  1. Hi, anyone with any experiance with wittner 50d?. I've just received one cartridge back from the lab, and the images are as steady as the wittner 100d. No jitter ( even at 54fps ) and the definition is amazing. I also found the stock is less prone to blown out hightlights when compared to 100D.
  2. Hi, fyi, the 1014xl-s is 67mm filter size. Purchased my 72mm B+W filters as a special order form http://www.croydonphotocentre.co.uk/ some time ago though... I'm sure they can still order them in... A possible solution would be to cut a slot into the cartridge to prevent the filter being swung out of the way. The filter lever is the one under the gate, see photo... I'm not sure if this method will affect the auto iris metering.....
  3. Hi, from my limited experiance with Cooke and Schneider lenes, namely the TTH 12.5 T2, 25MM T2 and the Schneider 10mm f1.8 and 25mm f1.4, i found the schneider to be sharper, especially wide open, found the 12.5 to go woolly at the edges when wide open. All the lenses were in perfect condition, and correct back focus. On flatter days, i tended to opt for the TTH lenses as they gave a warmer look to the image. A late summers evening i would also choose the TTH lenses. kodachrome 25 and tth glass what memories...
  4. Hi, gently slap the cartridge in the palm of your hand before loading. If fault persists try another cart of film. If your camera is still playing up, a repair would out weigh the value of a replacement camera.
  5. Hi, the camera was also supplied with the 6-80 angenieux lens, this too is 62mm.
  6. So if your saying the sharpness of a film is down to the optics only. Please tell me why my 16mm kodachrome 25 footage is sharper with more detail than my kodak 16mm 100D footage filmed using the same lens/camera?? Please explain to me why my super 8 k40 is sharper than kodak 64t using the same 10mm lens on my leicina camera.
  7. Hi, i've no experiance with crystal controlling a super 8 camera, so i'm not sure which camera lends itself to be converted. One thing i would advise, is avoid th 6080, unless the camera has a full 6-12 month guarantee, although a quiet running camera, the main problem with Nizo 4 series cameras is they rely on an internal belt for the drive mechanism. Over time this belt stretches, thus causing problems with the film transport. Canon 814/1014xls are great cameras, imo a tad over-rated, optics go a little soft at F1.4-2-8... Beaulieu 4008 zmll geat camera, personally i do not like the 1/87th shutter at 24 fps, fast moving footage looks a bit strobby to me, much prefer the 7008 camera instead. Best super 8 zoom lens (c-mount ) is the schneider 6-66, followed by the angenieux 6-80.. For quietness, the Nizo is the clear winner, followed by a serviced 4008, then the canon For best image quality, consider a 4008 with 6-66 lens Best run/gun camera is canon 814/1014 xls. If i had to choose, Canon 814xls ( slightly cheaper than a 1014xls )
  8. Hi, the camera uses 16mm wide film, but there are more sprocket holes on double 8 film so NO you cannot use 16mm film. You need to use double 8 film, also known as regular 8... Suppliers in the US for Double 8 film that i'm aware of are:- http://zerelda.com/internationalfilm/internationalfilm.html plus Dwaynes photo also stock regular 8 100D http://www.dwaynesphoto.com/ In Europe you have http://www.wittner-kinotechnik.de/katalog/...mm/d8_filmm.php
  9. def not a gimmick, i have a 7008 pro that transports wittner 100d, plus all the kodak products perfectly. Sounds like be your claw requires adjustment.. Aww, make sure your batts are good. The 6008/7008 are rather power hungry, you may only get 4-5 carts with one new set of AA batteries..
  10. Luckily for now i'm still getting my fix from kodachrome. Personally i'm no fan of 100D. Lacks the resolving power of kodachrome. 100D has no bite to the image its ok for close up stuff, but film some distance scenes and compare with k25 and k40. I too shoot ds-8 and 16mm, i'm the first to admit my hate for 64t at first, however, i much prefer 64t over 100d..
  11. They haven't announced it yet, as there is possibly a stock pile of the stuff. Pretty much like when they announced the end of super 8 k40, 16mm k40 was spared for another twelve months ( less users, more of a stock pile ). Imo, the end of 64t will be soon, maybe 1-2 years....
