  1. Hi guys. Thanks loads. I prefer to believe that simply he has NO crystal controller. If he says it runs well at 24fps, means that the camera works at least... But in case he knows what he's doing (he is an expert in conversions in such cameras) and the camera DOES NOT CRYSTAL SYNC, that means the INTERNAL CRYSTAL UNIT is damaged. Being that for any reason, dso here I expect to get some ideas of what's going on... It could mean the camera will work fine on all velocities, but NO crystal-sync at all... Does make sense what I wrote?
  2. Hi Chris. Thanks loads for your answer. I'll try to get more info. But below is what he said: "the camera is not running crystal sync, which means that something's going on with the electronics. It's not something I would ever attempt to fix since the circuitry is so different from standard crystal circuitry in most other cameras, but it will matter if you intend to shoot crystal sync/lip sync. If you don't need the camera for that use, it will run close enough to 24fps like a mechanical Bolex, and I'll go ahead and check out the mags and torque motor when I have a chance."
  3. My Bolex EL is not running at crystal-sync. THe guy will repair and convert it to Ultra will not put his hands on it to fix as is much different from any other crystal-sync things... SO, end up with an AWESOME camera that will only work fine at 24fps... What to do? Does any of you knows who has Bolex parts.....? Don't want to buy an external motor, for money and usability reasons of this camera I intended too. Please, any help will be greatly appreciated... Thanks! Flavio
  4. GREAAAAAAAT!!! Sorry to bother you, Iain! That was what I was about to do it... but didn't want to "burn" a Tobin motor, camera, cables,... Imagine that happening... :P Thanks loads again, mate! Really much appreciated. Flavio
  5. Nooooooooooooooooooo............... (in slow motion without a TMS Crystal sync...) :o That's such a shame! Well, you never know if you change your mind... I still believe you make 100 they would sell in a flash! I could buy some 3 myself.:P Please, please let us know if you change your mind, ok? About the Crystal sync motors for Bolex you are manufacturing... I think you'd probably have one that works with a Bolex EL? Where can I see models and prices? I couldn't find yin your website...? Best of luck! Flavio
  6. SO... Bought 2 cables.. For $45 both only... Original Arri cables. :D ALL THE STUFF on Ian's list... Now I have 1 cable with with the back connection to the torque motor, and 1 with no back connection. I'm going to change the XLR END of both NOW! But just to confirm last time if I got this really STRAIGHT... Iain! if you are around, please... --> Luckly as you said, both ends have the indication + and - ... --> SO............................................... Is the + WIRE the one connects to the Pin 4? And the - WIRE is the one to pin 0? I think it is, but need to confirm! :S First timer! Argh!
  7. Hi all. I have two Arriflex 16s. Willing to convert them to Ultra 16. But in Europe nobody does in an Arri 16s. At least I couldn't find yet. There should be quite complicated and precise, but I'd try if I had the "right" tutorial on how to do it. Bigger problem is to re-align the viewfinder lenses... Ugh!
  8. Ian, the 6A cable I got from Maplin is kind of THIN. Almost twice as ticker than the original old arri cables. 2M 2-Core 6A Mains Cable 3182Y (The units on the website Would that be alright? Which would be a more safe (thicker than 6A) to build an EXTENSION? I'm afraid that is too thin to make a connection of 3M to use with the cables. It might heat too much). Thanks, Flavio
  9. SOrry, consider the last post. It was not refreshing and showing, so I did it again. :P
  10. Thanks a million. Is there anything else to help me soldering this cables I would need from Maplin? Tapes, connectors, etc, etc... ?

