  1. Hi, Here's a shot showing the old and new front ( as best I can ), I did consider getting the original front milled down , drilled etc but I didn't want to ruin it. As I never went ahead with this route I'm not 100 per cent sure it would work, but I think it could. best rob http://s1178.photobucket.com/albums/x379/robspence7/fitted%20hard%20front%20arri/
  2. ...and heres a nikon lens fitted. http://s1178.photobucket.com/albums/x379/robspence7/fitted%20hard%20front%20arri/
  3. Hi Tim No the FFD on this conversion is 46.5...designed for the Nikon. Here's a pic of the hard front fitted. The lenses focus all the way up. http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x379/robspence7/fitted%20hard%20front%20arri/IMG_2894.jpg cheers rob
  4. Hi Here are some images of the hard front. Any questions please ask. cheers rob http://s1178.photobucket.com/albums/x379/robspence7/
  5. Hi Gregory, I've just designed and had made a hardfront Nikon mount for my 2b. I had the plate made using my drawings at a local engineering shop...cost £60. I used a mount from a broken Nikon FE...£10...this bolts onto the new plate with thin bolts. And it works a treat...I can now use Nikon lenses and even convert it back to the old arri front if necessary. Saves a fortune in hiring lenses as I have my own Nikon set...I Haven't really looked into the 35-3 but they have very simple hard fronts which simply bolt on. It should be far easier than converting a 35-2b or c. As said you'll have to check that you wouldnt be fouling the mirror. Just do lots of measuring and go for it! cheers rob
  6. thanks Mitch, much appreciated
  7. Hi I'm sure this has been raised several times, but i've tried searching and found no suitable answer.... does anyone know a good substitute for arri 2b grease and oil? cheers rob

    Slo Mo Aaton

Hi I have an Aaton Ltr 54 (fitted with a later X motor by Ice Film ) ...is there any way I can get slower slo mo from it? cheers rob
  9. Thanks Dom I've checked the gate width and it is 44mm...I'm sure the shimming will work. I'll let you know after a film test best rob
  10. Thanks for the responses...the shimming route should work so I'll try that...I'm wondering why the gate has so much play in the camera, as a matter of interest are the gates customised to the camera from new. Or are arri 2b and c gates different...could I have a 2c gate? cheers rob
  11. Hi John thanks for the reply...I've found the problem. I took the gate out of the camera and hey presto no stiffness in the claw mechanism on its rotations at all. It seems the cardioid cam has been slightly hitting the gate semi circular cut out that is for cardioid cam clearance on the right hand side of the gate. Now the cause of this seems to be that the gate mechanism has a little play from side to side within the camera ... apparent when the gate retaining clip is removed ( held in by 2 screws ) . If I ease the gate towards the door side of the camera there is just enough clearance for the claw assembly to work fine, but when I replace the retaining clip the problem comes back. Any ideas on how to keep the gate fully to the door side of the camera? Or should I take a dremmel and ease the clearence on the cardioid semi circular cut out? By the way this camera has hardly ever been used and none of the parts are worn. best rob
  12. Hi I'm just checking my arri 2b over as I need to use it in the summer. I've noticed when I use the inching knob I meet a resistance just after when the claw goes into the claw recess...ie just when it would be starting to pull the film down . Is this normal.. Or should there be no resistance at all throughout the cycle ? best rob
  13. Hi I'm after an intermediate gear for an arri 2B or C ( I believe they are the same ). This is the gear wheel that goes between the arri motor drive gear and the camera driven gear. It can be seen when the arri motor is taken off and sits in a spindle. It has two ball bearing races set into it. I hope this description is of use! many thanks rob
  14. Hi try Les Bosher http://www.lesbosher.co.uk/ he does a PL mount and can also supply arri to PL lens adaptor...so it's entirely feasable best rob

  18. Hi I recently emailed P+S Technic to ask if they were going to produce a digimag for the Aaton...it seems not as yet, although I'm not sure why as there must be as many Aatons still out there as there are Arri SRs ? Here's their reply best rob Dear Mr. Spence Thank you very much for your email. We’re focusing on the development of a 16Digital SR Mag for the SR series only. Supporting other camera types with our mag isn’t planned as of yet. Please find further details below: The huge input and feedback that you gave us regarding our new 16 Digital Magazine has certainly encouraged us in our development. Many new ideas came up which we’re following now to make this product as good and versatile as possible. Now we’re glad to inform you about the specifications we can release already. Based on the experience we’ve made in the past, we’re designing the 16 Digital SR Magazine to turn your SR camera not only into a high quality HD camera but also into a high end digital film camera. This innovative step of combining Digital Film and High Definition Video in one camera was already successfully carried out with the Weisscam HS-2. Consequently we’re following this concept to expand your analogue film camera with those two digital formats. No other camera model on the market gives you the freedom of shooting digital film, HD Video and analogue film. You’re already signed in to our 16 Digital SR mailing list we set up to keep you updated with the ongoing development. If you don’t want to receive any further information about this product please reply with “unsubscribe 16D SR” in the subject header. Sensor: The sensor specifications are as follows: Pixel Size 5µm max. Resolution (HD-SDI) 1920x1080 Sensor Size @ HD Res. 9,6x5,4mm max. Resolution 1968x1108 Sensor Size @ max. Res. 9,84x5,54mm Sensitivity F11/2000lx Dynamic Range (linear mode) 60db/10-11 Blenden Exposure through Mirror Shutter Yes Constant Black Set Yes. With exterior located pixels on sensor According to the specifications above we’ll deliver the SR Digital Magazine with a full HD Sensor. Following the technological progress of sensors, P+ S Technik will also offer an upgrade to a Super16mm Sensor in future, once more saving the client’s investment. Operation: The input interface on the side of the mag will disappear and be replaced by an external device. iPhone owners will be happy to know that we’re also considering preparing an App, allowing you to operate the mag at a tip of the finger. Modification: No modification on your Arri SR cameras (I, II, III) is necessary. Only the film gate needs to be replaced by a film gate we’ll provide with the mag. You’ll always have the possibility to switch the film gates with easy, allowing you to once again, use 16mm film stock on your camera. Miscellaneous: We’re focusing on the development of a 16Digital SR Mag for the SR series only. Supporting other camera types with our mag isn’t planned as of yet. Delivery time is estimated summer 2010. As soon as we’ll have further announcements regarding the 16D SR Magazine I’ll let you know. Mit besten Grüßen / Best Regards, Simon Schleidt Technical Sales Representative
  19. Hi Phil, thanks for the confirmation ...I'll go ahead and get non ecc...I hear that ecc ram slows things down a little too cheers rob

  22. I'm after a wide angle for the Sony pd150, anyone got any thoughts...or have one for sale?
  23. Hi Chris, we use the canon 8-64mm zoom...and can't recommend it more highly, you can see some footage on www.bigness.co.uk...the canon was notably used on the running night scenes. I recently organised a showing on a big local cinema screen of some work which had only been transferred to digi beta ( ie not even HD ) and the footage quality was amazing...so needless to say shown on a TV it is spot on. We also showed footage from Mk1 superspeeds ...and again the quality was impeccable. Hope this is of some help. best rob spence
