Hey Drew, Although it contradicts Adrian's advice (which is sound advice!) due to it shooting on cards....when you go to a rental place ask them about the EX3. I think its the best HD pro-sumer camera out there at the moment. As I've mentioned it shoots onto cards(which in your situation might be better in cost lowering) but the image quality is FAR superior to the HVX200 and as you are shooting a pilot you're trying to impress....also, you might find that the difference in rental price is minimal, if not the same. Remember to back it up twice!

Pleasure David. I know what you mean though, its nice to a stock that has been worked. Rather than a promotional dvd that is there as a sales pitch.

I think, like you said, it comes down also to how disciplined you are. The Gaffer that I work with can put one up in no time at all and the light is great for a walk and talk or a tight situation as a top light. Horses for courses springs to mind.....

Jon, I disagree with you comment about china balls. If you know your bulbs you can get a wonderful fall off look, which you've seen and will see in many professional productions.

I know what you mean about the Genesis Ruari.....but it fit "State of Play", imo, so well that it completely tricked me into not noticing it.

I recently did a side by side test with the Vivid 160 and kodak 7285 reversal. I'm sorry to say but the Vivid doesn't come close to reversal. Great colours and contrast....but just not the same. David - I'll try and put up some stills from the Vivid

Alternatively you could go somewhere dearer (but safer) http://www.filmtools.com/chinlan.html In terms of bulbs, I normally use photofloods (3400k). Somebody in here gave me this link sometime ago...very helpful...http://www.bltdirect.com/product.php?pid=1515 Unfortunately I've never really heard of daylight photofloods.

I wasn't actually aware of the mix of formats on "State of Play".....I agree that this certainly shows how you can "marry" both formats. I too am a political thriller fan, so I was very pleased to see "State of Play". Just like I was on a french film that I saw this year, which title has been translated to "Anything For Her" (Pour Elle). Not a political thriller but the similarity on both these films, is that they didn't use CGI or any other "fake" digital effects to make it work. It was just plain ol fashioned good film making! (for the record, I don't object to artificial elements, as long as they're done properly)

Hey Guys, I watched "State of Play" the other night and was really impressed by R Prieto's work on it. His command of colours was very impressive in "Lust, Caution" but the variety of exposures, colours and un-intrussive lighting in "State of Play" made me sit up... I was wondering other ppl's thoughts on this film?

It really is a lovely video. Lots of emotion and visual food in there.... Great work!

Hey Chad, I wouldn't buy a camera as it seems that every 5mins a new one comes out, plus the maintenance costs, plus the prices (ok, I know....red). If I could afford it I would love to buy a set of prime lenses....something like a new set of Cooke's.

Hey Amanda, As already said, forget about the fantasy that going to the best film school will get you noticed earlier. This is an industry that is a hard slog! The only benefits that you'll get from your film school is: 1) use of equipment 2) future contacts 3) friendships Don't mean to rain on your parade but its better that you get it earlier rather than later. Good luck in your decision!

Hey Annie, Although your sub-title says that you never want to see those ppl again....from my own experience I'm afraid to say that it is more likely that you will. Ours is a very small world! Good to hear that you got payed. As for the dp steaming across the road, could it not be that he parked somewhere where he ran the risk of getting a ticket?! I do sometimes put myself in that position in the hope that whatever I'm about to do, I can do it quickly without having to fork out for parking. I know it sounds like penny pinching (and it even does to me now as I read this back to myself) but hey! Look after your pennies and your pounds (bucks, in your case) will look after themselves.

Aha! It was prior to that firmware update that I lost interest then.......I retract my comment. Saul - from what you and Elliot say I should imagine that manual control would come as standard on the 7d. Does anyone know if it this 7d has inherited the 5dII's rolling shutter problem?

but the 5d would only allow you to shoot moving images in auto mode.....has it changed with the 7d?
