  1. Someone told me that you cannot run fcp7 on new macs. is this true? Im a much better editor on fcp7 and its hard for me to change. If there is any way of doing this. Let me know! Cristan
  2. I am Shooting a rock band video and I am trying to see how this artist pulled off the dimming in and out of the two back lights used at 1:50 in this music video Also I am wondering what sources these might be and how they rigged up two of them to dim in and out at the same time. I am trying to do the same thing but instead of just back light hitting the artist i want it to reveal and fade away the remains members of the band. i think this look is cool so i want try and throw my own style on it. Anyone know what source this could be and how they rigged them up? Thanks!!!! Cristian
  3. Some buddies and I just recently heard of a contest hosted by Rode microphones. The down side to it was the deadline was in 4 days from when we found out. So we threw together a short 4 page script and shot it and edited before the deadline. It didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it. I shot most of it and directed the film. The part that got us, was we did not have enough time to color correct and mix sound properly. Which is very important but simply we did not have enough time. Overall it was a cool test to see what I can produce with very minimal equipment with just friends as crew and cast. Its always fun to shoot with your buds though, i just wish I had more time to do things. There were times in the film when it was just me and the actors. The contest also required a behind the scenes video showcasing Rode Mic's. If you want to check out the BTS video, its pretty funny(bad Language tho!) Here is the Film! BTS PS. You can help me out tremendously and vote for the film HERE!!!!! http://www.rodemic.com/myrodereel/watch/1154 Thanks guys! Cristian
  4. These are some of the projects I shot from 2012-2013 in my final years of high school. It might look a little repetitive looking but that is because the films I shot happened to use a lot of the same actors. Tell me what you think, advice needed! https://vimeo.com/69437525 Sorry about the aspect ratio Mess-up! Cristian,
  5. Thanks Phil, I shot on the canon T2i with some ND for my 50mm, and a 17-50mm with no ND. For exposure, I just watched the built-in light meter on the camera and underexposed slightly, and set my my ISO around 400. For my shutter speeds, I did shoot at a higher shutter speed, but after shooting I realized I could have gone higher. thanks for the Reply Phil!
  6. Hey all, For my advanced video program at my high school we put on a daily news cast for the morning announcements that broadcasts to the school... On our first couple of shows we present our crew of that year in a short opening video. As my senior year it was my turn to be incharge of filming it. We shot it at Venice beach, California. But during the whole shoot I was getting hassled to be quicker because I was only given an hour and a half to film the entire project which only gave about to ten minutes for everyone's little segment. The people in the program also focus more on "just getting it done" rather than taking a little more time to make it look better. I was only aloud to shoot with the Tri-pod and the camera nothing else, not even a small reflector because my teacher was worried about permits. But in the end I was able to get it done, some of the effects are a little warpy because it was our first time working with super slow motion shots, and the color is a little off from exporting it quickly but you get the point... Tell me what you think! Thanks for reading, Cristian
  7. My high school just got back from dallas for a film competition and this is one of the projects we made out there. We had 16 hours to write produce and edit a short and had to use a specific prop. This is ungraded because there was simply no time, but I would love to get some feed back on my shooting. Keep in mind that I had very little time to light, and compose my shots. But I would like to know basically if I'm heading on a good track on becoming a cinematographer. Thanks, Cristian http://vimeo.com/39320165
  8. Hey guys, so I recently bought the Marshall 5 inch V-LCD50-HDMI to use with my t2i... But when I connect the HDMI cables and turn everything on it still says no final on the monitor... But one time my feed came through and everything worked well. But that was only once and the rest never worked... Help please thanks, Cristian
  9. This is a good video i enjoyed watching starring Dean Semler on firelight
  10. Hi all, I am 16 years old aspiring cinematographer based outside of L.A and I just finished my first reel ever. Its kind of like a double reel because on all of these projects I worked with the same director and we are kind of like partners so we just merged it together. All shot on DSLR's and no other formats :( Any feedback would be great thanks in advance
  11. Hey, I have been shooting digital for a while but my goal right now is to shoot some super16. But as a beginner to shooting on a film format, I need some pointers on stock, loading, processing, exposing, and a light meter to get. Also on a camera to get. I am thinking of getting a k-3 or a bolex. any suggestions on which camera to purchase? So if anyone has suggstions on how to start shooting on film would be great! Thanks in advance. Cristian
  12. Hey, I was wondering what are some of the best techniques and steps on cleaning lenses. What tools to be used, what to do and what not to do, and the techniques when actually cleaning the front elements of the lens. I have heard of many different techniques but some are very different from others, Thank you for you Time!
