  1. Thanks Brian. Yep, I thought so... But thanks for clarifying anyway. Hopefully they will make adapter for the Vario Lens. I'm divided if worths selling the whole set (Bolex EL+Vario Lens) as the body only might decrease the price a lot. I'm thinking to buy another Zeiss DSLR Lens to use in the BMCC Pocket. Not sure if the Zeiss Planar 85mm would actually produce images in a 16mm sensor without cropping much? Any ideas? Argh! its so frustrating to decide these things...
  2. I mean... Got confused... my lenses are the Arri ST and the Kern Vario that is a BAYO mount. So, that adaptor wouldn't work on it... I think? Before I sell I need to be sure that if I keep the Arri ST and the BAYO Kern Vario I could use them with the BMCC. But I don;t seem to find an adaptor online? BAYO to M4/3 and Arri ST to M4/3? Does they exist?
  3. Hi again will. Thanks once more. Yeah maybe sell everything (and keep one Arris S)... I do need the money but moreover, I want to make my gear work for me. Tired of seeing it in the cases... Since the lneses could be used in the BMCC Pocket, I'll keep them. The Bolexes I want to sell as I want to use my Arris too. And I need £400 to fix them. I still want to use the little camera at least in one of my films soon. Thanks, Flavio
  4. Hey WIll. Thanks for the advice(s). I'm not expert on mounts/adaptors... YOu mean PL MOUNT is the mount of the KERN VARIO (POE)? My lenses are Arri ST and POE. So I'm still quite confused of what to do... Names, names... Still need help, sorry! Yeah, my initial idea was actually to keep the lenses and AT LEAST one Arri S (as I have the Tobin Motor). It's not that I actually need the money... It's more that I'm evaluating my future and of my equipment and maybe as it might become obsolete (for me) But one of the Arris will stay! :P I'd like keep all the lenses though SINCE I could use the lenses with the BMCC Pocket. And maybe with the money of the selling I might invest in a BMCC 4K in the future. Then yes, it worth renting Zeiss Primes lenses and shooting a feature next year. Thanks!
  5. Hello everybody. I'm really into a difficult time just by thinking on selling my 16mm equipment. I need to sell one or 2 of my 16mm cameras, and I need your opinion at this moment as it might help me to take a decision. The gear: 1 Bolex EL + Kern Vario 16-100 POE + 2 MAGs + TakeUp Motor+ original Battery recelled by Chambless in USA (3X more battery time) 1 Bolex Rex 5 (Ultra and service by Bernie O'Doherty) + 10mm, 16mm and 25mm RX Kern Paillard Lenses 2 Arri 16s + 4 Mags + Kinopitik Tegea 5.7mm Lens + Schneider 10mm and 16mm Lens + Tobin TXM 22a Crystal Motor + 4 mags + 4 take up motors (one 12V and 3 8V) I honestly think it's a lot of equipment and I won't use all of it (of course). I've used the Bolex cameras already but not the Arris as they need fixing that would cost me £400... And I really want to use the Arriflex cams in the near future. The thing is... I'm acquiring a BMC pocket version, to partly move to digital, and still be able to use some of my 16mm lenses on it. SO... My initial idea is: Sell both Bolex setups BUT keep only the Kern Vario 16-100 to use in the BMC (if there's a way of using it, not sure if an adapter exists?). AND... keep Both Arri 16s and pay for the fixing... That would suffice my 16mm film needs(although quite noisy the cams can be silenced). This way I can have some money, buy some other gear/lenses I need like a new tripod, a jib, etc and move on. What would you guys do? And to sell, apart from eBay on your experience, would it be best to announce in here in Cinematography.com and try to get the best deal by serious buyers? Please help! Thanks! F