  13. Ok, wait. This is quite confusing.. The ones you put (quoted) are actually correct? So, for the CAMERA LEADS it has to end in to a MALE, is it? is this the MALE then? And This is the FEMALE? I got what you mean, in comparision to the "mains power", so that my lead END (XLR) has to be MALE to connect to a FEMALE PLUG in the BATTERY... Right? *Although I won't build any battery for now I want to make it STANDARD and be able to build on soon, OF COURSE! Please just confirm to me if what I put above is the MALE in the way you meant. So I can make a list and build the 2 cables... Then I'll go back to your posts about the battery. Thanks once more, Iain, and for your patience on help an amateur "electrician" here. :P
  14. Hi Ian. Thanks again. Yes, I know, I'm putting together all your posts to make sure I'll do this properly. ;) I bought two original Arri 16s cables. Then will solder the XLR tips on both (they have a mains plug inthe end of each). So, here's my list to buy on Maplin: 3X 4-Pin XLR-type Line Socket FEMALE 1X 4-Pin XLR-type Plug MALE 2M 2-Core 6A Mains Cable 3182Y (The units on the website I assume can only be METERS, isn't it?) 1X 30W Soldering Iron 1X Lead-Free Solder (2M) SO, the idea is to solder two XLR FEMALE connectors in the end of each cable. AND, make an EXTENSION CABLE of 2M with one FEMALE and one MALE XLR connector, then I can use a heavy battery on the floor, connecting with one of the existing cables. Any idea what I might be forgetting before I order this?
  15. Hi Charlie! Wow, thanks loads for all tips and clarifying. Will have to read some parts again to get all the picture though. :P YES, both my Arris 16s have two different size pins. One has the locker, other doesn't. My intent is to convert all to 12V. I have 4 mags. Will have to sort someone in UK to do it, but for a fair price. Short of money, just by buying both cameras I broke for 2 weeks. And still have to buy a WILD CRYSTAL MOTOR, but hard, hard to find a Tobin one... ANYWAY, it's life, ain't it? Still a long way to put them ON and READY. Will read all again and see my case how it goes. Have to find how to solder the right wire to the right XLR connector hole... Thanks, man! Flavio
  16. Thanks again Ian. Will wait the cables to arrive and try. Ok, so even changing it, that won't damage the Tobin motor... But what about the standard arri motor? I have one of this (8V) as well. :P
  17. I mean, how to (if I have to) find WHICH of the wires is which of the poles to connect where? :P Argh!
  18. Great, thanks loads Ian. Now will have one Cable that works to use the mags and the other that doesn't. Now, my question is... in oder to make this other end work.... To solder as you said in anotherpost, should I worry about WHICH WIRE of the cable to solder in WHICH terminal of the XLR?
  19. Ok, guys, thanks so far for all your help. I've managed to find TWO Arri 16s cables, that has one end to the MAINS (that big two pin mains...) THe seller told me that: Both cables fit into the body of the Arriflex S One cable has the back port for the Take-up motor. The other don't. BUT.. he couldn't answer me if he reckons I'd be able to stick an XLR on the end of both cables to stick them to my 12V battery. MY QUESTION: What do you guys think? Such cable would work? THey're both original Arri cables... And since goes to the mains (that is 2-core), I believe it woudl work well to stick to a BATTERY, wouldn't it? As the battery cable also is a 2-core cable? Any HELP, TIPS, ANYTHING would help me to decide if I buy them and risk to convert the cables. Thanks! Flavio
  20. Hi Charlie. It's really nice of you posting pics of your cable, thanks loads. Good news is that I'm in contact with a seller that has similar cables, but to stick on the MAINS. If they ARE the ones and connect to an Arri 16s, I'll buy them for a good price and then stick an XLR 4-PIN in the other side. And get two Arris 16s "original" cables! Ha! :D Wish me luck! Thanks, man! Flavio
  21. Hi WIll! My apologies. Looking the connection on my camera REALLY close (and with glasses) the 2 pin connector behing the camera are actually one ticker than the other. So. THe other guy that posted me his cable's pictures was actually the right cable. Anyway, thanks loads. In the search, will get there. Best, Flavio
  22. HI Will. Thanks for your answer. I'm trying to reach rental houses, etc. but none has them. Some still sell this for £75, but I think it's absurd. All I need is to find where to buy a similar plug liek that end... Then I can build one cable myself. Any idea of a similar plug on the market that I could buy?
  23. Hi Will Thanks loads. My cameras have that 2 pin in the back, but they're both SAME thickness. The belt battery doesn't not have a cable, that's the problem so I have no cable to try on it. The 2 pin plug in the back of the camera is a "rectangle" whole that has aprox. 26mm X 13mm, maybe 15mm deep... That makes it a bit different from another post I saw of a guy that showed me his cable in pictures, that had indeed female banana plugs of different tickness, What are you thinking about?
