Saw Superman Returns last night ,with my kids , 17 girl and 15 boy both wanted to leave halfway through, dont blame them ,felt sameway ,what a let down . Some people were leaving before the end . Anyone know why this $250 digital Panavision has not a DLP cinema showing this side of the pond ? john.

Titanic was shot Super 35 , and yes is a blow up and shouldnt be included . john.

Just used ones eyes and normally shot wide open depending on how bright the city scape was . john.

Ben Hur and Lawrence of Arabia have best Intermissions when shown in 70mm, cinema lights go down and intro music is played , before picture appears , in fact there are loads of [ Road Show ] movies like that , when i was a kid .

Hi , dont know if anyone here has seen the dvd of " Catch 22" . If you listen to the conversation between Mike Nicols and Stephen Soderberg , its mostly on Soderbergs part about the cinematography of David Watkin , keeps wanting to talk about the images , and to be fair Nicols to he is pretty stunned , but at one point during the movie , the bombing of the base at night , can just about contain himself and says Watkin is the father of modern colour cinematography , and he is so right . This film was shown here a couple of weeks ago on tv, i had seen it before , the effects were just about what i would expect in 1979 ,from a bunch of old school visual effects people , but there is no excuse for the really bad ,cinematography , the pits . john holland .

On a sunday morning in what ever year " Far and Away" was released , went to "Special Kodak Preview " at the Empire Square , Kodak and Panavision with the new 65mm cameras ,were really trying to push shooting 65mm again { i am all for that } But it just didnt look Super Panavision . I think neg had gone through so many dupes , well looked to me like an anamorphic blow up , in fact have seen a lot better blow ups . ie Raiders of the Lost Ark . same screen , same theater. john holland .

I think the test we did , was end 1975 , Kodak kept working on the stock and and developing probs. and did get it right eventually , so by 1977 , think thats about year " A Bridge to Far " was made it was a lot better. That film is one of my all time favorite photographed movies , very bold i think to use that amount of fog filters on a war film . I must get my set of Harrison and Harrison double fogs from the loft and see how they look now. john holland .

Yes and there was a load of problems with 5247 and ECN 2 , the process was pretty awful , think we called it a red /green flash over , red skin tones , green shadows . I did some tests with David Watkin ,prior to the shooting of Robin and Marion, he wasnt a happy bunny , think that is main reason for shooting so many of his pictures on Agfa XT . Geoff. Unsworth ,felt the same but stuck with Kodak. 5254 was a beautiful stock and the slower ECN 1 process . john holland.

He means a frame what ever size to shoot a lamp through , to diffuse , this term goes back donkies years , when only form of serious diffusion ,was tracing paper , only problem , if the light source was to close to trace , did tend to burn , or if lucky just turn brown . john .
