  1. Hi all. Indeed quite confusing. But anyway, anybody has a definitive answer to that? I'm looking to test shooting with the same effect, so would be nice to know. Another thing... on the LIGHT METER L-398a... I was measuring light of a scene with the incident light... It happened that the light was too much so the meter put it to the maximum. I know I'm supposed to use the HIGH "lid" and read the HIGH stops... But that would work? Isn't it possible that I could still put too much light on the film? I don;t know the results cause I didn't process my film yet. Thanks, Flavio
  2. Hi all. I looked for info in the forum but didn't find... sorry if it was covered before: 1. How do I REWIND the 100' spool after finished? Is there any lever I have to disengage first? 2. How do I KNOW when the film finished (without using the footage meter)? I know that's the right thing to do, but when I loaded my Bolex, I forgot to "zero" the footage meter. :P (first-timers, tsc tsc) 3. If I stop filming for the day, and I still have film left to shoot, and yet, I still have "wind" in the camera, how do I "release" that winding WITHOUT shooting so I could release the cog's pressure and store the camera? Is there any lever/button to disengage so I could do that without actually shooting the film? Thanks in advance. Flavio
  3. Hi all. My Arri 16s Trigger SCREW (very very tiny screw) broke. :( SO, the trigger and part of the screw went out with it... Anyway, I need to know if that piece has a screw inside and how is set. Anyone has the Arri 16s SERVICE MANUAL? That would help a lot. Thanks, Flavio
  4. Hi Jerry Thanks a lot. So, you mean by "purchasing the film" actually "open and loading into camera"? I'd have no more than a month to end shooting? Then I have to send it to be processed... Just to be sure I got it right. ;) F
  5. I've loaded a 100ft spool of a Kodak B/W 100iso on my Bolex Rex 5 I used part of film for a shooting this weekend. But I still have around 50ft to use in about 2 weeks. My question is... HOW LONG can a 100ft spool stay inside a camera body and still be used without loosing its full capabilities? Thanks, Flavio
  6. Thanks, Ian. Actually, I'm ALREADY thinking about another camera. The first ones I have to shoot have no need to sound whatsoever. So that would be OK. Problem will be after the first shorts, then I'll want dialogue. And another camera. Let's see. Thanks, Flavio
  7. Hi again, guys. So, am still stuck on this. Any help? Need to know what to buy to convert the 8V motors to 12V. Seems quite simple, only soldering the right pieces in there. Need something to start, please. Every little helps. Thanks, Flavio
  8. Hi Michael. Can you give more details about your equipment? You said you bought a video tap for your BL? I have a 16s myself, and thinking about the possibilities. And about recording SOUND with an Arri S, or similars... How you guys do regarding the NOISE of the camera (in case you have to record sound in crystal mode, in close-up let's say you have to?). Thanks, Flavio
  9. Hi Robert.

    How's it going?

I was following some of your posts at cinematogrpahy.com about Ultra 16.

Have you started your scans/tests on your Y-FRONT yet? in 2K?

If your lab is really doing this, please let me know.

And also the prices, please (still didn't find a lab with a good price on Ultra, please make me a good price! As am in UK to send yo...

  10. Ciao Roberto!

    Come va?

Ho visto il tuo post in cinematography.com sulla conversione da una camera Bolex.

Hop pensato se fors tu sei capace da fare las stessa conversione in una Arri 16s?

