  1. I'm trying to wrap my head around how colour temperatures work with film. I will be shooting some footage with the new Wittner Chrome 200D colour reversal, which is balanced for 5500 K. If I understand correctly, this is daylight temperature, and if shot on a sunny day the colours would look natural. I'd like to know how to manage colour temperatures to get the best image possible. Can anyone suggest a book or website which gives some practical explanations? Any tips or advice would also be great.
  2. Have sent some emails out to a few Singapore labs. If I could process the film in India that would be fantastic, thanks!
  3. 'Buffalo 66' by Vincent Gallo was shot on 35mm Ektachrome.
  4. I believe 'Claire's Knee' was shot on 35mm but I could be mistaken. Rohmer shot a lot of films on 16mm. His first film he shot on 35mm, 'La Collectionnuese', had a shooting ratio of less than 2 to 1. An astonishing accomplishment - it's a masterpiece. If you haven't seen it, or 'My Night at Maud's', do check them out.
  5. Are these topics archived somewhere? I can't seem to find them.
  6. I'm working on a feature film which I plan to shoot on 16mm in 4:3 ratio. I prefer this ratio as an artistic choice, and some of my favourite directors work mostly if not exclusively in 4:3 ratio; Ozu, Bresson, Rohmer, Mizoguchi...
  7. Haven't had any luck finding a lab in China processing colour reversal. I think I will personally bring the film to Germany for processing and scanning. I hear that shipping film stock is a bad idea because of the airport x-ray scans.
  8. I have plans to shoot on the Wittner Chrome 200D 16mm film stock in India, and had hoped to find a lab there that processed colour reversal, but so far no luck. I found a list of labs on Kodak's website but these labs only process negative film. The closest lab I could find is in Germany. I will process the film there, or in the US if I must. But first I thought I would ask here: does anyone know of a lab in India processing colour reversal?
  9. What are the technical possibilities of printing from one type of stock to another? For example: If an image is shot on a negative stock, and then printed onto the Tri-X reversal stock, what image qualities might one expect to see? Will the reversal stock qualities be present in the image? I have thought about shooting on the wittner colour reversal stock that has yet to be released (Rollei CR200 emulsion), printing the edited film to Tri-X, and then somehow merging the two images together to make a colour reversal image. The idea is to try to get an colour image closer to Ektachrome. Is this feasible?
  10. Any recommendations for a pro 16mm camera that would be suitable for this estar based stock?
  11. This is great news. Timoleon, do you know of a still photography stock that is made of the same emulsion? I'd like to have a look at it.
  12. I tried to purchase a large supply (48,000 ft of 16mm), but after various phone conversations and emails with a number of Kodak representative, I was told that they weren't taking any more orders for the stock.
  13. I might be getting my hands on some Ektachrome 100D, which I'd like to store for 6 months or more. Can anyone inform me how to optimally store this film; what temperature is ideal, potential hazards or other advice?
  14. What is an average film shooting ratio?
  15. I'm in British Columbia, Canada, Doug. Still looking around, I'll update here on my inquires.
  16. Are there any colour reversal 16mm stocks available now, or was ektachrome the last one?
  17. I have a few questions for some of you more advanced cinematographers. I've been saving up to make a feature film sometime next year and my dream has always been to shoot on... Kodak 100D 16mm film stock. So, this is very unfortunate news for me. I'm going to keep my eyes open for any more shipments of this film stock from Kodak in the next few months and if possible acquire enough for the entire production, which will be stored in a freezer. Do you think in 12 - 16 months time that it will still be possible to get such film developed if colour reversal is completely discontinued over the following months? Do you think this is a risky and silly idea? I really don't wish to use any other stock! Thank you, David
  18. Ok, I will breathe a sigh of relief for now. I will be shooting film this year, just saving up some money.
  19. What does the Kodak bankruptcy situation mean for the future of professional film? Will they cease to produce film or lower output? Will they discontinue certain stocks? I'm new to film and find the situation troubling. I'm hoping to shoot a film later this year on their 16 mm reversal film, should I be concerned about not acquiring this stock? David
  20. I'm interested in hearing your recommendations for zoom lenses. What lens do you like to use and why?
  21. Does anyone know a film lab in Montreal that processes 16mm colour reversal film? Much appreciated, David
  22. Is there an all-in-one: spot, incident and also colour meter? Thank you
  23. They take 35mm and cut it in half?
