  1. All Epson projectors are three chip LCD based....there should be no strobing as could happen with one chip / colorwheel DLP based projectors. Color temperature will be "Daylight" balanced. LCD projectors have internal polarizer filters in the light path so like filters on the camera may create static or moving "patterns" in the projected image...
  2. David, the JAN specs where designed by the government with several manufacturers producing the machine. There where some modifications.....one by Ampro had a Gevena pull down sprocket run by a "drunken screw" cam ( like Norelco / Kinoton ). Them unit was rock steady with shutter drive and movement in a easily replaceable oil tank. This unit did not output as much light as the claw type drives and where more expensive to manufacture; so examples are rare. I worked at a T.V. station in the late 1960's where we had two of these chugging along reviewing prints for broadcast.
  3. For short film length you can build a roller tree with rollers mounted on a pegboard. There are 16mm looper disks which sit horizontal with a plate on the projector. Above the plate are pressure guide rollers to keep the loop from "walking up" from the endless loop film coil. The film loop sits very loose on the plate to allow the film to compensate as film is being pulled out of the plate from the inside edge of the coil while the film is taken up on the outside edge. These 16mm units can be modified to 8mm by changing a spacer to allow the pressure guide rollers to drop down to the film loop. Loopers are used by museums and art exhibits......I set up one a few weeks ago for Art Basel in Miami Beach.
  4. The late Erwin Harwood of N.C.E. took apart one of my K-3 and remarked the workmanship of the movement should had been at a value of $1500 - 2000.00 . He evaluated the viewfinder had insufficent room to display an off center mount required for S16mm.
  5. The classic 15/70 IMAX projector has stationary registration pins in the gate to create the same steadyness as Bell & Howell 2709 or ACME optical printer camera.8/70mm Kinoton projectors with electronic intermittent are also rock steady....simple laptop program to dial in the specs. I have followed print releases to Latin America and Asia and have seen better quality 35mm in use......projectionists are also more prone to be a staff position than a multiplex popcorn jockey....
