  1. Thank you belatedly for the birthday wishes. It only took me 6 years to read it but it is appreciated. When I was only 15 I wasn't allowed to surf the net very often. Now that I am almost 21 I can spend a lot more time lost in the ether. Roberto Schaefer I can almost drink legally in New Orleans....
  2. For a classic but really well shot documentary cinematography that is beautiful in it's own right look at "Waiting For Superman" as well as "The September Issue".
  3. Just as sad is the fact that Mr. Fiore didn't bother to thank Vince Pace, the DP really responsible for most of the innovation and image capture of the film along with Cameron.
  4. " I have a requirement to put a 35mm camera on a remote control helicopter for fly by and low altitude aerial work. Weight limit is 3.5kg-4Kg(max) for full config." I own a super lightweight 35mm camera that was made specifically for a remote control helicopter by an Italian manufacturer who specializes in them. He built it for me from carbon fiber and kevlar. It will carry a 500' load and still weighs under 3 kg. It has a B/W video tap and runs on AA batteries, crystal synch from 4-48 fps in 1/10th frame increments. BUT, it is not under $4G. The camera is for sale complete with 2- 500' mags and 2- 1000' mags, cases and everything for $20,000. That is 50% of the original cost. Please contact me off list if you want more info and pictures. 5. This is probably too late for anyone to be reading but here I go. The answers are that the VFX would take longer to render out "good" in anamorphic as opposed to spherical. Time = money and we are seemingly short on both, especially time. We wrap principal mid-june and the film has worldwide release by nov 6, UK on oct 31!! The answer to the question about 3-perf vs. 4-perf is that yes, for stuntwork but also 2nd and 3rd unit work, I like to have the option to reframe in the DI stage where possible. I don't concern myself so much on 1st unit since I am there and keep it within the realm of 1.78 which is still on the 3-perf negative. R.Schaefer, asc
  6. I did use a zoom along with the Primos. Panavisions terrible little rehoused Canon lightweight zoom. I think it is 28-64mm, t 2.6. The good thing was that I didn't need to use Classic Soft filters on it to match the Primos with the filters! I was hoping to get their new LWZ, but it wasn't available. I am an ARRI guy. I love the choices available- Angenieux Optimo zooms, Arri Master Primes, Cooke S4's, etc. AND, I love the Arri cameras. As an operator and DP. I will try the D20 next Digital job because of the optical viewfinder. And if the slow relative ASA rating is true, it might be closer to what I got on the Genesis when I really needed the speed!
  7. I recently shot a pilot with the Genesis and ended up almost exclusively at 360 deg shutter. I found that the camera was giving me a relative ASA of 200 when I was at T2.4. I needed the extra stop from the shutter in order to get my exposure. I have heard varying opinions and wonder where you stand on this. I was told that the sensor is rated at 2.8 so anything open from that would change your effective ASA rating. Do you know anything about this? I din't notice any odd blur effects from the 360 shutter and didn't have any other negative artifacts like strobing. And it didn't seem to add to a video feel. I also used Classic Soft filters on all the Primo lenses to help the film look. Roberto Schaefer, ASC
  8. I am selling my personal Kino-Flo Kamio ringlight. It is caslled the Kamio 6 2-stage travel kit with hard case. It includes adapters for Coke S4 lenses and 1 or 2 others. It has everything as original, plus 3 spare 3200k lamps and 3 spare 5500k lamps. It is in perfect condition and was used on 1 feature and several commercials. My asking price is $1200.
