  1. I suggested those. Then I thought about how much those cost, my guess is they have no more than 50k to spend on a complete camera package. Thanks.
  2. Thanks and I agree with both of you! However I need some advice, so here are the details. The thing is, my friend works for Children United nations. They basically want him to put together a complete crew and package that can travel where ever they need them to and already have everything they need in place and with them & bring in support as is necessary. With this info, do you still think renting would be the best?
  3. Hello all. I was recently asked the question, of all the HD cameras out there which one would I buy? My answer was, it depends on what you plan on shooting. I was then told everything from interviews to feature productions. Then I was stumped, there are so many choices. So what HD camera would you invest in?
  4. I second that, G Raid is the way to go. Used it for RED footage and it worked great.
  5. There are many ways to light then. A good thing about an Interview is you can really perfect your lighting. Its all a matter of your personal taste. I would suggest a large soft source to the side as key. I often like to bounce light off of some bead board, foam core, what have you making that the light source then sending that through a frame of diffusion in other words a book light. This gives some safety for movement as the source will wrap around nicely. You can add some fill to the opposite side be aware of what your ratio of key to fill is you don't want the fill to kill your key. Or negative fill by setting a flag on the opposite side. You could even place a little lamp in the back ground and play off that and giver her a nice little back light, using a smaller unit that is. Be conscious of your angle of light you don't want to cause a loop lighting effect, where there is just a loop shadow from the nose, this is not pleasing. Have fun with it, there are to many ways to write how to do this. I often like to light the scene and not just the actor keep this in mind and a simple interview can become something amazing. All the best. -Christopher Arata
  6. Well it depends... it sounds like your shooting an interview, if not what kind of scene is it?
  7. This was a great movie. To say that one feels sorry for the crew who worked on this movie makes no sense. They did a incredible job. The writing my not be a strong point, but visually the movie is great and could not have been filmed any other way. To quote Darius Khondji from SE7EN commentary " I find that movies are often to beautifully lit and shot, and do not serve in the overall feeling of the story" this is fitting because Michael Bonvillain clearly understands this point and it shows in Cloverfield.
  8. Hello All. I have AC on 2 features using the RED here in LA both with the RED zooms' & a standard speed Zeiss 135 and must say the first time I was not to impressed, with the camera. The second time was much better, however I did notice that the lenses were getting dust inside the front glass element. I have seen this problem before in DSLR lenses because of dust gathering while being zoomed out and brought back in, a defect and simple fix by the factory. I was wondering if any one else has had this problem with the RED zooms'? Thanks.
  9. Have you looked into Panasonics device: AJ-PCS060G Portable DVCPRO® HD/50/25 P2 Store Drive with USB 2.0 Interface its pretty good. I have AC a hand full of shoots with the HVX and P+S Technik, never the red rock though unlike others I have heard good things about the red rock. Every shoot has either used Panasonics device or the older mac books have a slot for the P2 cards and as long as the AC keeps them safe...I recommend putting a piece of gaff tape over the end to keep dust and other objects out until you download...every thing should be ok. If worst comes to worst you can always download straight from the camera to the computer slows down the work flow but that is if worst comes to worst. Hope that helps
