  1. Who else on this forum is addicted to making extreme extreme sports movies? Its what I love the most in film making, and I wondered if anyone else shares my passion...? Later, Yours in extreme sports cinematography, Dory
  2. My process: Capture shots via Premiere Pro. Film faking/film motion conversion in Premiere. Export to new clips to proper folders. Burn Master Clips to DVD for safe keeping. Import clips into Premiere. Make cuts and apply speed/time effects. Apply other effects such as strobe or style FX. Add titles/credits. Export to compressed AVI for Internet distribution. Render in Premiere and author DVD for TV station. Export full quality AVI for Encore. Create menus, chapters etc. in Encore. Author master DVD. There ya go :).
  3. Lighting my friend, LIGHTING! And if you are shooting in an uncontrollable lighting enviornment (like I almost ALWYAS do), look into something along the lines of CineLook2. My 2 cents.
  4. I am looking into purchasing one for next years Volume of Extreme Sports Diaries (Volume 2). Looks killer, and a aqquantance of mine has one, so I am going to try to hook up with him and check it out.
  5. ^^ Yea my dad used to work at Snowbird, and were gonna hit both places, but probobly only film Alta, and maybe a little park action at snowbird.
  6. Too bad were stuck with a CanonGL1 for shooting it :(:(. It'll look kinda bad on video. But it'll still be SOOOOO AWESOME!
  7. Haha, funny you should mention that, he's my biggest influance. Ok I'll change my name .
  8. Check out where we get to shoot! (Ok it isnt a set, but it is still amazing) First winter shoot, Alta, UT This is possibly my favorite picture from the alta site ;) 2nd Winter shhot, Sugar Bowl, Tahoe Were going to do more tahoe shoots but we dont know where yet. Has anyone else ever shot extreme sking/snowboarding? Share your experances. Its my favtype of cinematogrophy!
  9. That system should edit HD and DV fine, but you will quickly want a fatter (bigger) HardDrive. I have 2 80 gig drives and it is nowhere NEAR enough. Look into a 80 gig system drive (for the OS, programs etc) and like a 200+ gig drive for media.
  10. Thanks all who awnsered:)! We decided (for cost and time reasons mostly) that we will stick with DV this time. Next year we will go to film.
  11. Ok, HERE is our situation: We make ski/snowboard videos. I'd say movie/film but thats incorrect . We LOVE what we do, and have aqquired a great amount of tallent throughout all our experances. We realy want to move on from the Canon GL1s we have been using from our local TV station, mainly because video and snow dont mix. Unfortunetly, we have NO way to pay for any more then two cameras (Krasnogorsk-3), two light meeters and two tripods. I need some advice on getting other people to pay for the film stock and procesing. If any one has any advice for us, or would like to help us out, PLEASE post back here. Thanks so much, Dory
  12. Hey... I would have posted that in the 16mm forum, but this is more specific to the stock, so... Anywhoo. We shoot ski and snowboarding, and I'd like to know how well the KODAK VISION2 50D 7201 would work for this application. I can get the short ends for $0.19 a foot. What are short ends exactly? would it be more worth it to get the same stock but in the 100 foot rolls? Thanks, Dory
  13. Can i see some example out door footage from the DVX in 24p? Thanks much, Dory
  14. A quick question: At 24fps, how many minutes will 100 feet of 16mm be?
  15. Hello everyone. I come from a DV world of 29.27, inetrlacing and bad slo mo (to name a few things). I'd like to make the conversion over to 16mm, and have been looking at the Krasnogorsk-3 to get started with 16mm extreme sports (skiing, snowboarding, downhill mountain biking etc) documentries. I have many questions, some of wich may sound silly, but comming from a DV backround... well you know DV :). First, how are exposure and focus handled? I would assume that you cannot just look through the view finder and spin a knob/wheel. Can you view the zoomed immage in the view finder? With DV cameras what you see is what you get, so you can see the ned immage in the VF. Is there any where that I can buy film for cheaper (that means less money, not quality) then $50 for 100ft??? That seems like so much just for a few minutes of footage, even less when shooting slo mo. On avrage how much does developing it cost? Is there any alternitive to telecine? Something much less expensive? Maybe some of those old "Convert you're old film memories to DVD or DV" services? Thanks for bothering with this! :D :) Dory
