  1. Hello, Does anyone have any experience cleaning the gate of a Braun Nizo. I'm specifically working with the Nizo s800 so back loaded cartridge, and a little hard to even reach down towards the gate. Any specific tools used or thoughts on how to get down there and try to clean? As shown in the below pic, I am trying to clear that hair in lower right of screen. I guess I can live with it there in the corner if I have to, but would hate to try blowing canned air to find out after shooting some crucial footage that I pushed it more to center of frame. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, Chris
  2. Thank you. Both the processing and telecine (to mini dv tape) were done at Spectra in Los Angeles.
  3. If anyone is interested, I posted a clip of some super 8 footage that I shot for a few of my recent documentary film projects. I welcome any critique or criticism... http://www.vimeo.com/3279683
  4. I have a run and gun night shoot with my nikon r10 fast approaching. Does anyone ever use those vintage movie lights that slide into the top of S8 cameras? Are there any that run off battery? (cant really plug in) Also how about a hot shoe LED light - how would that work if I needed to throw some light on a subject and film super 8? Thanks for any insight...
  5. I only have the German manual for my Nizo s800. Can anyone run through the setup for a time-lapse shot with this camera for me? What are the different notches on the time-lapse knob? What frame rate do i leave the camera on when using the built in time-lapse? Thanks for any help
  6. Just saw this for auction on ebay. A slide copy adapter for Nikon super 8 camera. Anyone ever used anything like this for super 8? Whats the deal? Thanks.
  7. I have previously bashed pac lab but I think they have completely turned their super 8 business around. I'm pretty sure that they have upgraded their equipment since I stopped using them a few years ago. Just yesterday I saw 15 rolls of various stocks that I had shot for a recent job that was telecined to beta - It looked fantastic.
  8. Avoid PAC lab at all costs. Went there out of convenience a handful of times a few years back. Dont know about the others because I started sending my stuff out to Spectra and never looked back.
  9. Thanks for the help! The quarter was a great idea.
  10. With my previous cameras, I never relied on the built in daylight/artificial filter and used a screw on. Does anyone have any experience doing this with the nikons? It seems mildly annoying to keep that displacing key hanging out an inch or so on the top at all times. any thoughts? Also to be fair, i have not developed any test rolls and don't really know yet the integrity of the built in filter in my nikon...
  11. Hey, hoping someone could help me break down the concept of using an external intervalometer with super 8 cameras. In this pic, what equipment is there? I understand the actual piece, but what about the cable that goes into (and seemingly replaces) the trigger? Sorry if this is novice or mundane, but it is incredibley fascinating to me. Thanks
  12. There is a "hair" in the gate of my nizo s800. how does one go about cleaning this. with the s800 it seems difficult to get down passed where the cartridge goes and work with the gate... any tips? and what material should i use to accomplish this? the hair is noticeable in the lower right hand corner of my footage. Recently I have been zooming in slightly to see passed this, but I would love to clean it up. THanks in advance for any help.
  13. An ebay auction for a fully tested "mint" nikon R10 with a 90 day warranty disappeared in a flash with a buy-it-now price of $499. Literally sold within an hour. I am somewhat sorry I didn't jump on it, to be honest.
  14. Thanks for the help.... This has taken an interesting turn. I was wondering if people would like to chime in on what they have paid and/or what they feel the "RIGHT" price for a certain camera should be. Nikon/nizo/canon/Leicina etc etc. I think I paid around 200-250 on ebay for my nizo s800 about 7 years ago. It just died - which is why i asked the initial question.
  15. I inherited my first camera and purchased the next two on ebay. My question is... are there any other viable outlets other than ebay to acquire super 8 cameras?
  16. does anyone have any SPECIFIC experience with their Nizos breaking down? My s800 just began making a terrible screetching noise on the last roll (as the film passed through). Then seemed to worsen and would sound like the motor was constantly running every time it was in the on position. And I could tell no film was making its way through. I pretty much figured it for dead but went back to show someone the deal and it now seems to run fine again. I was in freezing chicago weather when it crapped out. Could this be the answer? I don't yet have a roll to try again so i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I appreciate it. Chris
  17. Thanks all for the help. I greatly appreciate it.
  18. I flew to park city last week and airport security tried desperately to make me put my 6 new rolls of film through the xray. when i asked them to just hand inspect them like i've had done before, they tore into every single roll. How long will new film last with the foil packaging opened? Also i did send my camera through xray with a roll of plus x inside by accident. any chance it survived? Any thoughts? thanks for the help
  19. Hey I am very new to shooting on super 8 and was wondering if anyone has experience pushing or pulling when processing their film. Does it compromise the picture at all? I am wondering because I just shot some rolls and some scenes were filmed with 500t, 200t and 64t with the fstop wide open at 1.8 and I'm still worried about the minimal light. thanks for the help.
  20. Does anyone have any thoughts on shooting outdoors in gray/gloomy conditions. I'm wondering specifically about using 64t, but are there any generalities? Is an 85 filter necessary with tungsten film even when there isn't much sunlight prevalent? Thanks for the help.
  21. Some beginner help please... I am about to shoot some tests with 200t. The conclusion I have drawn from this forum is that my nizo s800 will not correctly read this ASA. If that is the case, once I have my meter reading, do I compensate this by overexposing? Any thoughts on how many stops? Thank you and please let me know if I am way off.
  22. I am interested in Shooting some Velvia as well. Could you explain its "narrow exposure latitude" ? Thank You.
  23. Was hoping someone could help me out with the difference between 18 and 24FPS. Whay is 18 frames per second the "normal" rate. I am working with the Nizo s800. Thank you sorry...just searched the forum and found the answers.
  24. I am interested in your Kodachrome. let me know if it is still available. I am located in CT. cbuddy2@gmail.com thanks
