  1. Thanks all. David, can you explain Harrison's system ? and who can be sure of gel filters have a same numbers or not (rasco or lee not important)
  2. is gel filter numbers are same as glass (4x4 camera filters) and why every campany have other numbers why they are not using some standart like -20mrd +12 CC ??? 80A blue, 81 yellowish, 82 blue again no sense.
  3. yes they are coming, they will be good answer to our question. we will see is it same of 35 or not? sensor size is same so picture must be same too. anyway I think the problem not only depth of field. so you cant correct it just with big sensor. the pixels are not equal with grains. grains are 0.3 - 5 microns... pixels are 7-9 microns. D20 is single sensor so every 4 pixel is one dot. it means 36 micron is one dot. negative 0.5 - digital 36micron anyway film will better capture the colors. (by mats)
  4. (I coulnt find char of delta thats why used '|') (G Gradient, D density) G= |D / |LgH | Density = Dmax - Dmin |LgH= |D / G Gradient - latitude (stops) 0.3 - 11 0.45 - 7.3 0.5 - 6.6 0.55 - 6 0.6 - 5.5 0.65 - 5 0.8 - 4 1 - 3.3 our stocks are 0.5 right? it can capture 20 stops anyway we can print 7 stops. but in this picture (in first msg) 4 stops contrast on the face and face still plastical (I mean no contrast) soon i will test it myself and develop it in Salamandra (kodak certificated)
  5. of course, but I dont know number or place. I will ask about it. what you need exactly ?
  6. Hello, I heard Lucas told it in 1972 too. Today in our institute was seminar of kodak. its about competituon between s16 and digitals. (sony hdw 900 and panasonic dvcproHD) even s16 much better than newest digital technology but some dp's talking that is same. I think they are not professional enough they have to look on monitor to see picture because they cannot see it directly to eyes. can you scan this magazine and send it by mail ? I need it to show some digital fanatics.
  7. Hello, perhaps many of you knows already this program. its not for cinematography but also very usefull. hard to find all characteristics of lighting sources which we are using. (dedo, kinoflo, arrilighting...) do you know something other like this program ?
  8. Im not looking for all process. tell me please John, can I find formula of K-14 developer ? like this; Working Sol. Water 750 ml Metol 7.5g Sodium sulphite (anh) 100 g Water to 1 Litre
  9. you can manually cut and load film into casettes. ECN-2 process is not hard. I made lots of tests and 2 years used vision 250D as Black and White of course with black and white processing. Ive changed formula of d-76 for it and exposured as 100ASA removed remjet with (I dont know how its in english) 'soda' but also you can remove after all process too. some examples; 1 2 3 4 5 regards.
  10. Are we talkin about K-14 ? because I coulnt find there. its all about motion picture processing... I think Kodak didnt published formula of K-14 developer.
  11. Hello, here is DEMO (Chosing the right film stock) Latitude of new generation films have (except Fuji F400 and Kodak Primetime 640) gamma 0.50-0.55 that means 6-7 stops latitude. -3.5stop is black and +3.5 is white but this pictures shows face -3 stops and face is still close to grey more that black! I coulnt understant which stock is it? how it can this face +0.6 -3? digits seems to contrasty for day.
  12. Thanks all, My question was about formula of developer not all the developing process. I've enough darkroom experience, even more than enough. Im cooking developers and fixers in our lab (in VGIK) last year we spoke about this process and people told nobody knows how to cooke developer for it. I told may be its secret but may be not ? thats why im asking here which and how much chemicals inside of this developer ? second question is new :) where can i see expamles of this process (I mean photos) which latitude had or still have this positives? (gamma, gradient, Dmin Dmax and most interesting color curves) thanks again...
  13. thanks Greg, where can I find formula of developer ?
  14. Thanks David, I decided to shoot on photo I will send it to net. then we can discuss better i want to shoot. I understood what you told, but im still not professional thats why i cannot imagine that it will not convey the moonlight. thanks all.
  15. strange, who is using zeiss or cooke with panavision ?
  16. I love plastical image. for night shooting of course must be shadows but in my example (linked photo) in my opinion it was bad lighting. the beds frame making on wall very hard shadows. which kind of moon is it? coming from windows or inside the room? look at key light direction, everything is great but this frame shadow killed image. i will try to light it with some flood light. flo or softbox (our softboxes is not lighting equal from center to edges) thanks.
  17. Hello all, is anybody know about this process? as I know its for kodachrome. ektachrome using E-6 kodachomes dont have dyes, in process time base getting this couples. and something like this :)) who can explain this process at all ?
  18. 60m and 150m magazine have diffirent ways to charge. in 60 emulsion must be up. (actually I forgot how to charge it) dont buy 1m, lenses are very bad. arround 1000 you can buy new (modificated) convas. with claw and video assist. look at kinor its very good and cheap camera. convas is 58db its too gainy.
  19. I didnt like the example because it seems lighted normally and closed iris. to brake light with branches is good idea but I cannot use it, its high building. (logically) I asked some dp's in school. they told dony use flood light use spot and dont fill it. actually I didnt like it I mean to use spot light. may be better to use kinoflo or softbox ? and get close as can i to frame if white 5.6, I gonna exposure grey -2 stops. (F2.8) to lose bright whites and have lots of shadows. is it good digits for exposure ?
  20. I dont know, as i see on pictures (anomorphic films) lenses are good enough and i heard from lots of dp's that its best lenses. smooter and warmer. zeiss are sharp and high contrast with low abberations. you know what, our tests showing Lomo (russian) lenses are also have high resolution but they have bad picture. Im very interested in test of primos too. is anybody know on net or book good test of primos ?
  21. I think I can make a kinoflo too, jist I will buy lamps of kinoflo body and regulator (to make 40khz frekansy) I can buy it somewhere other it will be very cheap. the problem is hard to make good body I dont know which material will be good for that. for lighting, I dont want to see shadows of bed or shadow on face thats why i will try to light minimally if I'll have kinoflo will get it close to frame and put ND filters. 250lux is enough to exposure as i calculated :) (EI200 film, T2) thanks for advice im reading now, but as i see its not specially for night scene.
  22. EI200 (with shutter 1/50) 6stops latitude bad lens: i was very funny abberation, sorry it was on shooting so I couldnt capture it specially to show. imagine; just a hand in center of frame, background contrast 1 stop (from light to shadow) when hand getting closer to lens shadow of background becaming more bright then lighty place. (of course i've measured with spotmeter same place, it was no difference in light) very bad focus ring (depend of focusing speed changing) , I've marked 3 points on ring and tryed to do as pro camera follow focus. but every time i had other focusing points in same mark. so impossible to use professional manual focusing. dont use built in ND filter, its killing resolution and sharpness.
  23. why calling 1/32 not 32x ? usually optical filters called by density 0.3 .6 .9 or by f.factor like 2x 4x 8x why in digitals they calling 1/16 1/32 ??
  24. I saw same picture (for test) on screen 35mm vs hd (sony 900) it was huge diffirence on picture. I cannot explain most important difference lets say no plastical drawing, depth is bad and latitude is low I've tested dvcpro HD 2 weeks ago, everywhere written that 8 stops latutude have. results of my test was 6 stops. (with this addictional %10 error level) anyway digits are not important than picture in my option better to shoot on 16mm may be new generation HDs (D-20 and new panavision HD) will be similar to negative.
  25. Hello all, first of all im interested most used lenses in us. as I know in europe countrys people working mostly with zeiss and cooke because primo or lets say panavision is expensive or not renting. what is Xtal express ? (is it some mount for zeiss?) last question, is here anybody heard about new master primes?
