  1. I have had moderate success shooting the DVX and have thought about investing in a SDX900; but I fear that cameras are becoming like computers, by the time you get it out of the box there's a better one available. Is there an educated demand for the SDX900 or are you competeing with DigiBeta/HD/DVX???? Thanks for any insight...
  2. A friend of mine just bought a Konvas 35mm package and Ive been moving this milk crate of ten year old 35mm film around for a couple years. Im giving him 4 recans 160' of 5298 180' of 5293 200' of 5293 (200t) 200' of 5231 I just included that info incase you know something I dont (thats not hard) Is it worth processing??? Im giving it to him so he can run some celluloid for kicks but if its still possible that its good then maybe we'll put something together like a music video... The film was recovered from a local film resource non profit type. So I guess its not been handled to badly before I shoved it in my basement. I think it spent a summer in the attic now that i think about it...
  3. shoot dvx-100 find a dp that you groove with and tell us how it went. you should really appreciate this string its out of control; i just hope i get this response when i need it; this website is really something.
  4. The way ebay charges for listings is a function of (starting price, resereve price and to the smallest extent sale price) so its smart to start bidding as low as possible if your counting coins. Hey maybe those coins add up...
  5. One day, hopefully in my lifetime, the world will stop producing men with your mentality. Though I doubt it.
  6. Wanna make a movie and dont understand lighting hire a gaffer. There are alot of electrics out there waiting, pineing, for an oppourtunity. Place a post on your local craigslist.org (on the tv/film/video), mandy.com or your local film group. You say youve been in some flicks then you know at least that it not simple so get someone involved in your project with a vision and hopefully some gear... Shoot your film with "available light" and your sure to wind up hating it. No budget, save some dough your going to need it you can get great people to work for free but they darn sure need to eat and well. Good luck with your project...
  7. I hate the gl1 it looks so amatuer. You may try to sell the dvx on a larger chip size better audio characteristics (xlr) and then flip the switch to f5 just before you start and give him a last chance to see the error of his ways. that being said im shooting an industrial type thing next month and im tempted to shoot 30p or 60i b/c I worry about the lighting (having not done a loc scout). Also I think they want something crisp and clean, i would call the dvx in 24p that, though its been making my career...
  8. I found this clip from another forum. It is said to be shot on the fx1 w/ ps technik and zeiss prime lenses (not sure which ones) in South Africa for a German Band. Enjoy http://www.hmanvisions.com/videos/fettesbrot.mov
  9. Thanks for the feedback its 60i is amazing but I have shot maybe 3hrs of 60i on my dvx; 24p gotta have it. Apart from that the HVR is amazing...

    Microphones?

I bought an Azden and its pretty good.....I wish Id bought a sennheiser ohh that $100 difference is PRICELESS..
  12. My DVX100p is getting pretty beat up so Im looking into other options. Right now my main need for a camera is shooting narrative fiction film. Im building my skill, reel, etc. But Im willing to rent it out for other stuff...Thanks for any advice or opinions from people who have actually used it; Ive read $5000 worth of reviews and the like. Also Ive gotten a peak at the camera side by side with a Sony Beta SP, Sony F900, Dvx100a and HVR-Z1.
  13. I had a similar experience this past weekend (dvx, small set,old house w/ horrible wiring problems)...Kinos and a Dedo light kit were the solution. It was the first time Id lit w/ them as the DP and wow, what great tools...
  14. And this is different from how the DVX derives a "24p" image?
  15. The director wants to shoot super 8 to cut together with some HD studio footage being shot at the same time. Using ASA160 on the super 8 is going to be rough since the exposure is lit for 2.8/4.0 for video, roughly 320ASA. Im supplying the camera so I wanted to know what to suggest abouty this discrepancy...If we push process the film how much will we be distorting"" the image??? Thanks
  16. Ive been testing chocholate colored gels on the bounce. It makes the "highlights" go brown instead of white. I think its very flattering. Definitely not good for every situation but something worth trying.
  17. Well if you've got the scratch for a Sony HDV & Avid then put some money in your lighting gear as well. I think the most popular light kit for dv is the Arri Kit w/ 2 650W, 1 300W and a 1k broad, stands and accesories in a rolling case. Altman Lights makes a couple kits I think are very versatile (all of these are available at bhphoto.com link below). Altman fresnels have a larger lens size than arri&mole which, I think, gives you more versatility with a limited number of fixtures. I own a Lowel DP4 which are all open faced 1ks, which has its own set of issues, but Im learning to control them and make excellent use of them. Many people, especially dv people, hate them... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller...ht+kit&ci=1&ac=
  18. Im thinking about buying a follow focus for my dvx. Has anyone got one or used one???
  19. Living in Atlanta we dont get alot of freezing weather so Ive taken to storing my tripod in the garage.Does the freezing and thawing pose a long term threat to my equipment?? The electonics (camera, mics, etc) are safely inside.
  20. Well for those of you whom didn't know??? I trust Im not the only one: Purkinje effect The tendency of the peak sensitivity of the human eye to shift toward the blue end of the spectrum at low illumination levels. It can affect visual estimates of variable stars when using comparison stars of different colors, especially if one of the stars is red.

    Sony HVR-Z1U

please tell us more. How does it compare to the dvx100? f900? etc What did you like about it??? User friendly? Thanks
  22. You asked for ideas so here's a quick one. I recently watched a car sequence that I really enjoyed. The actors faces were rarely featured but it was heavily dialog driven. In stead of cutting on the dialog between faces the cuts were pov (out the window, into the side mirror, exterior shot of car (obviously just someone holding the camera out the window shooting at the front tire),etc. It was very cool the audio was perfect so the story didnt suffer. I wish I could remember what the film was, sorry. But it will save you valuable time and keep from being more of the same.
  23. At one of my clients desks there is a quote "The difference between erotica and porn is the lighting"
  24. I went from a jvc dv500 to the panasonic dvx100 after a singlr shoot. The jvc had a larger chip and a better lens but i was and am smitten with the 24p. And given your posting this question on this board Ill asume you want the camera for cinematic goals...24p the way to go, definitely. That being said the xl1s is going cheap these days and I really like it but by the time you outfit it for xlr sound your looking at close to the dvx price...Run a search on eBay for the DVX100a, its going for as little as $2500 new,,, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...3858128534&rd=1
