  1. Ok, so if your wondering why the trailer isn't available anymore, it's because we deleted it. We'll try and put it back up when we've scored the music for it. Actually, it will probably look a whole lot better than it did, cause the old one was all raw footage and the sound wasn't mixed yet either. But please check out the blog for photo's and other news. http://www.brakelitefilms.blogspot.com/
  2. Hey thanks for the insight. I never knew that before, but I'll make sure that I remember that from now on. Thanks again.
  3. Thanks. :) Oh and btw, the music isn't ours, it's from The Assasination of Jesse James. Because, we're not done with the score yet we had to use some other music.
  4. Thanks. :) Yeah I think your right about the compression. I'll have to ask the director, he rendered it. Also, I used a rosco deep straw gel which was a yellowish colour on other footage, but on this it almost looks red, which I'm not sure why. I'll have to look at it again. Thanks again. I'm young and there are soo many things that I wish I would've done differently, but now I get to do them in the next film. :)
  5. Please check out our blog for stills, trailer, and other news about our film, "In the Silence." :) http://www.brakelitefilms.blogspot.com/
  6. Here's a trailer for a film called "In the Silence" that I did the cinematography for. The trailer is a very early trailer, so it's pretty rough. For example the we still are scoring the music for it. Also, it's not a very high quality file, but we'll try and get an HD one up soon. Hope you enjoy and please leave comments and tell me how I'm doing. :) http://www.brakelitefilms.blogspot.com/
  7. Check this site(below). It has all kinds of plans. Also, you can search the forum and you should find a ton of topics with plans. Good luck. :) http://www.selfreliantfilm.com/?page_id=101
  8. Ok, now I get you. I seriously thought you were saying that a cinematographer is someone who just throws a camera on a tripod and starts shooting things. So, now that I understand you I'm very glad that your not like that. Lately, ppl have been having the impression that I just shoot stuff to put on youtube and stuff, which has been getting a little annoying, uno. Anyway, that's really cool that you like DFN. I think it really depends on what look your going for. So, good luck with all that your doing and if you ever post pics or a video of your stuff let me know. And I'll be sure to let you know when I put "In the Silence" on Vimeo. Salutations to you too. :)
  9. Hey maybe I misunderstood your post, but it's totally not unrealistic to grow old with your partner and love her every day of it. And especially to remember why too. That's what love is supposed to be, not this stupid "Physical Feeling", that's lust, and only skin deep. That worldly thought of what love is will only last so long. But to explain myself, I mean to say that there are most definitely people who love each other right up to the day one of them passes away. For example of just one of the many, my parents have been happily married now for 30 years and they still love each other so much it's a little awkward for us kids. And I can say right now with complete assurance that they will always be together and they will always love each other with the same intensity as on they're wedding day. Yes they have had they're arguments, but they have always gotten through them. So I guess I'm just saying that you are most conclusively mistaken, if you say that it's unrealistic because the couple would eventually lose there love for one another just because the sex isn't good anymore. I just think that's stupid, and you've got the totally wrong idea about love if you think that all it is about is having sex. I'm sorry if you take offense to what I said, but that's my blantant opinion. And if that's not the way you think and that I mistook your post, then I'm sorry and I am happy for you. Btw, that wasn't really on subject. The subject is about the Visual Effects, not the story in the video, at least I didn't think so.
  10. Wow, I did not expect that. After like a min. I started to realize they both had reankled eyes, and then all of a sudden they were old. Very cool.
  11. Yeah exactly. Trash bags work wonders. In a film I shot a month ago, we had a lot of interior night scenes. But our actors were stage actors that had either a preformance or a rehearsel every night. So we had to shoot at about noon. We used about 2-3 layers over the windows and it was completely dark inside. It was really cool, but sometimes I could've swore that I thought it was like 9 pm when it was only 2 pm. lol
  12. "I always have to find the right tone musically when i'm working." Yeah exactly, I always try and find the style that fits with the style of the movie too. For example in a movie I'm in the planning stage right now has a fairytale feel to it. So I've been listening to stuff like "Pans Labyrinth", "Hook", and other John William stuff. Come to think of it, other style makes me not even be able to concintrate on the film, cause they both just conflict so much.
  13. Hey thanks Nathesh! I definetley will check it out. :) Oh and since your new you might not know this, but I think this forum requires you to have your full name. Just thought you'd like to know, before someone else chews you out for it.
