  1. The second he replied it sounded like he couldn't stop talking about how good the company was again. And they probably didn't mention anything about the money after they read it on here. It's getting weird like how Jim from RED just popped on that other Thread about Philip Bloom, kinda creepy, just saying.
  2. Im sorry but I cant stand RED users stupid ideoology, dont get me wrong i like RED Cameras but there forum seems to be cultish, its now "cool" to own a RED, and there denial of use of upscalling is anoying it some how pulls of great quality but i mean compared to the alexa its not the same for example. scarlet vs c300
  3. Are you referring to this test http://vimeo.com/33452552
  4. thanks for the insightful info, I do like the RED camera but i certainly agree that it is no match for 35mm, especially with its Bayer pattern up scaling which no red user seems to acknowledge.
  5. thanks for the info, any labs anyone can recommend, It thinks its a Spirit, its just a one-light to DPX files

    35mm Lab fee

Hi I love film but I've never worked on it beyond super 8, so next year I'm thinking about shooting a short film on 35mm specifically super 35mm before film really dies off. Ive noticed abit of a fire sale going on with film atm. Anyways I'm just wondering how much Lab fee would be for around 2000ft and does the fact its super 35mm make a difference, also i got a quote for around $3000 for a 4k scan do you guys thinks that's a bit expensive for 2000ft and if your wondering why I need 4k, if its the last time I work with film i would like to get the most out of it other wise why really bother. I love film but lets face it, its dead and the RED camera's are amazing, almost equal.

  8. Film is awesome it has a look naturally about it that i think everyone can agree looks great and unique. Film does have a technical advantage in most areas over digital, something like 13 stops of latitude on a test chart for example. once digital looks like film then yes we would be closer but you need to factor in resolution, detail, dynamic range, contrast ratio and image bit depth as well. But the price of film/processing its really not worth it in the long run. I heard film prints alone cost $2 billion a year for studios. What about IMAX, they just started to really promote it?
  9. I think he said it all simple rule if your in America its 60Hz so shoot at 1/60 most PAL Countries it should all be 50Hz so stick to 1/50 unless something's changed it's 60 for US and 50 for Australia,UK, etc.
  10. I can understand your need for 24p I can't stand footage that is in any other frame rate. If you shoot 1080 progressive at 24fps, you would need to convert it by 3-2 pull-down to 1080i/30 If you shoot 24p it would be NTSC and PAL compatible as well. There is some troubles with converting 30i or 60p Please correct me if im wrong but there's not much difference between 30 or 29.97 its a TV thing where they drop like 2 frames a minute or technically skip over them, stick with 24fps then convert in post.
  11. I'm not sure what you mean by front on, Because you wouldn't want to shoot people front on it would be breaking the "rule of thirds", anyway your stuff looks good, I just would suggest working with the lighting a little more in each scene avoid dull, bland colors especially grey's, keep more positive color's also if you have the time you can color grade a bit to make it stand out tho for doco's I could see much point. Also I noticed with one of the videos you had allot of the people dead on, try putting them really slightly in on direction, people dont like the look of things strait on, also some shots were out of focus, but otherwise I really think you had some nice looking, great shot's. Just keep at it. you only learn through mistakes. Read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rule_of_thirds Ps. your lens can make a difference to your picture quality
  12. Hi I just joined this forum and really loving the knowledge this community has my first question is what is the real difference's between Kodak 52 stock I hear that 5219 is industry standard I think because of its very low grain and I know its replaced the 18. So what are the real difference between the rest like 07,13,01,30 and 85 I know that some are for day or tungsten but what can you expect from each, also was the 79 and 29 discontinued and were they taken over by a new one. This info would be much appreciated :)