  12. filter size is 62mm on the 6-70 lens... Please remember you're shooting with reversal film, exposure is more critical than 200T or any neg stocks. Def run a film thru the camera before the shoot.
  13. Hi, 64t requires a filter 85b, not 85 ( thats my understanding, and i always use an 85b with 64t ) To swing the filter out of the optical path of a ZM & ZMII requires a filter key to be inserted between the body of the camera and handgrip. On the ZM4 with a 6-70 lens, generally the filter is built into the lens, just operated the little knob/slider thing near the iris. From experiance with beaulieu cameras, i've found the iris tends to close down in auto mode, especially if a bright area ( water, sky etc ) enters the frame, take a reading and lock the exposure. As a very rough guide, at 24 fps with 64t exposure should be no smaller than approx F11 on a sunny day, here in the uk, i would opt for f8- f8/11 depending upon subject matter... So if your camera is saying f16-f22 i would be worried... filming say at 24 fps exp is f8 at 48fps exp will be f5.6 stick with the lens that came with the camera, unless that canon zoom lens has been properly adjusted to the camera you may get soft images, especially at wider aperatures..... run at least one test film thru the camera and see the results before the day of the shoot
  14. Each to his own, i've exposed Circushrome, nice and sharp, bit too jittery for me, some people like 64t as it gives one a more grainy super 8 look ( yes i was anti 64t at first ). However reperfed 50d in my experiance does not transport well thru my super 8 cameras, or my 16mm SR2. For that reason, i stick to kodak perfed products. I agree 50d is the way to go in reversal film, i just wished fuji would perf and optimize the film for MP work....
  15. No sorry don't have any codes, pretty sure 64t was reperfed and lubicated etc for super 8 use, from the stills version of 64t. I wonder is kodak will put any cash into giving us a replacement for 64t once supplies are exhausted. ( just hope its not 100d )
  16. just a thought, sure its not the mirror which has come unglued inside the camera body?
  17. Hi, you can use ( until dec 2010 ) wittner 40t which is kodachrome 40 repackaged and split from double super 8 kodachrome 40, you can also use wittner 50d http://www.wittner-kinotechnik.de/katalog/...mm/s8_filmm.php or try this place for 50d ( again reperfed fuji 50 velvia ) http://www.spectrafilmandvideo.com/Film.html seem to be out of stock at present.... Note fuji/wittner 50d in some cameras ( including mine ) tends to give jumpy/unstable images..
  18. Hi, just clocked this on the kodachrome project forum http://www.kodachromeproject.com/forum/showthread.php?t=526 appears kodak has axed 64t, this surely must have a knock on effect to super 8 64t!! http://www.kodak.com/global/en/professiona...3319/1229/13393
  19. http://www.steenbeck.com/ look in the news section NEW: ST 2520 REWINDER will only require a super 8 adapter !!!
  20. Hi, inspect the film, check for creases on the film, experianced exactly the same, always towards the end of the film. Seems common to a certain lab with me.
  21. FYI, later eumigs like the said camera, suffered from poor QC, make sure the camera is in full working order.. Eumig manufactured cameras for bolex from the early 1970s. The eumig will not expose 64t correctly, if your project requires run-n-gun on auto exposure, either route out another 64t compatable camera or at least run a test cart thru the camera.
  22. Hi, that cable release 'should' be ok for use with the bolex. I'm not sure where your located, i'm in the uk and purchase my cleaning cloth these people in the USA. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-MOVIE-FILM-CLEANIN...=item588095cf7f used to clean film with carbon tetrachloride , now i use http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/level5/module.j...=cpc/265587.xml (Isopropyl Alcohol Cleaner ) Splicer, tape or cement ? here is a cement one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BOOTS-SUPASPLICE-SUP...=item5ad4a87798
  23. Hi, batch number should be on the side of the box/ the original packaging the film came in.
  24. ironic the most stable colour film becomes history after next year! We have ektachrome 160 super 8 home movies from 1983 they still look perfect.