  13. Thanks Toby That is something I have never really thought about and is a great idea for me to do. Thanks a lot Cristian
  14. Thanks a lot Paul! this really helped me a lot... And Just recently I had a music video shoot where I rented out an arri light kit with some grip and electric stuff. I really felt i was learning by doing during this project. I actually got to shape the light and use it in a great way. I experimented with gels and diffusion on this also. And since I do live out in L.A and my dad is a Grip for some High budget movies like Green Lantern for example, he would let me watch then do what they do. And thank you so much for that video you posted. I love watching these types of video's. I have basically scoped out all of youtube and vimeo for interviews with great DP's. And I am excited that i have been meeting DP's lately and they are inviting me on shoots to be something then a PA! thankyou cristian
  15. Hey all, When I first started color grading my footage I would just start messing around in FCP's Color corrector till it looked better then raw. But now that I have been doing higher budget stuff for actual clients I want to learn true color correction. So where do I go from here? Where can I learn the fundamentals for Color Correction. Like what to look for when color grading, like skin tones, highlights etc. oh and now i use apple color thanks, Cristian
  16. Hey all I am a 16 year old filmer who dreams of becoming a cinematographer in the future... I have been working on films for about a year and a half and have met some really cool people through out my time... I have worked on 11 projects so for mainly being shorts, a PSA, Music videos, and cover videos. Recently i have been working with youtube musicians on cover videos and music videos. Mostly all of them i have DP'd myself and directed one music video. Plus two "higher" budget music videos as a PA and AC on the RED. I am having a blast so far in the filmmaking community and enjoy every minute of IT! (except the stress)hahah But all of the projects I have done, my lighting has not been the greatest it can be and i really need some pointers on the way to look at a location and figure out how to light it. I know it takes a lot of practice and experience but i was wondering if there are some little gold nuggets of information to help me out. And since i have been doing some paying jobs lately I want to buy some lights to practice with on future projects. But i just dont know what to pick. Since I have a nice little dslr package going i really want to get my lighting set up higher up. So let me know if you have some INFO for me!
  17. thanks for the website brian... And i have seen those awesome Shane Hurlbut behind the scenes Video's... there really cool, and i watch them over and ever again!

  19. Thank you so much! We did not have much time to get ready for this project... In the black and white shots, the director wanted it to have a handheld shaky feel, same with the clu... But i see what your saying, And the spots we filmed were not picked by me but the director... thanks for your advice and hopefully you will enjoy my future work! thank you! Cristian
  20. Thanks Mr. Mullen! I have been wondering for that piece of information for awhile. The ASC is a big dream of mine... And may i ask, were you the DP of "jennifer's body"? thanks a lot! Cristian
  21. Hi, I was just wondering how to get into the ASC... Is it have to do with college or just straight skill? I would love to know this thanks, Cristian
  22. Hi, This is the first PSA i have ever shot... A club at my high school wanted this to air on its television network so a director asked me too shoot it. I was very excited for this opportunity. I am 15 and i shot it on my t2i... Let me know what you think! thanks for your time
  23. Im fifteen also and i have a the canon rebel t2i with a rod support and the D|Focus follow focus V3. I love the thing and it gives me a really great feel. I just started with the t2i with the kit lens and a 50mm 1.8. After a while shooting you can notice the things you need and I knew that i needed a follow focus and a set of ND filters for outside shooting. For Nd, a great thing is a NDfader. It has variable stops so you dont have to waste money and time switching them out. So yeah, in camera's the t2i, and 60d are good.I like the 60d cuz of its flip out screen which the t2i doesnt. They have 18 megapixels and shoots full hd in 24 and 60 frames per second for slow motion. DSLRS take time to get used , especially for young ones like us. But after you learn it, its just great to shoot with! Its also cool because there are loads of things on the internet about these new dslrs that you can check out and learn from. On youtube there is Jared Abrahms cinema5d which takes you on set with dslrs and new gear for these cameras. Tony reale has a series on youtube called HDSLR 101 which is free and you can also purchase for a sooner arrival. It teaches you the basics of what you need and how to set up your camera. Than you can also watch interviews with great Dp's that shoot on DSLR's like shane hurlbut, Philip Bloom and Rodney charters. But if for some reason DSLRs are not what your looking for, the canon HV(20)(30) series look good and cheap. But i think they take tape which can be a pain at times. GOODLUCK ON YOUR CHOICE!