    Mi fa sapere

    Grazie mille,

    Flavio

  11. Hey Ian! Thanks loads! have all the info I need.
  12. Hy Ian I'm probably going for this and this. Not that heavy. I've just asked Tobin about them. Waiting for a confirmation... What would be the main difference, if ANY, between the 4.5A and 5A? Only the SIZE/WEIGHT as you said? I believe this lead-acid battery above of 5A is basically the same size/weight of the 4.5A ones... Awesome help you're giving me, Ian. Thanks loads once more! Flavio
  13. Sorry! I mean IAN! :P Thanks anyway. My question was... For the LEAD ACID.... Should I use the 4.5AH or the 5AH with the Tobin TMX-22a? Or there's no difference? Thanks! Flavio
  14. Sorry! I mean IAN! :P Thanks anyway. My question was... Should I use the 4.5AH or the 5AH? Or there's no difference? Thanks! Flavio
  15. Only one quick question here: I've heard from Duall Camera in USA the Lead Acid can cause problems in Arriflex 16s. It's said the best options are the nicd ones... But anyway, am divided. I'd go for that one you listed above... But wouldn't be 5AH instead of this 4.5AH for the Arri 16s with the 12 Tobin Crystal Motor? Like THIS LEAD ACID 5AH? Please let me know, Doug! So I can order one Lead and test it... Whatever happens we'll see. I'm short of money anyway to spend more on these cameras now. Cheers, Flavio
  16. Hey Ian. Thanks loads, man. Very very clarifying. I believe I'll go for the NiCad cells. A bit more pricey, but with some small advantages. I only wonder where to buy in UK that same I sent on that link, that they sell in USA... I'll look on that links that you send if they do. Thanks loads, again! You rock!
  17. hey Ian.

    HOw's it going.

Am still looking for a cheap solution for my Arris 16s batteries.

    I've post this:

    http://www.cinematography.com/index.php?showtopic=4067

When you find a bit of time, could you please advise on something about it? Need to sort this out soon.

    Thanks loads, mate.

  18. Hi everybody! I just bought my L-398A Light meter from Amazon at 127 Sterlings. Good price I think. The only thing is that arrived with instructions manual in German :P I've requested Amazon about an Instructions manual in English. Although, with a quick online guide I was able to learn how to use it. Quite easy. Quite happy with it so far. haven;t tested it properly yet, with my cameras, but I'm sure it will be just fine. Thanks all for the tips! Flavio
  19. Hi Tim. Thanks. I'm actually not intending to use the Arri constant motor. I have a TMS 23a that is a variable speed motor. I'm still struggling with this battery problem. I really want to build one as I don't have the money to spend in a new one. I've found this 2 things, can you let me know if I could go for it and build one with these? http://www.batteryspace.com/nicdbatterypack12v5ahdx10forsolarpanelemergencylighting.aspx http://www.batteryspace.com/multi-currentuniversalsmartchargerfor96v-18vnimhbatterypackstamiyaplugullisted.aspx And whatever I'd need to use with my beloved Arri? Thanks, Flavio
  20. Hi all. Am thinking to buy the Sekonic L-398A Studio Deluxe III meter to use mostly on 16mm cinematography.... Although seems controversial if it is actually a cine or still light meter... At Sekonic website it's said favorite with cinematographers the world over. Am looking for one that I could afford and be great for the purpose. 16mm cinematography is what will be mainly used for. So I wonder if I could get some advice, if this would do well or would be better buy another? Thanks, Flavio
  21. OK... I believe this both can be a good solution. Please let me know your thoughts. http://www.batteryspace.com/nicdbatterypack12v5ahdx10forsolarpanelemergencylighting.aspx http://www.batteryspace.com/multi-currentuniversalsmartchargerfor96v-18vnimhbatterypackstamiyaplugullisted.aspx But I need to mount it together, with a female 4-pin connector (in my case, for my cable extension). Do any of ou know what else would I need? A led light, On/OFF button? Not sure where to find these, neither how to mount them, so any tips is precious now. Thanks, Flavio
  22. Sorry, I mean TM-23 I mean 16S, of course...
  23. Hey John. I have the same problem regarding batteries. Can you let us know exactly what models of batteries/charger can we use? I'm not savvy on electrical, so need help. I've found this one but not sure what amp, etc....? I'd need oen that could be compact, to use in shoulder with a strap... I'll be using a 12V motor and Mag Motor as well... Another thing... What do you mean by "not overspeed"? is there a limit of FPS to use the battery to don't burn the motor? I have a tobin TMS23-A variable speed. What would be the pros and cons to have a motor like this? Also, I've heard that acid batteries can cause problems in Arri 16d. And that the best is to use NiCad batteries.... Sorry so many questions. Just trying to get the thing done here.