  6. Hey all. Been a while I don't come in here. Hope to find all in good spirits. It happens that now I'm having this moment... I ordered my BMC pocket camera, and have some 16mm lenses that I'd like to use with it when it arrives. I'll list them here, and hopefully you guys could help by telling me what's worth to keep, or sell.... And I will sell my Bolex Rex 5 (Ultra by Bernie) and the 16mmEL. I'd love to keep the lens that could be POSSIBLE to use with the BMC Pocket Camera (as it's S16mm, so there's the FOV issue). I believe most lenses under 25mm in the 16mm "family" would cause vignetting in a S16mm camera (although there's a post in here that says it's controversial in the case of the Vario Switar). I'd love to keep the Vario Zoom Lens, but is a Bayo Mount, so not sure if would fit the BMC with an adaptor? And in that case, which are the adaptors/brands I should buy for the lens below that would actually FIT on a BMC Pocket Camera? Bolex family: Kern VARIO-SWITAR 1:19 F=16-100 MM POE Kern-Paillard Switar 10mm/1.6 H16 RX C Mount Kern-Paillard Switar 16mm H16 RX C Mount Kern-Paillard Switar 25mm H16 RX C Mount Arri 16st family: Kinoptik Tegea 5.7mm f1.8 Arri ST mount Schneider-Kreuznach Arriflex-Cinegon 16mm f1.4 Schneider Cinegon 10mm f1.8 Please help! :D
  7. Hello all. Cinematographer here, looking for a good piece of SOund kit. Came acroos with the ME 66 as a affordable/reliable mic for interview recording and all purpose sound recorder: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-ME-66-Microphone-matte/dp/B0002B0PVQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1366410522&sr=1-2&keywords=Sennheiser+ME+66 There's the ME 67 as well... And many others. But my question is... Which would be a great piece to invest (£100 more or less makes no difference). And what is actually the POWERING MODULE, Is it necessary/should I but it as well to use in a production/interviews in a documentary? I would have a sound recordist anywa, but instead of paying rent for the equipment, I'd rather buy one that could be a pro equipment still, not necessarily the best around, but anything closer is fine. Thanks, Flavio
  8. Hey guys. Yeshhh! I'm about to order mine. But first, dumb question for some.... Trying to figure out the possibilities using STANDARD 16mm Lenses. There's a limit, I know. But I wonder in this S16 sensor of the pocket camera, what would be the widest 16mm could be used on this little wonder? Also, would be possible to use an adapter for the Arri ST Lens on it? Thanks!
  9. Hello good people at Cinematography.com Been quite a while I don't pop here. Have shot my first ever (experimental) short last year, great experience! And it got selected for the Cornwall Film Festival 2012 here in UK (yay!). I shot using my beloved Bolex 16mm EL. And, sadly, it became a time to sell it, and invest on my Arri 16s equipment that is becoming dusted. I came to ask, any references/sites of prices for a Bolex EL 16mm (late model) + 2 Mags, + Kern Swittar Lens 10-100 POE, cables + Charger + RECELLED original battery. It's quite hard even to start thinking of selling it, but Im pushing myself (mostly because my first film ever was shot using her). But anyway, if any of you could help, please do. I want to do this as quick as possible before I change my mind. :) Thanks, guys! F
  10. Happy to find this post. Seems gr8 news. BMD is surely taking over the Indies market. And hopefully they will manage an affordable scanner for 16mm film. I own some 16mm cameras and llenses. Still thinking to acquire a BMC when they launch next model. I believe in the importance of both film and digital. And honestly a bit sick of all this DSLR mas****ation that is going over and over. Time to change the game and make Nikon and Canon rethink their strategy. And prices.
  11. Ok... SO... Vintage PL mount prime lens would not cover the sensor? I have a wonderful PL Kinoptik 5.7mm Afraid that won't work in a a BMCC? THe others I have are PL 16mm and 25mm Schneider lens. Am still wondering if the BMCC worths to buy anyway...
