  1. Personally I find the quality of the images from say an older Rank MkIII very Super8ish - 70's, mushy looking as well, no matter how hard you get the colourist to work the dials it still looks like mushy 70's crap, you have to remember a lot of the Ranks kicking around nowadays have been in service for a long time, hence some are maybe not running to a decent spec plus is pretty old technology I have been told my numerous colourists. Recently the past three times I have had S16 rushes telecine to video, the machine was down or playing up, the same footage I had telecined on a Spirit it did not compare at all to the Rank MkIII, a more "cleaner" transfer. Cheers Sean
  2. mmmm...I wish my Konvas looked like a Millennium! B) Konvas - http://www.geocities.com/kinor35/konvas-2m...-2M-kit-big.jpg Millennium- http://www.panavision.com/publish/2004/07/08/xlstudio.jpg ...blame the milkman.. :P haha Cheers Sean
  3. Hi Nathan, I would consider using 4pin XLR canon plugs, around 10 bucks each these are widely used for broadcast video and film applications. Jaycar Electronics in Sydney can sell you the 12V SLA batteries, chargers and plugs for your monitor. Cheers Sean
  4. Richard, Maybe I am missing something, but my Konvas 2M looks nothing like a Panavision!. Cheers Sean
  5. Hi, Sometimes you can find 16mm cameras for sale on this site. http://www.broadcast-trader.com.au/site/fo.../categories.php Cheers Sean
  6. Rich, Each to their own!. I am happy that you have found a way to produce better pic's with a DVX, good for you! I usually shoot with my Thomson LDK, 1657D 16x9 heads, but I don't mind the DSR500 for lower budget work. Its quiet a nice camera with a decent layout and no fiddly buttons to press, maybe a bit too much plastic but nevertheless. I use both camera's DVX, DSR quiet a lot and always find the DSR500 to have a more "smoother look" less "handycamish" look, of course it depends a fair amount on the glass you have attached, how you have the pic setup etc..and what type of camera you are comparing it to. Plus id like to add neither camera looks like film!. only great looking - superb video! Cheers Sean Morris
  7. Hi, Id stay with the DSR500 bigger chips, better lens options, better electronics etc.. and a far more superior cam than the DVX. Cheers Sean
  8. Uh? Well maybe I am missing something, because to my eyes it looked like low quality 1/3inch 3CCD consumer "MiniDV look" blown up to 35mm, I understand this was the prefered look, but I cannot see how you can compare it to the "look" of 35mm film, even digibeta blown up to 35mm still looks like video, but way better than any XL1.!!! Yeah so what? Some kids also think McDonalds is healthy and good for you too! Cheers Sean Morris
  9. Hi, Looks like video :) Cheers Sean
  10. Hi Dan, Sorry I find it hard to understand your website. I take it you mounted a Still Camera lens on what looks like a Sony BVP-7? any more details?
  11. Your have to be joking right... 28 Days Later??? I thought it looked mushy as hell, clipped, washy, and hard to watch at times, it actually gave me a spitting headache..! Cheers Sean Morris
  12. Matt, The 2M, as always remember "caveat emptor" Buyer's Beware esp when it comes to Ebay!... I have purchased a fair amount of russian cameras and lenses from Ebay with no problems, Kinors 16/35's and Konvas gear, only so far had one camera requiring a re-build, and all sorts of mess with the camera to be fixed up by a camera tech. And I was told it was tuned in a specialized film studio by the seller!. you can find some awesome info at: http://www.commiecam.com/ Cheers Sean Morris
  13. Hi, I agree with Richard, Olexandr is a great guy for sales, parts and top quality repairs. No, all the Konvas are quiet noisy, like a food blender on low, some people have tried making blimps etc.. But this is really just a MOS camera and designed for MOS applications only. The Kinor 35 is a different story, syc-sound but way larger in size than the Konvas and costs more do$h.. a lot more. Cheers Sean Morris

    kinor help

Hi Alex, The "little lever clip" you mention near the trigger is to make the mirror return to normal position. What sort of battery do you have hooked up to the connection? Do you have access to a multimeter to test the connections on the lead and the fuse? The Kinor is a very easy camera to load and operate if you need any other questions feel free to ask. Cheers Sean.
  15. Hi, I have found Rafael (rafcamera) and Serhiy (sp314) to be honest and trustworthy gents. Cheers Sean Morris
  16. Matt, A lot of the "older" analogue cards have very limited suport for the new OS's like Win2000, XP, so if you considering purchasing a second hand card i'd check the driver support first on the web, rather than having to install a old copy of Win98!.. Another option you could buy a S'VHS machine and then copy the footage across to your mini DV deck / camera? Cheers Sean Morris

    help with kinor

Hi Alex, I had my Kinor 16 converted to S16 and PL mounted by Les Bosher so I would suggest you contact Les for a price and information. Also the "Smartgroup's Konvas Discussion forum" is a good source of Information on mod's, conversions and general question regarding Russian Motion Picture Cameras. http://www.commiecam.com/ Commiecam is also a excellent source of information and links. Cheers Sean Morris.

    Is Kinor 16 loud?

No, Very quiet, I own two and never had any problems with sound. Cheers Sean Morris
  19. It is the size of CCD's in pro-sumer cameras that is the main drawback. I mean honestly how can someone expect an awesome looking image from a 1/3 3CCD Camera. All this hype I read in magazines etc..on how a DVX100A, XL1, PD150 etc.. can "look" like 35mm footage, is a total load of crap. Sorry guys but thats my 2cents worth. ;) Cheers Sean Morris
  20. Yes, the adobe after effects & premiere "usher plugin" :) Cheers Sean Morris
  21. Hi, Well I don't think you will get anywhere near the quality of an usher music video shooting on video, on a consumer digital quality camera, no matter how much you spend on lighting..in the end a XL1 or whatever just won't cut it.... it will still look like video, but maybe good video! Most of public television stuff I have seen is usually shot on low quality 1CCD older style domestic camcorders with no studio style lighting used, plus really bad sound (muffled voices) run along with the visuals. Hence a poor looking video image with crappy sound. The big corporate television studios most of the time do use professional equipment such as Digibeta, BetaSX, 3CCD highend broadcast camera's and skilled operators etc..that's why the visuals look that much better Of course it's unfair to compare the vision from a 60K Digital Beta Camera with top glass worth 20K against say a XL1, the XL1 will never look as good as the Digi-Beta period..! I think in the end you can get a "pleasing image" with consumer gear, with good lighting, patience and a bit of tweaking with the manual settings on the camera. I just would not be expecting to imagine that you can have the "glossy britney spears look or the usher look" from consumer or pro-sumer gear. Cheers Sean Morris.
  22. Hi Anthony, I had my Kinor converted to PL Mount and S16 by Les Bosher in the UK who did an amazing job, and at a very good price. Drop him an email, I am sure you will be happy with his conversion. I have used the camera so far on a few projects without any troubles at all...! The good points with the Kinor is the camera is very lightweight and easy to handhold. Cheers Sean Morris
  23. That would be the DSR-1 DVCAM back (digital) , instead of the PVV-3 back (analogue) Cheers Sean
  24. I would go with the D30, better quality glass is possible and larger CCD's or even rent a Digi-Beta rig if funds allow. Cheers Sean Morris
  25. The Kinor lens covers the super 16 frame from 50-100mm below 50 it vignettes.. For the money ( it usually sells for around US $100.00ish )I dont think you could get a better deal on a zoom lens! No, I only have BetacamSP (PAL) raw telecine footage shot with the Kinor lens. I could email you some screen grabs. Cheers Sean
