  1. The VNF films are old old film technology. anything new would be an improvement.
  2. I heard it at shooting 8mm. the info came out of Kodak Europe apparently. whatever the case, I hope they decide to do it.. seems to be well anticipated. Folks seem pretty hungry for a new color reversal. I'd be happy to feed my S-8 cameras some 100D.
  3. K-40 will give you the best colors when it is well exposed. objects lit by a sunny day with the sun behind you for example. If your cameras light meter is accurate, its best to use that f-stop. K-40 has short latatude compared to most newer films, but still a lot more latatude than minDV. still avoid too much bright background in the frame.
  4. Thats the word on the street, it will be by May.. I have about 400ft in 16mm ready too shoot. can't wait that long!!
  5. That would be a smart move. without reversals, the current cost of telecine is enough to discourage many curious would be newbies that will opt for video only because film is out of their reach.
  6. I want to shoot one or both of these films in 16mm. overcast afternoon, going past store fronts. my only daylight neg shooting has been with 200T filtered. any strong points or weeknesses on the 50 & 250D?
  7. Right.. I shoot Super 8 because i'm paying for it. shooting it where ever, how ever and when ever i want. I'm just starting to get into 16mm, just out for curiosity and fun.. and with my calculations so far, it will be 3 times more expensive to shoot 16mm then the same amount of running time in S8. 10 minutes of reversal, telecine not included reads like this.. K-40 S8: 4 carts processed at Dwayne's= $80 roughly. 100D 16mm: 400ft of stock and processing at $.25 per foot= $240. If i ever get paid, or expect a big return.. I'd do it with 16mm. Super 8 is cheaper, its good experience, and a lot of fun.
  8. Canon is my favorite. the Nizo and Bauer are well noted common and easy to find models as well. when shopping ebay, try and stick with cameras that are tested and assured to work. anyone who states "I know nothing of this camera sold as is" means "doesn't work". the rest is dependant on your budget. you can find a decent model with all the features for $150-$500. many cheaper cameras are usually found in attics or what not and are a gamble.
  9. I use Dwayne's direct all the time with excellent results on their part. with Fed Ex.. ship Mon back by Thur. I also always get the free prep with films cleaned, spooled, on 200 or 400ft reel with 12 ft head and tail leaders. they are just as good or better than non K-40 labs i deal with.
  10. Has anyone shot and projected this film? I ordered 400ft today as to pop my cherry in 16mm. plan to load it onto 100ft spools and shoot it on an R16. I can pick up a really nice 16mm projector from the thrift shop down the street for $50. I'm sooo excited :D
  11. If your just testing the waters with film, you can shoot tons of Super 8 for less than $500. really perfect your skills working with film. it looks good too. Or, regular 16mm is not too expensive. you can still shoot reversals to practice and see your results without paying for telecine. I personally would not invest in a S16 package unless i was getting paid.. and if i'm getting paid than I have to be good too.
  12. Thank You David. I got a 3 piece 1250W kit. can't wait to experiment with tungston lighting, till now its all been daylight or stage light. I won't need any correction, but does anyone know of gels i can look into to creat different looks?
  13. I'm looking to pick up a light kit for some indoor shooting on Super 8. I want to use 200T and TriX 160T. I Don't have any experience adding light, but want to be able to light subjects, ect.. mainly close shots. want to get a good exposure on 200T with tight grain, but without harsh light. not looking to spend a whole lot, but will something like this do the trick? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...3852319677&rd=1 appreciate any helpful advice
  14. Are these obsolete now? do they use 200ft daylight spools that can be loaded in a dark room from 400ft spools?
  15. Wherever the mailers go, I feel more comfortable sending Dwayne's direct. I haven't had any poor work done by either route.. but the mailers just cause my films to endure too much of a journey.. so far leading to chewed envelopes and missing films. not worth risking if you spent a lot of time on your work.
  16. Dwayne's Prep is free. when selected your films are spooled onto 200ft reels, with 12 foot leaders at the head and tail. the mailers, you have no prep option.. they usually come back individually, or 2 together, one a week later ect..
  17. I didn't say it's cheaper at Dwayne's. the mailers were $3.50 last I used them, Dwayne's is $9.00 per cart.. so about $5.50 extra, well worth it based on my experiences. 14 day turn would be at best for me with mailer. sometimes 3 weeks, and twice i recieved envelopes mauled to pieces with no films at all. granted, most of this has to do with poor packaging and postal mishandling. Dwayne's is no nonsense, 4-5 days, nice prep and packaging.. the way i want my work to come back.
  18. Most folks never sent their mailers to Switzerland. but to Fair Lawn, NJ where the turnaround was about 2 weeks. Fair Lawn is supposedly closed now, so maybe Maryland is the new secret location. it was always assumed that k-40 went to Dwayne's from Fair Lawn. anyway, the mailer is discontinued and only offered till they are sold out. I prefer paying the extra $5.50 per cart and send straight to dwayne's anyway. can have films back in 4-5 days, prepped for telecine on 200ft spools with long leaders. the mailer route took forever and your carts would show up one at a time in beat up envelopes.
  19. I don't own a 310XL, but will bet it's a great lense. I have the Canon 512XL, and the 814XL-S, and the 1014E. have to say the 512XL (1.2 lense, 220 shutter) brings out the best colors on overcast days with K-40. The 310XL will give even more exposure. portability is key too. the 512 was my first camera and i still use it.
  20. E-6 is very clean and can be processed at home  I'd also imagine 100D to be quite popular in S-8, so labs may have an interest. its an amazing looking film. And from what i gather.. you could load, shoot, process, and telecine S-8 E6 reversal without even leaving the house.
  21. I would rather see V2 100T before 250D and 100D before 100T
  22. Sounds like Kodak is considering releasing Ektachrome 100D in Super 8. I think it would be a big hit, a prime choice for daylight shooting and projecting.. much more so than the 7240.
  23. Would it be possible to take a 400ft spool, cut and load it onto 100ft daylight spools? there is a unused darkroom at my work i can use.
  24. I just recieved 4 K-40 rolls back from Dwayne's yesterday and they were perfect. the blue streaks were common a few months back.. static from a batch of carts was one theory. the problem has since dissappeared. you may have used carts from that problemed group.
  25. It's surprising that 7285 isn't more readily packaged to suit cameras in the independant budget class.. especially since it's a reversal. I see all the negs are available in 100ft, thats great but even with experience shooting negs in S-8.. I would not dare too experiment with a new format and equipment under the cost of telecine. Anyone here shoot 100D Ekta? or projecting it as well?
