but do come from years of experience in the video game industry. The "immersion" of video games has nothing to do with the color temperature of the image. I recall meetings where the sole purpose was to discuss techniques for immersing players into the game. Not once did I hear anyone mention about color temperature. Gaming companies have even funded psychological studies to determine this phenomenon. The most basic implementation is, believe it or not, intuitive controls (making the player feel in control of his/her environment) and the sound (fx, music were appropriate.) Graphics, for all of their beauty and fun, do not significantly contribute to immersion in a vacuum. Only once you have the other two things down will everything else matter.
