  1. Although my PDW 530 does not get to the Digibeta quality I am used to I managed to get it set up and for many purposes it is ideal. I love it and soon I will change to XDCAM HD.
  2. Hi Everyone I am about starting a documentary for German TV on Russian immigrants. On certain scenes I am trying to get a look that will associate with film material that was shot in them sixties and seventies in the USSR on (maybe..)B&W film and colour and was smuggled to the west.Apart from an "amateur like" operating I would like it to be grainy and to have "wrong" colours like material I watched lately from those days. Now' I know I can do a lot in the post prod. and I may also have the Da Vinci for colour correction, but does any of you guys have an idea what I can do while filming? I am testing now some looks and am open to your ideas . Thanks Michael Shubitz DP Israel
  3. The pilot is actually your camera. I experienced better results putting a monitor for the pilot so he sees what you do.The good communication with the pilot make the shot better.
  4. The best experience on my wild life shoots I made with the Sony DVW 700. The price has gone down since it is an old camera. But the digital quality and the colours are great. Maybe you can find a cheap one over there.
  5. A very cheap and effective effect is to light the wall with a lamp place in front of it strips of cloth and blow the strips with a fan. with the right colour it looks very good. The only problem is the sound of the fan.
  6. Hi everyone I am about to go into a Turkish Hammam - a steam bath. Shooting a few scenes in different light conditions. What do you think should I do with the camera and the optics? is it dangerous? should I wrap the camera (A Sony 970 Digibeta )? Did any of you gain experience in such conditions? Thank you Michael Shubitz
  7. I have the J30SDI and it is a good playback maschin.I am using an external jog to improve the handling. It is light and I carry it with my digibeta.
  8. I would try a strong black promist but it is all a question of how the director imagin the atmospher. Are you using ND'S for the windows? is the outside overexposed and the inside? do you have night shots with the huge windows?
  9. Hi Everyone In about a month I am starting a documentary series sailing along the mediteranian. I am supposed to deliver smooth and stable shots from a boat on the sea. There are going to be several boats in the film.Big ones do not cause me trouble but I am worried from shooting on a zodiac or a small fisher boat. Is there any stabilizer or possibility to shoot from a floating boat towards the beach and get stable shots even if the sea is not quite? Until now I used in similar situations a hand held camera and balance the movement with my body. In this film I am afraid it will not be enough. Thanks Michael Shubitz Israel
  10. Hi I am working the last five years only with Digital Betacam DVW 709 and the 790.Of course there is a lot of knowledge I gained about the possibilities the setup card gives but all I know is a result of tests and experiments I have done. Is there any literature summing up all the possibilities? Very often I find myself in a situation where light, colors, contrast ect are not satisfying and I need a kind of a book with me that will shortcut the way to the wishful results. Thanks Michael Shubitz
