  1. Hi, I shot some of the scenes and they came out overexposed. In this particular scene I also used the filter option that HD100 has. Links here are for the overexposed shots: http://server6.theimagehosting.com/image.p...ure%201.e2f.png http://server6.theimagehosting.com/image.p...ure%203.233.png http://server6.theimagehosting.com/image.p...ure%207.b6a.png http://server6.theimagehosting.com/image.p...ure%208.7b4.png Links here are for the ones that works for me. What can be done? if nothing than at least I o won't think about it :)) http://server6.theimagehosting.com/image.p...ure%209.5d3.png http://server6.theimagehosting.com/image.p...=8stones_09.png http://server6.theimagehosting.com/image.p...=8stones_11.png http://server6.theimagehosting.com/image.p...=8stones_12.png Thanks a lot guys
  2. I also want to stress that I didn't intend to insult the director. Similarly, I was very impressed with his will and determinatino to finish the film.
  3. its quite horrible. this is not a film nor a movie (as in moving images). in my opinion you should have concentrated at least on one thing to make that thing right: i.e. camera work (framing, composition), lighting, mis-en-scene, acting, editing (good montage or evenly important - good sound!) ... something.
  4. In this day and age, someone experienced and talented like David - who is incredibly busy - who takes time to educate young people and give invaluable advice is worthy of any kind of recognition. I know for myself that if not these kinds of forums and people who inhabit them I'd have the hardest time in tryinig to get advice from anyone of those fat-ass cats at film-schools or the "industry".
  5. Dear Tim, I was out in the field and was able to print out and read your reply just now. Thank you so much for your advice and your time! I appreciate it enormously. It is very helpful and I am planning to tranfser the footage tonight. Thank you again!
  6. Hi Tim, thank you so much for your offer of help. You are right, I shot most of the material in regular DV 24P (16:9 option not 4:3) but using HD100U. I also shot a different material (which I don't have to edit in the same timeline as of now) in DV 24P Advanced (also 16:9 option not 4:3) also using HD100U. This brings up another question. I should be able to edit this material without rendering? Am I correct? Please let me know what other information I can provide. Thanks a lot P.S. You are right I should read the FCP manual, but I didn't have it handy and didn't realize it might be on the net (I will check for it). I will also be taking FCP classes in a few weeks so that should make me more knowledgable.
  7. Hi all, I'm lost. I am trying to capture footage recorded in 24P and/or 24PA (doesn't really matter) so I can edit it in FCP 5 but FCP doesn't let me properly do it. While in the capture mode it pauses the capture and does a weird thing pause/step/pause/step each frame. Am I doing something wrong? I tried to capture the footage in iMovie HD with NTSC DV presets and the image came out horrible... What can I do? What are the presets/setting in FCP pro so I can properly capture 24P or 24PA? There are several confusing choices in FCP, i.e. it gives you an option to choose a codec. There is for example DV NTSC 23.98, then DV NTSC 24, Then there is something with Advanced pull down, also Apple Intermiediate Codec 720P24, HDV 720P30... I am really lost. Please help. And finally what is the diffeence between the option in FCP Audio/Video Settings> There are separately SEQUENCE PRESETS and CAPTURE PRESETS. What is the difference? Do they have to be set to the same values? Thank you in advance and sorry if anything is vague or unclear. I ust spent (wasted) 4 hours trying to figure this stuff out and I am quite stressed out.
  8. Yes, this is it. Thank you so much!!!
  9. Hi, someone posted here alinnk to a closed type of article on Wikipedia (one that you can't search through google) on HD100. It was basically a series of requently asked questions about HD100, but it also contained lots of interesting information about battery producers etc. I can't find the thread anymore :( does anyone know what I am talking about? Thanks
  10. Hi, forgive a potentially stupid question, but I have no idea how to proceed with the footage that I shot on HD100. I've heard that some people do HD to SDI conversion for NLE editing. What does it mean? Please be as simple as you can. As far as I know my HD100 records HDV footage not HD. I am planning to edit my footage on a PC in Adobe Premiere Pro. 1. Do I need any kind of conversion? 2. Can I just simply edit HDV footage? 3.Why would I need to convert it to SDI? 4. Is SDI and SD the same thing? 5. Which is the best option for preserving quality??? 6. Should I pay attention to special codecs like: MPEG, Quicktime, etc. Please note that you'd be explaining all this to a reall dummy in editing technology. I beg of you to be as simple as possible in your explanations... Thank you P.S. A friend of mine once transfered his HD100 footage to Adobe Premiere Pro using Aspect HD capture plug-in. Does it do anything to the footage? Does it convert to SDI? I know he wanted to preserve 24p setting and that's why he used the Aspect Plug-in. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!