  14. Yeah I actually was going to say that I came up with another idea. Instead of the 10k, I thought I might put up 2k's around. And that will also add depth in the forest. Which the 2k fresnels are only 20 amp edisons. I've drawn up some lighting diagrams which I'll see if I can post them soon. The film will be fully funded, so money isn't a real issue, take that back, it always is, but I mean we have enough money for lighting. And it would be nice for the shoots to go a little easier as long as it looks right. Come to think of it I usually always get a little stressed at shoots anyway. lol Yeah for DP's electronics is a great thing to learn. :)
  15. For a sunset you'll want to expose for the sky. The ground will be black, but the sky will be beautifully exposed. Also, if your wanting to do a time lapse and don't want to spend a lot of money then all you need to do is take a digital camera and a tripod, and then set it up where you want it. Then take a picture every about 2 sec (it doesn't have to be exact) for as long as you want the sunset to last. It might sound really tedious, but hey it works. :) Then to make it into a video file look for a stop motion software on the internet, there's usually a bunch that are legal and free. Goodluck!
  16. Yeah thanks, the amps thing was like the only thing I really couldn't find an explanation for, so thanks for clearing that up. Pretty much the only information about amps I found gave me the impression that it was more of a plug size not so much with the wattage. But I think I understand now. I've worked with lights that are 50 amps and lower, but never an 100 amp so that kind of boggled me. Anyway, thank you for the info, and I will definetly check that book out, it sounds good. Oh and I'll be 18 when we shoot. Just if your wondering. :)
  17. Wow, the stills look great David. If you ever need an intern let me know. lol :)
  18. Oh dude that's sweet. I actually did something very similar to that in my latest short. That's awesome!
  19. Thank you that's exactly what I was wondering about. So thank you for letting me know about that, before I found out the hard way.
  20. Oh and now that I think about it, I probably should have put it in the lighting forum after all, cause I'm not actually asking for advice about whether I should use a 10k or not. I don't know why I ended up putting it in this one. So my bad. lol
  21. Hi Matt, thanks for the comment. And yes I'll try and put it up on Vimeo when we finish. :) I originally was planning on just doing DFN for it, but now that I've had more experience I've found that doing DFN can look ok, I guess. But I just don't really like it. When I think of night, I think of light areas and true black areas, if you understand. I mean a real contrast between light and dark, where as DFN you don't have control over it. I've found that it ends up looking just really bland. I'm not saying that nobody can do it, but I just don't like the look it gives. Oh also, I have this mindset that it's kinda like cheating. I don't know why I think that, but I'm just weird like that. lol Also, I'm glad you like to have fun during a shoot, and that's totally fine. And I totally like to have fun too, but I've gotten to the point I think where I am not just being a DP for fun, I now strive for excellence, even if it means I my feel like crap when day is done. And I love shooting and it's really fun, it's just I now shoot on how it looks, and if it's not looking the way I visualize it then I take the extra step, and it doesn't matter to me if it takes hard work. So I guess I'm saying that I've already decided that I'm using a 10k, because I know that's what I need. But I want to know, does anyone know if there are like some adapters that I can get so I can hook up the 100 amp plug into a 50 amp socket? I hope I didn't affend you. I just wanted you to know that it's totally cool if you want to just have fun at it. But I like to have fun, but now it's work, great work, but it's work. And I'm trying to do the best I can, cause I'm trying to work for a full ride through film school. So my lighting has to look pretty darn good. I maybe 17, but I try and compare my films with the best. Cause, I won't get to where I want to be unless I learn to as good as the best. So I'm sorry if you took it wrong. :( Thanks comment though, it's great have others input.
  22. Hey thanks for replying paul. The reason why I was going to get one was cause I need to light for a forest at night. And I was going for the same kind of effect that harry potter had in the dark forest scene in the 1st movie. Ummm, I guess the big reason was that I really wanted a strong moon stream of light for the wide. Which naturally I thought I would probably need a lot of light. I saw that most hmi's are much more pricey than just getting a tungsten and throwing a gel over for the moon. And the great thing is that the 10k I found was only like $600, which is pretty cheap in my opinion at least. Anyway, a lot of the film is in the forest, so it would be nice to have it look great. For the close ups it'll be easy to make it look good with just some 2k's, but it's just the wide that I'm worried about, which I don't think 2k's will be quite strong enough. Also, when you said "those are dirt cheap nowadays", were you refuring to the 100 amp generators or the lamps? Again thanks for replying. :)
  23. Ok so I'm looking into buying an 100 amp tungsten 10k fresnel. So my question is this, do I need to find a 10kw generator that has an 100 amp plug, or can I find an 100 amp adapter to bring it down to 50 amps. And if I can do that, where do I find adapters at. Also, if I can't where can I find an 100 amp generator with at least 10kw output, which I for some reason can't find anywhere.
  24. You might have too many pictures uploaded. The site will only allow you to upload so much space. So, you might want to either delete some of your old photos, or make your pictures smaller. Goodluck, and I can't wait to see how your dolly looks. :)