  12. Or yet... THe D600 that still shoots HD at 24fps, 25fps and 30fps (lacking only 60 fps)?
  13. HI all. It's ben a while I'm not around. Both for sure great cameras... But hard very much to decided which to buy watching VIDEOS that used different ligh conditions, and especially DIFFERENT LENSES! I loved the result in the video of CANON 5D MKIII. But the lens used, anyone has any clue? The video of Nikon D800 has a very different light condition (URBAN, GREYSH, etc), than the video of CANON (RURAL, NATURE, and being in FRANCE, using different lenses, everything changes of course). I' selling my D7000 and deciding which one to go for as there's the limit of using different FPS and lack of 25FPS (as I'm in EUROPE). But also cause the D700 has NOT a full-frame sensor! Anyway, what I'd like to add with my post here is: Should we even consider instead of either Canon or Nikon, the BLACK MAGIC camera??? Of course it's not a DSLR, but IF the intention here is to discuss VIDEO QUALITY X PRICE X HD VS 2.5K... Would it worth buying for U$ 3K??? in considering investing in such cameras for VIDEO, I'd always try to get the best LENSES to use with my BODY, before anything. SO.... a professional videographer decision, I'd go rent some Zeiss CP2 lenses that I always considered, for cinematic quality on producing Documentaries, Short Dramas, etc... OR maybe start buying some Zeiss Primes EF, that still could be used for both Video and Professional Photography? What are your thoughts after the release of Black Magic in comparison with the DSLRs?
  14. Have to sell my little baby. For those in London who might be interested... http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/carl-zeiss-makro-planar-t-85mm-f14-zf2-nikon-mount-tiffen-filter-for-free/106378073
  15. Hi. I'm looking for a C Mount to F Mount ADAPTER... Need it for tomorrow, so have to find someone in UK. Tried eBay,there's one that sells a cheap one, but did not reply to my email. Anyone can help, PLEASEY? Ta, F
  16. Hey everybody. Sorry if it's a repeated post. But I didnt find the answer in Forum. I Shot my first short on a Bolex 16mm EL, using a Kern Swittar 10-100 POE lens, stock Fuji, Telecine HD 1080p 24fps. Result was not bad for a first-timer. I wanted to crop to 1.85:1 later, so framed quite well. BUT... For some adjustments on Post, one shot I had to use the BALANCE option, and that's when my problem started. It "moves" top and bottom after I apply the filter, as it has a LETTERBOX. My question: Is there any difference on cropping at Telecine Lab, or getting the STANDARD 16mm and crop myself? I could choose better framings, that's and advantage for sure. But I heard in a forum a guy saying you always go better cropping in the LAB, even with Letterbox, than cropping in FCp for exampe. Something related to the image that "ZOOMS" an you get more grain, etc. I just wanted to know to next time do it better than it is. Also, for cropping, the lab wouldn't do 16:9... Shame. What would be another option to crop that could be less wide, close to 16:9? Any tips, helps to get better results in 16mm Film would be great! Thanks, Flavio
  17. Hi all. I'll be shooting a short film soon. An need advice on rights related questions. In my script there's a couple on a cafe, and their V.O. are random dialogues from 2 books, published more than a century ago, classic romances. In the end of film you realize the actors are reading, not "thinking".. But the passages are not clearly identified with names, characters or anything from the books. I'd like to know if I would be able to make "fair use" of these passages, since they're not staging anything related to the matter of their words, or either from the book. Any help or advice very much appreciated. Flavio
  18. Hi all. I'll be shooting a short film soon. An need advice on rights related questions. In my script there's a couple on a cafe, and their V.O. are the dialogues of this short. And i mentioned credit on the end. But the passages and dialogues are from 2 books published more than a century ago, classic romances. The passages are not clearly identified with names, characters or anything from the books. Except simple dialogues. Anyway, I'd like to know if I would be able to make "fair use" of these passages, since they're not staging anything related to the matter of either book. Any help or advice very much appreciated. 19. Hi everybody. Next week I'll be shooting my first short film. Looking into casting now. The situation: Interior of a cafe, series of CU and MCU of 2 actors seated in a table. V.O. only, no dialogues, of passages from 2 books from Virginia Woolf and D.H. Lawrence. To spoil the end of the film, they would be seated in different tables reading each a book, in between other people and tables n a cafe. I need help with the LIGHTING! To find the most simple/interesting + affordable way to get the lights on location. Brands, X Places for location in London/UK. I am considering buy if there's a cheap and portable kit that would do well (the money will come all from my pocket. Ugh!) So... thought to pop up asking for some help! And any suggestions on the LIGHTING SETUP as I'm on it now and have this weekend to take all the decisions. Any way to make it interesting, intimate, we hear only actors thoughts... Any ideas? Shooting with a Bolex EL 16mm, 400' magazine. Stock ETERNA VIVID 160T (or any suggestions?). Thanks everybody! Wish me luck! Flavio
