  1. It should affect the contrast just as a red or orange filter for B/W would I have never tryed it, but i cant see why it should not
  2. Maybe i can sneak in a question on the same matter aswell then. I was thinking about getting a C-mount to M42 adapter for a 4008 (probably, as i dont own the 4008 yet) "The Super8 book" by lenny lipton tells me "most" 35mm SLR lenses will work whit this adapter. Which ones will not? Will there be any problems whit focal planes or distorted images? Do you need a colimate for every lens? (I think colimate is the right word) Thanks!
  3. Hi gary, im not sure what you mean to be honest. The 4008 modification was never taken any further so its just like in the picture. The 5008 on the otherhand was already modified to take an XLR connector. Basicly the 5008 battery consists of 3 Pins which fits into 3 slots on the camera. So you just solder those 3 slots together whit 3 cables leading to the three pins of an XLR connector, voila! I dont have the 5008 anymore so i cant show any picturs of it im afraid. Yeah the 4008 is abit more difficult, but ive seen a few good mods that should work just as good!
  4. Come to think of it, it might not be the best thing too post this batterypack talk here, Dont want to cludder a perfectly fine thread. So i made a new topic insted if anyone feel like replaying to it. Here it is: http://www.cinematography.com/forum2004/in...showtopic=28415 Sorry for the mess!
  5. So realized that posting in the other thread where i posted this might not be the best thing really. So ill post it here insted, hope it can be atleast somewhat informative. So these are a few pics of the Batterypack we tryed out for the 4008 and the 5008 although it was never really used on the 4008 ZM since that one was in need of service (Something we only noticed when we tryed to run film through it, the motor didint really have the power to pull the film which a talk whit Bjorn confirmed, to bad we didint have time to service it then) So the batterypack was used along whit the 5008 MS insted, which we wore pleased to see already was modified to take an XLR connector whit power for it. Which looked lika alot simpler modification then to the 4008! So the pics of the 4008 is a crued prototype to test it out. Soldering directly to the pins doesnt work though unless you maybe grind them down to expose some roughed up metal. Insted we used clamps under the tests of the camera. If thats the right word for it. But we might buy this 4008 anyway and get it serviced and then build a new and improved Batterypack for it. I say we because i can't take the full credit, or rather blame for this mod  The XLR connector is taped together due to a solder breaking during a shoot so we had to resolder it on location. (Dont wire it so the solders can brake against the plastic XLR protectiv cover!) Hope this can help atleast someone in designing ther own betterypack!

  7. Well you could build your own Battery pack for the 4008 and the 5008, It not really that hard and there are a few good websites whit instructions on how to do it. I built my own for the 4008 out of 6 AA batteris and they lasted around 1 week whitout the need to recharge. It was then easily adapted to the 5008. So dont rule these cameras out!
  8. Thanks again for your help michael you've given me allot of much needed info and help here on the Super8 forum since i registered! Greatly appreciated! The problem is our library at school doesnt have much info about Filmworks im afraid. Got a few books ordered from Amazon that should be Arriving soon! (Some of them you recomeded if i remember correctly) Im just trying not to slack to much inbetween Christams and New Years and get something done, i hope atleast hehe. Deadline comming up aswell, so no time to order anymore more books from other sources then Swedish really. The movie we shot is scanned and ready aswell to be edited (Cant barely wait to get it) Though only miniDV quality im afraid, woulde be a nice to send 1 or 2 reels to Zürich for HD scan and compare the quality. Should be a significant difference dont you think?
  9. Well, ill try too choose more carefully what i ask in the future then As i need something of higher information level then Wikipedia i thought id ask here for tips, my fault i guess. Though seems im not the only one screwing up! :P This thread is pretty much dead anyway so no worries ;)
  10. I dont quite follow you to be honest, thats a long post, what is it that i should see or realize? Or do you just mean "Learn to google" "RTFM" ? ;)
  11. Thanks! Lots of grate links, thats should cover most of it! Maybe i should learn how to google better
  12. Thanks allot! If you dont mind, i will qoute you on that. Couldnt find any books that confirmed the theory, And the ones i orderd on Super8 hasnt arrived yet.
  13. Hello Its widely known that Negative film stocks got a wider range then reversal stocks right? Just to make sure i got this right, this will mean you dont blow out your highlights as fast and that you get more information from the darker parts of the scen aswell? Im writing a dissertation, well i think thats the name in Englis anyway  So if what im saying is true i need a source to quote aswell Anyone can help me whit this? someone who has worked proffesionaly would be a very nice source ;) Thanks!
  14. I ran a 1200W HMI from a standard Honda Gasoline generator not to long ago. Had really visable flicker whit every pulse of the engine, so it was pretty useless. Didnt know it could damage the lamp though, good thing we didint leave it running for to long.
  15. Wow, thanks allot! That should cover most of what i need really. Ill pm you about that PDF!
  16. Hello there! Im a 3:rd year student of "Mediaproduction" here in Sweden. We just wraped the shooting of our short super8 film And now we need to get started on finishing the "Essay" part. So im looking for literature on Super8 I need books on the technical aspect and historical aspect. Weblinks might do, but solid books would really be the best. Hope some of you got a few nice tips! Thanks!
