  1. oh man the 1st shot is my favorite:( Thanks for the imput, its funny Im getting a lot of polar opposite opinions here someone says make the edits longer, then you say make edits shorter and faster haha I think Im gonna leave my reel as it is for now, until the next one? thanks for you thoughts:)
  2. yes to be considered "good cinematography" it would have to be?
  3. Im looking to rent a super16 camera Im leaning towards an Arriflex sr3 Besides clairmont cameras where else in vancouver could I rent super16mm camera and equipment? Im having no luck on google:(
  4. Okay thanks Also how would you go about converting the footage to 24p? could it be done in final cut pro, or do you need certain software? And Ive heard its a pain to upload the footage in final cut pro? does anyone know the best solutions?
  5. Also what does the camera record to? is it SD cards? and how many minutes do you get per card? and can the footage be edited on final cut pro?
  6. Thanks Oliver Do you think it would be possible to record the sound on a mini dv camera? with a better Mic of course? but say the camera was set to 30p to match the frame rate of the canon camera, would that work? I dont know much about sound, I would just like to shoot some tests before the actual shoot. and Im sure our sound guy will have his own professional recorder? but in the mean time I was hoping to use a small mini dv camera for sound then sinc up the audio later
  7. Im wondering if anyone has shot a narrative film on the Canon 5D mark 2 yet? The only stuff Ive seen of the camera has been films with no talking. I know you would need a seperate system for audio, just wondering if anyone has tried that yet? I got a television pilot coming up in the summer, and 50% takes place at night on the streets. And I could really use the high ISO the camera has to offer.
  8. hi please check out this trailer for a short film I shot last Fall, called "Lions, tigers,Bears its a weird name I know? I had a great time making this film, it was 90% night shoots, most of the time in the pouring rain. it was hard work, but Im quite happy with the way it turned out, I was the DOP I had a terrific crew, I cant give them enough credit. alot of the footage is on my new demo reel, which I just posted a few days ago in the same forum page. LOL Ive been posting a lot of stuff lately in that section? anyways its youtube quality:( but you can watch it in 720 HD so please watch it in that formate:)
  9. Ive always been told to make sure your DP demo reel shows lots of variety, and keeps the viewer interested. I was more worried my reel had to much nightclub footage? The link you gave me, I thought the cinematography was good, but the reel it self was boring And I don't really see how that is considered a narrative dp reel, I mean it seemed like the guy just took half a scene right out of the film, and removed the dialog and put down some music. I know cinematography is telling a story with images, and how those images move the story along, but to try and incorporate a story into the DOP reel, seems like a bad idea to me? I would be afraid the viewer might not notice the cinematography? maybe Im wrong? But thanks rob for the advice, I'll still take it into consideration.
  10. Hmm an older reel I did, some one told me to break it up more? So are you saying I should keep all the different films separate from one another? keep one film at the begining, then move on to the next one?
  11. so does any one have any more comments, good or bad? thanks
  12. Of course it looked digital? and what is wrong with that?? Why does everything have to look like 35mm in order to be considered good cinematography?
  13. shooting outside in natural light is my biggest fear of cinematography because its so friggin hard, but the results can look amazing if done right I give anathony dodd mantle huge credit for what he did. and if he shot in india on a 2k HD camera with no reflectors or silks then that just proves how good of a cinematographer he is...
  14. Hey For the yellow background I used Rosco Vittorio storraro Yellow gel, I bounced the light off the ceiling and flooded the background with it, I also had it behind the bar shooting up from the ground back lighting the smoke. The blue is a mix of Half CTB with cyan 15, which I had coming from down the stairs and behind the camera and from the right of the bar. The club also had some house lights, which I kept dimmed down and it just gave me some ambiance, as well as some other club lights. for an actual nightclub, there was very few club lights in the location? I also had a strobe unit attached to the dolly, which gave out blue light
  15. Well my latest demo reel is up. I update my reel every couple months, so alot of you may of already seen some of my stuff? But I like to keep it fresh, and I can use some feed back on this one? Overall I think its my best reel, but I think it does have some problems, so if you guys can watch it and lay it to me straight, then I'll try to see if I can improve it? or if its good? then great, saves me a lot of work ;) Thanks Visit My Website
  16. One roger deakins forum he explained that, he shot the first few weeks with out Kate winslet because Kate was finishing up a another film. then the production shut down until Kate winslet came on board.Roger deakins wasnt available and chris menges took over so roger deakins shot all the scenes with out kate winslet
  17. I like the stop motion, I think it makes the video unique, and it should give the audience the feeling of looking at a photograph. But I do wish we kept the camera locked off more, thats 1 thing Im not to happy with
  18. Yeah I agree I find it hard to believe shane was tweaking lights while the camera is rolling that doesnt make sense? Im hoping we hear shane or christain give a more accurate description on what happend soon?
  19. I wouldnt call that a hissy fit, he verbally assulted the poor guy,you should listen to the audio clip again no one deserves to be talked like that.
  20. Thanks I agree at times the camera was a little jerky, we did it on purpose, but I agree it was to much at times Also the floral designs on the wall, was a post decision I like it,but it would of been better if we did it in camera
