  1. Thanks, David, I found the paint you're refering to. I want it for an Arri SRII which I'm sure should be ok.
  2. David - did you use something like "Yamaha midnight black TOUCH UP PAINT r1 r6 fz1 fz6" which is what I found on eBay?
  3. Hi, One of the guide rollers in the SR magazine broke and I wanted to replace it. The guide roller sits on the swing-away arm that holds the film in place. There is a screw on the top but if I turn it, the whole thing turns. It looks as if I need to hold something in place before unscrewing it. Just wanted to check if the correct way to do this. Thanks Mohammed
  4. No worries, Dom. It just so happens I was tesing my SRII and I saw this happen. So, I did some searches and ended-up here and read the posts. I vagely remembered that it was supposed to stop when the battery hits this level. I thought I'd better double-check to make sure it isn't an issue and I'm gald to say it isn't. I hadn't used the battery for ages and I should have really charged it up before using. I don't let them run down like that. I hope the battery is ok now!:)
  5. When the battery goes below it's minimum - 8.5v dv - the camera may stop or run wild (this information is from Arri). I've seen it run wild as I have an SRII. I haven't seen it go faster pressing the test button. That could be a new issue. When the battery does reach this level, when I press the test button, it runs at the slow speed that it's supposed to. I hope that helps. Regards Mohammed
  6. Thanks, Adrian. What aspect ratio were you using with your 10mm lens? I believe it also matters if you are trying to shoot 1.85:1, 1.78:1, 1:66 etc.
  7. Thanks, Adrian. I just wonder if the 4x4 with 4x5.65 filters, will get me some more width. I should be OK then with 11.5mm and 4x4 filters?
  8. Thanks Adrian. I only have 3 filters at the moment. I need the 4x4 matte box because the 4x5 won't fit with the lightweight rods setup I have and that was the main reason for the change from the 4x5 to 4x4. Since I had the option of replacing the 4x5 trays with the 4x4, that's when I started to think about sticking with 4x4 filters and getting 4x4 trays because they're cheaper to pick up and there are a lot more of them around. With your 4x4, what's the widest you've shot without vignetting?
  9. Thanks, Hal. My problem is that the matte box is with Petroff in Canada which is where they are based. They want to know if I want the 4x5.65 trays or 4x4 trays before sending the whole thing back to me (they're exchanging the 4x5 matte box for a 4x4). I'm inclined to just stick with the 4x5.65 trays because I have the filters and I'm sure I won't have problems with the Zeiss S16 zoom I'm using. Otherwise, if I opt for the 4x4 trays, I'll have to offload the 4x5.65 filters, get some 4x4's and then as you say do some tests once it's been returned to me. Without any money is difficult to explore any of this! As I say this is for my use and I don't use anything beyond an 85 or some form of ND. When I get to shoot for real, then these things will be up to the DP. Many moons ago I was told that with 4x4 matte box/4x4 filters, I should be good to around 9mm but I understand now that was very generic advice!
  10. It's a 4x4 Petroff with two stages. The filters can either be 4x4 or 4x5.65. I use a Zeiss Zoom S16 11.5mm to 115mm lens. I wanted to know whether it would be ok with, say, a Ziess Distagon SuperSpeed at 9.5mm and perhaps even the Optar Illumina 8mm one. I've never gone beyond 11.5mm but then this was with a Petroff 4x5 and 4x5.65 filters. The Petroff 4x5 matte box is being changed to a 4x4 and there is a choice of 4x4 filter trays or 4x5.65 ones. I just wanted to see if the 4x4 matte box with 4x5.65 filters would be a better option than with 4x4 filters if attempting to use, say a 8mm or 9.5mm lens. I don't have the matte box or the wide lenses to test this. What I do know is that the Petroff 4x5 matte box does not fit well with an Arri SRII using lightweight rods - you need to use a base plate, dovetail etc. - hence the reason for the change to a 4x4 one. I have some 4x5.65 filters and I was thinking of selling those to get some 4x4 ones which seem to more plentiful and somewhat cheaper than the 4x5.65 ones. This is really for my own experiments and if on the off chance I happen to acquire a wider prime lens, the I just wanted to know roughly what the limits maybe. Thanks
  11. Hi, If I have a 4x4 matte box with 4x4 filters, what's the widest lens that I could use with it without having any vignetting? Is 8mm pushing it? I understand that lenses vary - I'm just trying to get a rough feel for it. If the 4x4 matte box could take 4x5.65 filters, would that be a better for a very wide lens? Thanks Mohammed
  12. Thanks everyone for the info. I believe the film has been refrigerated all it's life (from what I'm told). I don't have the film - it's something someone is selling and I was thinking of giving it a try. I sent the batch code to Kodak and they said it expired in 2006 - I'm not sure what that means now you've raised it.
  13. Hi, Is it worth trying KODAK VISION2 500T Expression 7229 that expired in 2006? Should it be clip tested? What rating would you use if you were to shoot with it? Thanks Mohammed
  14. As my 4 year old niece told me, with a cheeky smile, when asked why she liked school, her reply was, "Because I just do!":)
  15. I've got a matte box that uses a rubber bellows that squeaks when I turn the focus ring of the zoom lens. Can I lubricate the bellows, and if so, what is the best/safest substance to use? Thanks Mohammed
  16. I got in touch with the transfer place and they let me know that they did have a problems with the 16mm gate at the time when they scanned the neg. They said it's all fixed now and they were prepared to re-scan the neg free of charge. I asked if they would take the latest footage that I shoot, process it and scan it to DPX instead of re-scanning the original neg (which was badly underexposed and not worth re-scanning) - they said yes! The latest exposed footage has been sent - just waiting to see what I get back. I think they were very good in the end considering the problem was with footage from 2009. Thanks to all that helped.
  17. Thanks Will. What about the actual movement of the frame when it movs up/down? That again seems like a problem that occured with telecine.
  18. Thanks for the reply Vincent. It was really badly underexposed footage - this was one shot that I kind of turned around a little with some colour correction, although it was still badly unexposed. The other footage was out by a mile. As for the transfer, it was done on a Cintel diTTo Scanner. I don't know anything about this scanner, perhaps others can comment.
  19. Has anyone got some 16mm 1R footage, 200T preferably, that I could take off your hands for some tests on an Arri SRII? If you have anything left over from a shoot that you want to offload, please let me know. Thanks Mohammed
  20. PS. For some reason a '.' appears at the end if the URL - just remove it after you've clicked the link and gone into Vimeo.
  21. This was shot on Super 16mm a couple of years ago and kind of got forgotten before I resurrected it a week ago only to find that the picture was actually jumping every now and again. If someone could please cast their expert eye over it, I would appreciate it: http://vimeo.com/18582288 Thanks Mohammed
  22. I was wondering what is the best way of doing this. I've taken a 100ft roll on a daylight spool and put that on the feed side because that's how the film arrived. I've then put a daylight spool on the takeup side too. It made it easier to take the spool out, put it back in its original packaging and send it to the lab. Is this not a good way of doing this? Thanks Mohammed
  23. Hi, If I use a 85ND0.3 combination filter, is the total light loss: 2/3rd stop (85) + 1 stop (0.3ND)? Is this true of any combination of filters or should i really go to the manufacturer to get the actual light loss? In this example, I'm thinking about a Tiffen 4x5.65 85ND0.3. Thanks Mohammed
