  1. There's a nifty little tool out there created just for that purpose. I've seen them on Super-8 enthusiasts' websites, but haven't been able to track one down myself. They were available in a kit for home processing. Good luck!
  2. How did you achieve this? Was it intentional/kharma?
  3. No, I don't have a list. Limbaugh did not get an "advance" copy. He watched it along with everyone else at the screening and received a copy afterwards that he could watch using his closed captioning. And if I read the article correctly, (I need to find it again), the Clintons were invited... Agreed. And I would never advocate pulling a program no matter what. If you don't like the content, just don't watch. I think it's pretty simple.
  4. Now who is giving out misinformation??? This was screened by people from both sides of the aisle in Washington... http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/sit...view.guest.html http://abc.go.com/movies/thepathto911/index.html It's simply stunning to think that as this fall's election approaches, a major television network would devote six hours of prime-time programming to air such a slanted and inaccurate program. Sheesh... "Docu-drama says it all..." If you remember these self same conservatives forced to pulling of CBS? mini series on Reagan because they didn?t feel it presented Reagan in a positive light. Wrong again. They didn't pull it. It went to another channel - Showtime. http://talkleft.com/new_archives/004376.html
  5. From the Super8Wiki page... Not sure if I agree with the posted 18fps since sound is usually at 24fps... http://super8wiki.com/index.php/Bell_and_H...5_XL_Filmosonic
  6. I hope you don't mind a student response to this question. I read lots of history and English literature. I have also been a docent at our local museum. This experience really opened by eyes to light, color, and composition. The reading stimpulates imagery in my mind, but since I can't draw or paint, I decided to create images through film. A friend of mine recently turned me on to The Artist's Way. I think it is a fascinating book on the connection between creativity and our spiritual selves.
  7. I was told the handle had to be in the locked position so the batteries were grounded. Glad to know that ain't so! Thanks for the tip. I will clean-up the contacts. Maybe I have a short in a wire somewhere.
  8. I just picked up a wonderful looking Nikon 8x Super Zoom at a yard sale - no dents, scratches, or visible wear of anykind. Lens is perfect. Original manual with warranty card that doesn't even have a crease. However, it doesn't seem to power-up. I have loaded the batteries (checking for polarity) and put the handle in the locked position. Nothing. <_< Does anyone have suggestions for tracking down the problem before I try to locate a repair shop? Thanks for your help!
  9. Gareth, I think these are really good. I am also a student. I have a project this fall and I plan to use B&W as well. From your stills, I think tri-x will work for me as well. I do have one question, have you tried day-for-night with tri-x?
  10. The following link takes you to Canon's website where they have a picture and technical info on all their Super 8 cameras. Hope this helps with your identification. http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/camera/cine/f_index.html
  11. On the Canon 1014 Electronic, you can lock the Variable Control Ring at either 2 (1/2) or 4 (1/4) which is confirmed by the Shutter Angle Scale in the Viewfinder. Question: If you rotate the Control Ring at a space other than 2 or 4, which cannot be locked, but is confirmed in the Viewfinder by the Scale, have you truly altered the shutter angle? What happens if you do not adjust the Exposure Scale Switch (Open, 2, or 4) along with the change in shutter angle? Would it be best to compensate for exposure by setting manually and ignoring the Exposure Scale Switch? I realize the answer may be "It depends on what look you want" but I thought I would see the responses to gage if my "understanding" of the aperature/angle correlation is correct or not. Thanks for helping a student!
  12. I am definatley learning a lot from this forum! I have my eye out for other cameras for the future. But for the time being, my student budget rules.
  13. Thanks for all the information! The "film" school seems to be so geared around digital that this is only the second time I have worked with real film and I'm excited about the opportunity. Thanks again! :D
  14. I actually have two others I bought years ago, a Bolex 581 and a "point and shoot" Bell and Howell. I have an experimental film class this fall and I wanted one of the other three for the project. I have read they have great lenses, manual override for the light meter, and can read all films. I'm open to other cameras, just not at this moment for the project. I'm in Dallas, Texas and I am not aware of anyone who services them here. I need to find that out. Thanks for the info!
  15. I am open to repair shop suggestions as well. Lord knows I have plenty that needs fixin' (as we say here in the south)
  16. I am tired of trying to find something on eBay that is of decent quality. I know these cameras are over 20 years old, but still, you would think a basic all around decent camera is out there that actually works when the seller says it works. I've narrowed my searches to only two or three brands of cameras (Canon, Nikon, Nizo), I make sure the seller has a decent return policy, and I review their feedback. Yet, I am still getting burned. I appreciate suggestions on other ways to find good equipment at a fair price. (sorry for the rant)
  17. These following Lowel kits looked good??? - Lowel DV Creator 1 Kit; TO GO 98 Kit; Elemental Kit
  18. Hmmm... I'm not sure then. I bought it for an experimental project with Tri-X B&W (day for night/dusk for night). Do you think it will still be a problem?
  19. I second the Malkiewic book. I purchased one from a used book store before I enrolled in film school, and it has helped me much more than some instructors!
  20. I just purchased what I thought was a Canon 814 XL Electronic, but when the package arrived it contained a Canon 814 Electronic. Should I raise a stink and try to get my money back or is everything "ok?" I spent $120.00