  11. Plenty of choices my friend: 1. http://www.cinemek.com/ 2. http://www.redrockmicro.com/ 3. Also you can look for Letus 35a adapter. Good luck
  12. I bought mine from Ebay, refurb with Manufacturer's warranty. So far, its great.
  13. Hi, thank you for your reply. I am not sure I understand any of this terminology unfortunately. What tools are there to downconvert or redner to DV file? How do I do all of that?
  14. Hi, I shot a short film on HD100 HDV camcorder, edited it as HDV in Adobe Premiere Pro and now its the time to export to DVD. First, Adobe gave me errors when I tried to export it to DVD. Then I realized that the problem could have been that I did not downconvert to SD for exporting to DVD. Is it true? If this is the case, what do I have to do to export the footage to DVD? DO I have to downconvert? How? What is the best way to preserve the image quality which is essential. Thank you very much P.S. I forgot to add that when I try to export to DVD in adobe premiere pro is give me "Transcoding Error"
  15. Hi Simon, you sent me an email some time ago asking about HD100. I just replied to it, apologize for the delay but I've been busy with my film. Don't worry about compression issues. I've wasted countless hours asking, researching, and punding my head over these issues that in the end do not matter at all. The quality of this camera is amazing if you know how to handle it i.e. - light, film, iris, lens, etc. and of course if you know what to tell and how to tell. This is what matters in the end. I shoot on tape (HDV) and trust me the image quality is superb. Rati
  16. Hi Chris, thank you for your reply/clarification. Those things are quite expensive, you are right. A friend of mine has an illegal copy (I think from one of those download engines, torrent or donkey) of AspectHD and I will use that. It seemed to work great when I saw it. Honestly, I'd pay, but sometimes its a choice of eating or editing, so in this case I am willing to bend the copyright law a tad bit :) :D
  17. Hi, whats the difference between AspectHD and ConnectHD? Thank you
  18. Thank you so much. I checked out the web-site. Thanks again
  19. Hi, I've heard that its not possible to capture HD footage in 24P directly on MAC, unless one uses Lumiere HD program. Is that also true for PS? Someone told me that AspectHD does the job...??? Has anyone tried AspectHD? Any recommendations? Thank you
  20. I am wondering if anyone know or has used Dyntran tripods. Amvona.com sell them on ebay and they seem quite nice with pro features. In addition they are not very expensive, as I don't have a large budget for a tripod right now. Do you think it will do a good job? There is one: http://cgi.ebay.com/PROFESSIONAL-VIDEO-TRI...1QQcmdZViewItem and I am wondering what is your opinion. Also, a lot of these tripod say its a video tripod. Whats the difference between video and film tripod? Thank you
  21. I must thank Mr. Collier for his great input. I, myself, just bought the HD100 and am shooting a short film with a very small crew (DP, AC and couple of ohter crew members). The images that came out so far are very beautiful (I am shooting in black and white). So far, I own HD100 camera only and I had to rent the rest of the equipment (tripod, jib arm, etc. Lights and some other useful stuff came with my DP). I was wondering about the tripods and monitors and HD editing PS systems and Michael's post covers it very nicely. I only have one question, which monitor could I buy for not expensive that I can use in the field? I understand that in Michael's post HD CRT monitor is for desktop/post production use...? Also what is Real MAgics DVrack with the HDV extension? Overall, I like the HD1000 very much. I bought it refurbished though and it came with a few problems of its own. During the third of the shoot it died all of a sudden. No prior symptoms whatsoever. We had to wrap that day and I lost some money because of that. I sent it to the HVC repair center (they were astoundigly fast) and it came back in 2 days flat. Turns out the fuse blew and they replaced it. I've been using it since and it's been fine (its been one week only though and I only worked it for couple of hours per day, not the 18 hour days we did during the shoot). Another issue, that I found is the on-board mic. It either does not record sound or something else is wrong, and I could not figure out what it is. I adjusted the sound rec levels and they move during the recording session. But when I do the play back there is not sound. Also, during the shoot, there is no sound coming out of the headphone... or very very little. You have to be in a sound proof room to hear that there is actually sound coming through headphone its so low... I am not sure wehat to do. Should I send it again to JVC? Its pain in the ass to go to the post office, etc although they were very quick the first time...
  22. Thank you. But which is higher quality? MPEG or AVI? Sorry, I think I misunderstood you. What do you mean by straight DV? What format is that as opposed to AVI or MPEG? How would I be able to edit that?
  23. Hi, I have a MAC Mini and several DV tapes that I'd like to put on the hard drive without loss of generation/quality. I don't have any special capture cards or anything, just Final Cut Express software. Is it possible to capture my DV's without loss of quality 1:1 from DV to Mac? Which format should I use? Avi, MPEG? Which is the higher quality format? BTW, I am capturing from Canon Elura 65. Thanks a lot P.S. Also, which non-linear editing softs have color correction option that I could use?
  24. Phil, thank you! I am also looking forward to your review