  20. Hi Tom. Thanks a lot for the reply. I was thinking also about that. My intention is to first make movies to be in Theater. Of course for documentaries is more likely to go to TV, but yet, if could make a difference on a big screen, I beleive I should keep on with the Zeiss. I also knew about the cinematic effect in post. Actually was thinking that using Zeiss lens, it would be best to add a cinematic look in post instead of using 'cine adapters' that even the cheapest available could cost the price of two Zeiss primes. I really love the Zeiss look and think they worth the money. I'm actually divided. I can invest on them, step by step... Buying good nikon lens still would cost something significant. What would you do in my case? Thanks for your help, Flavio
  21. Hi all. I've read similar posts, but couldn't find one specifically on this. I've bought a Nikon D7000. Great camera for DSLR Still & Video at 24p. I also bought the wonderful Zeiss Planar T* F1.4 85mm ZF.2. And next I'm intending to buy another two Zeiss of the same family, the 35mm and the 18mm. My intention is to have a great gear to cover both still and Documentary video, with a "cinematic" look (maybe using an adapter). I've read many reviews, people comment about the marvels of Zeiss and some claiming that good Nikon Primes would do the same. Some disagree when it comes to VIDEO, Zeiss surpasses in quality. Anyway, my question is: Should I continue with this "dream" Zeiss set, or... Buy cheaper lens for Still Photography (like Nikon Primes or maybe 2 sets of Nikon zooms lenses 18-50mm and a 50-200mm), and invest on the vintage (old) Zeiss primes specifically for filming? Or even choosing a different lens, (zoom?) Suggestions? Hard, I know, and I know it varies depending on the look every filmmaker looks. I just want to get the best of my money, and invest with what I can afford (I know about the Zeiss CP2, but can't afford). My goal is to be covered well in digital filming for documentaries with a cinematic look. * I also have two sets of 16mm Bolex and 2 Arri 16s with Schneider lens that I would use for narrative filming.
  22. Hi Rodrigo. Thanks. Not late, thanks, but I have read more and about the Zeiss primes. I actually made a heavy investment and got a Carl Zeiss 85mm f/1.4 Planar T* 1.4/85. Awesome lens. It will be used for both Portrait Photography (my wife's jewelry) and Documentary Digital Filmmaking (maybe with a cine adapter). My thought is to get next month the Carl Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 Distagon T* 1.4/35, then I'd be covered for a while and in producing lovely images for documentary filmmaking. What are your thoughts about this idea? And would you choose another lens/brand (apart from the pro CP2) to be covered in DSLR filmmaking with a CINEMATIC look? What lens? I stil can return my Zeiss 85mm as I have time, I just got it. Then buy cheaper Nikon Primes and invest in a Zoom Lens that would give a cine look. Anyway, this is my drama now. I already have some 16mm film cameras and lenses that I'd use for my short narrative. But when doing documentaries, I'd use the DSLR, that's the idea. Only trying to get the best of it. Let me know your thoughts Flavio
  23. Hi all. Am starting on the DSLR video world, and have seen many manufacturers with indecent prices for gear, as you all might have (Zacuto, etc). I wonder what are the best/affordable manufacturers of gear around, apart from the famous glittering, rainbowny and expensive ones? I need to start with the MATTE BOX, I'm buying every month or so a Zeiss Prime (not the cinema ones), to use with my new Nikon D7000 (love it), setting up a lovely kit... So, I wonder what matte boxes/brand would fit well with it, that could have an "universal" adaptor for the lens? As well as the follow focus and other gear, etc. Believe its easy to choose a brand and stick to it until buy the bits of gear to mount a nice kit. Thanks, Flavio
  24. Thanks guys. Yeah... U know? You're both right. Why would I want to rewind it? :P Think that something was lost when I did my Bolex course... I remember we rewind the film to process it... But I don't remember why... Maybe just to show "how" to rewind. Anyway, thanks loads, very helpful. Dom, sorry I might be repetitive, but does that apply for the Rex-5 as well, I presume?
