  1. What size tripod screw am I looking for to fit a Krasnogorsk-3? I'm so confused about tripod sizes. Would it be 1/4"?
  2. Maybe less than that. You might go ADR. You could process/telecine it to a digital format that you can handle for editing, bring your actors in, and have them record their dialogue over the footage. Depends on how picky you want to be... In the very least, spend a couple hundred on a digital portastudio (like a tascam or bose) and shoot the scene, stop, and record the dialogue NUMEROUS times--hoping to get a good match. It can be done. GO K-3!!!
  3. In studying about 35mm film, I've seen people mention different perfs for it. COuld anyone explain why this is so and the importance of understanding it?
  4. Hi there. I'm new to all of this old school film editing and would like help. I've been reading about these "moviolas" and stuff about benches, tables, etc etc. Where could I find how information on how these things look? What kind of equipment (cheap) would I need to get to edit my film?
  5. Ah ha! So, I take it, I need the correct VTR (?) to play these tape formats? How would you rate the quality of these formats? --or does HD always stay 1080... Thank you so much for helping, David. On the side: I really appreciate credible professionals helping us students. Anyways, thanks!
  6. Hello. I'm telecine'ing a s16 film to a digital format that I want to edit on my computer. After I'm done editing I want to export this final-cut film to a digital format that labs can take and put onto HDCAM without losing any quality. What format (avi, mpeg, etc.) would I ask the lab to transfer to so that I can keep HD quality (1.9k) throughout the workflow process.? P.S.: I found a lab that can telecine to what they call DataDisks and D1, D2. I'm kind of new to all of this. Can anyone explain the formats for Telecine to me?
  7. I opened this topic so that we might post the post houses with the best deals and provide hookups for our fellow DPs and Directors. Let's get together and post the best posthouses (USA, UK, anywhere!) To start: South EAST/ GEORGIA Posthouse.com Processing for super 16mm: Around $.12/foot Transfer: Video/Data $185 with 1-2 day turnaround. Expect another $60-100 for transfers to minidv, DVD, D1, etc. Pretty good deals for transfer customers.
  8. Good evening, Diego. I have sent a message to your account. When you get a chance, please check it out. Thanks.
  9. I understand that there is a meter on the K-3 that goes up to 250, or something of the like. That's just for the light meter, correct? If you have a handheld meter, then the meter that adjusts the film speed doesn't mean anything, right? Thanks!
  10. If I have a super-16 k-3 and use a 35mm lens (like a Pentax Super-T, etc) will the image I see in the viewfinder be the image I get?? THanks for helping me in this confusion. :(
  11. Sweet. I see how lower end editing software doesn't produce EDL's. Might there be an alternative, or should I invest in better software? My plans are to end in HDcam, but...have a digital copy of high enough quality to transfer filmout when money does decide to come in. :) Side question: I understand 2k scanning, HD quality, and so on and so forth, but what does the "p" stand for after 1080p and/or 24p?
  12. Thank you, that clears a lot of things up for me. One more question: How does one go about making an EDL? Is it just some timecodes with the shots I want to keep? Does it matter with formatting at all? I understand that their are certain formats to things in the film industry (screenplays, aspect ratios, etc) that are pretty defined, but what about this? Thank you so much!
  13. I'm evidently a newbie. I'm shooting a short (50 minutes) on super 16 and I am planning on getting the negative processed and telecine'd so that I can edit digitally. Now...What format should I telecine it to if I plan on transferring the finished product to HDcam? Could someone explain to me what HDcam exactly is? Is it a tape format? DVD? Sorry. I'm new. I need help. Thanks.
  14. I am about as green and new to this as it gets. I need some professional heads up. I've been more of an actor than anything for the last 5 years (17 shows, 4 movies, 1 TV) and I've found myself in directing for film lately. I need some professional advice. I've noticed that in acting, green actors are good because they haven't developed any bad habits that you'll have to break them of way down the line. I'm hoping to prevent anything of the sort from happening in my film directing (and cinematography). SOoooo.....I need some advance advice from people in the business of making films and earn a decent wage from doing so. [i'm not knocking anyone who is very talented, but doesn't do paid gigs]. Being an actor, I understand that this is a business. Business (sometimes, unfortunately) means money. Anyway, I type too much. Here's my stuff. Rip me apart and teach me! :) www.youtube.com/agentJJ22
  15. For the "film look," you have to use film. Video will look like video; however, the guys are right. You need to define what it is exactly about film that you like. What part of the "look?" I'm working with both 16mm and video now days and I've come to find (in my amateur experience so far) that the majority of it is in lighting. Check out some of my short videos: www.youtube.com/agentJJ22 I'm not an expert, and it doesn't look like film. But play around with lighting, and it might look a little more professional. P.S.: Any professionals reading this: If I am wrong, please correct me! Thanks!
  16. How are matte box sizes measured? The size of the lens mount (like the K-3's M42?)? Where could I get them for the Krasnogorsk?? THanks!
  17. I have been up and down these posts and I think we need someone (who knows with no doubt) how to modify the 16mm gate on a K-3 to super 16. I've gotten so confused about what to "file" here and that the lens must be moved. Please Help, guys!! Us newbies need a good how-to instructions. Thanks!
  18. I'm wishing to upgrade a Krasnogorsk-3 with a crystal sync motor. I have yet to purchase any such motor and I need help on what type (Tobin??) and how to install such a motor on the K-3. I understand the absurdity of the "sewing Machine" and sound sync, but I'm ADVENTUROUS! Eh? Any takers?
