  1. You wont notice a difference to the eye, but a homebrand might be a bit more annoying to use than a kino. And it wont live forever.
  2. Wish i coulda got the internet to do my homework when i was at school.
  3. The bags have double zips so i figured sand might leak easier. Ill try some though. Thanks mate.
  4. Youre right sir. Ill get some metal stuff.
  5. Youd have to be working a lot more than me to pay off one lamp that costs ten grand.
  6. Buying an expensive lamp in the "film industry" in australia is not a good investment.
  7. Thats what i said Matt! Buy a clone. $4000 compared to Arri retail and it does the same thing. If you buy a 2.5, put tape over the name on side and tell them its an M18 anyway.
  8. Wanker dps will get a hardon when you pull out an M18, so buy that.
  9. I dont get it. If you put an 18k through a black floppy how does it diffuse it? What light gets through would be almost as directional as before wouldnt it? Theres no white area to pickup light and transmit and make it softer. The fact that the light hit something doesnt make it more diffuse, it either goes through it or it gets stopped. Ill have to buy a black silk and try it.
  10. 101 yellow might give you the yellowness of gold and you can different layers if cto (which is hopefully easily borrowed instead of bought) to add the orangeness? Dunno.
  11. Good call. Marbles put me on the path to "small Metal balls". Wonder if i should try magnetised bucky balls??!
  12. Those are actually all good ideas. I feel dumb for not thinking of those. I was thinking metal shot would be heavier and less clingy and less messy if it spills, but maybe sand or gravel is a good idea!
  13. Im with you apart from the bit about the texture of the silk being what diffuses. I cant wrap my head around black diffusing. I understand white. How is it different to like a lavender net then? Isnt it like saying you can have a black bounce board?
  14. Aha! Maybe i can buy a lot of small washers!
  15. Metal scrap! Ill see if that works.
  16. Another stupid question i should know. Ive only seen a black silk used once, they were all raving about it but i was too busy to see the effect. I understand youd use it as an overhead sun diffuser and the idea is to reduce the ambient bounce that white silk produces, but i dont get how black silk still diffuses and doesnt just act as a net. How can it be diffusing if its black? Go ahead and hit me with the incredibly obvious answer which ive missed. Someone should shoot a full on diffusion test. Itd be so nice to see a proper comparison of what they all do. Its too expensive to get enough variety to learn the difference. These days on small jobs offer up a "full diffusion" the dp wouldnt know if it was 216 or an equivalent, but itd be nice to know how it should be.
  17. What can i get to fill empty shot bags with? Im trying to think what it would be called so i can google something locally. I assume theres shot that gets used for something non film related that i can get cheaply but i cant think what it might be.
  18. Oh btw the little bungee things that have a clip on them are imo better than tieing knots. Dunno where youd get em. If its a shoot through 6by inside id normally just put the corner elastics on and not bother tying it. I never understand why if its diff we dont just use the 2 side poles and not a whole frame. So much easier to walk it around etc. You can just spin all the textile up on a pole and lean it against something till you need it. But noone does that but me :(