  17. hehe alright Michael i see what you mean! Just got real curious if you had any inside information i didint have that could make or brake our movie ;) Really anxious to get shooting now! Thanks for the nice words, 95% better results then most Super 8 wouldnt be all that bad!
  18. Wow! Michael.. What is wrong whit the 5008? does that include the 5008MS? Im wondering since i just shot a test roll whit that, the 5008MS, that i havent got delivered yet. So i havent seen any pictures from it, but we're gonna make a short movie using it next week. Any special problem whit it?
  19. Thanks again Alessandro for some grate tips! Actually the film arived today, so we will run tests all night! The battery pack is done and seems to be working grate, the extra pack we had is of the same design, you just switch the AA batteris in the holder. Yeah, we're trying to get one of the better tripods at school, and hope to have the ability to stick whit it for the entire shoot. We have some cartoni tripods that are utter.. well, mighty bad! Hope some Vinten will be free Sorry, its not 22 rolls, its 8-12 rols whit the original 250mAh battery So we should get 10x that whit 2500mAh around 80-120 somwhere.
  20. hehe :D Sorry for confusing you all, ill try to explaing what i ment. Since i had other stuff to take care of, i couldnt complete the building of the battery pack myself The info is just from the dude that had it completed really. Maybe when the original batterys wore new they could power the camera for a good 22 rolls? Anyway since we know this aint true anymore, you really need a fresh one. The new pack is a simple 6 AA 1.2V 2500 mAh wired to output 3.6V from 3 batteries and 7.2V from 3+3 batteries basicly. The man who got it all finished estimated a good 100 rolls of filming from this pack, if kept warm. Im not really sure though, guess we will find out, got some spares just in case. So no, this Björn will only fix old original batteris to work like they wore new as far as i know! Hope that clarifies my rambling  Will be getting the test rolls end of this week, very excited to give it a try and see if everything holds upp! Take care people!
  21. Thanks for the tip, but we're all sorted on the battery front. 7.2V on the center-, 3.6v on the middle- and ground on the far -tip. I've heard about a dude here in Sweden that services beaulieus and can allso fix new batterys. Think i got his mail somewhere. These batterys should give us allot longer running time from our camera aswell, around 22 rolls whit the original i've heard This pack should give us over 100 rolls :)
  22. Thank you! Okay, lets not call it "variable shutter speed" :) Well, i dont think i will ever let it run in automatic mode, maybe for the odd slowmotion shot then. We're currently wokring on a homemade battery pack whit 2 sets of AA battery changes which i will run under my jacket to keept it warm!
  23. Thanks for the nice and informative replay Alessandro! Think im getting my head around the Shutter speed difference somewhat, So basicly i need to expose 1 third of a F-stop lower then what the lightmeter suggests. I think the Guillotine design is good because you dont loos much light in camera right? But maybe i would need to over exposue even abit further, im thinking since this is a zoom lens and it might not let in that much light? or am i way off? Well our school didnt really want to spend too much money on us, and since the 64T was cheaper we went whit that. Time is allso an issue, we should save some time going 64T compared to Negative. Id sure like to try negative aswell, but i guess that will be in the future! Oh, on the issue of Slowmotion, since the 4008 got a variable Shutter: 4 - 70fps, If i during a shoot crank it from 24fps to 70fps, will i not also underexpose my film really bad aswell? How do you normaly deal whit this? Thanks again, all help appreciated greatly!
  24. Greetings all! Im currently in the pre-production phase of a short film that we will shoot on Super8 using a Beaulieu 4008 ZMII . We have ordered the ektachrome 64T reversal film from germany an will be getting it by the end of the week. So we?re gonna do a test roll to make sure everything works like it should. I will be doing the cinematography but this will be the first time ever using film insted of some sort of DV. So ill get right down to the questions. We got a Minolta Spotmeter F, One of these: http://www.rogercavanagh.com/MyGear/Linked...otmeter%20F.pdf So we need to sync the lightmeter to the camera. I?ve found these figures at Wiki about the 4008 It got a Angenieux 1,9 / 8 - 64 mm Exposure Times: * 2fps = 1/7th second * 4fps = 1/15th second * 8fps = 1/30th second * 18fps = 1/65th second * 24fps = 1/80th second * 25fps = 1/87th second * 36fps = 1/130th second * 50fps = 1/175th second * 70fps = 1/250th second We will try to run the camera at 25fps i think, atleast under fluorescent light to avoid flicker right? Otherwise i guess 24fps is better so we can atleast try to record some sound and hope it syncs. Not gonna be a dialogue heavy little film, and we can do most of the sound in post. We dont have any sync gen for it. Or is that effected in any way by the Guillotine shutter? The flicker. Maybe i should mention aswell that im located in Sweden, so 50Hz! As far as i know that lightmeter can only use 1/60 or 1/120 shutter speeds. So what should we set it for shooting at 1/80? And what about shooting slowmotion? How will that effect it all? This is what you call a micro budget movie, we will get some equipment from school and try to rent another 1.2k Arrisun, in addition to that we got a few Redheads, some blondies and whatever we can get as practical lights. Im sure a few more questions will arrise as we get closer the the actual shoot! Really appreciate any help and advice Really grate community this is, been reading up on as many threads as possbile, im sorry if i have missed the answer to any of my questions in any of them.
