  1. Hello, It has been a while ....Hello everyone :) A little more than 12 years ago i underwent chemotheraphy and radio theraphy for a non hodking tumor in my chest, right in the midle of my lung. All went well, i had never problem with any kind of cancer anymore or issues related to this. This is what i tought... i was so wrong! At the 18th of October i suffered a serious Heart Attack as a result of a so called Dilated Cardiomyopathy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dilated_cardiomyopathy What happened? The chemo and radio theraphy 12 years ago obviously damaged the muscle of my left heart chamber causing is to "Deform". Because of this deformation my heart dangerously got bigger and the left heart champer started to pump less blood comming from my lung into my system. On the 18th october the whole thing collapsed and blod spilled back into my lungs. I slowly started to drown in my own blood. However i realized pretty fast something was wrong and reached hospital by time. I am not going into details but i spent 14 days in hospital, during this time i suffered 2 heart attacks, had surgery, and also suffered a mini stroke caused by a blood cloth during cardiac catheriasation. After 14 days i was transfered into a rehab center for people with a heart disease. I am happy to be back home now. Still very weak and unable to walk short to mid short distances but i am alive :D Randy

  4. the thing is, that cinematography is a craft,. an "art" and i know quiet a few "famous" guys such as Cort Fey who was responsible for LOST and now is the CP at "Under the Dome". the guys i know are all very good cinematographers but none of them likes to share their secret. at least not for free. what david does is not to be taken for granted! to have an ASC DP here who spends a significant amount of time to share his knowledge here is a huge treasure. ok, i went to filmschool, i learned a few things but i still consider myself very much as a "rookie". i know nothing! (ok not for the total beginner who does not even know what a camera is, for them i am the highly skilled professional). i read davids post very carefully. sometimes i search his artcles, hope to find technical stuff or hints how he did this or that. a few things i even have printed out on paper and read them when i am in bed. david is a great teacher. great guy. thank you david for everything and i think i can say that in the name of all of us. randy

  8. i recomend a guy here. he's a very reliable camera technician and mechanic. have a look at "Simon Wyss" He is the Man you need. regards randy
  9. the biggest issue for this camera is to find and replace the battery. i once wanted one of these cameras but most of them on ebay came without batteries. and it seemed hard to find a replacement.
  10. If i win in the lottery next week, i will do a full feature and of course i will then ask you to do it with me. On Film ^^ :-)
  11. Oooh James, Just shut up! Will ya? HA HA :-) Love you man. U just made my Day.
  12. A few Years back i went to Filmschool. We had classes in Cinematography - Directing as well as Cameratechnics. The Cameraclasses were 50% / 50% Digital and Film. I loved that, because it really gave me a neutral view on both, so i could decide without influence and pressure in which direction i want to go. And it was easy. I am walking the path of film for several reasons. The biggest one is probably the econonic one. A Videographer is quasi forced to "upgrade" his gear every couple years due to obsolete technics such as mediums as well as cameras. If we have a look how many different mediums we had in the past 5 years to store digital data, it really confuses me. Every year a new Camera. And every Camera or maybe every second one has a new storage thing built in. For the Videographer maybe not a big deal but the Guys in the Post will hate you if you bring a medium which was used 5 years ago. OK, now lets talk Camera. Uuuhh where to begin? Shall we talk the many different Formats? DV, XD...RAW... or other technical terms such as 4:2:2, 4k etc... what is all that? Do i need to know? No i dont! Know why? Because i am a Filmmaker. I am interested in terms like "exposure", "shutterspeed". I dont want to waste my time with all the digital terms. I'd rather use that time to shot some nice footage. On FILM. A medium that still holds the most "Data" and is not limmited to "full HD" or 4k whatsoever. I know i maybe sound rude and some professional videographers now start to be offended. I totally agree, when it comes to digital i am an Idiot. I do not know anything about Digital, RED Cameras, Alexas etc. But i dont need to. Simply because my World is Film. Another reason why i have choosen Film over Digital is the distinctive Look of Film. Film is just beautiful and relaxes me when i watch it. Digital doesn't necessarily look like crap but after 10 minutes of intense consumption, my eyes start to hurt or at least i feel not so relaxed like when i watch Film. Of course i respect every Cinematographer who works Digital. By no means this was meant offensive! It's just what I personally feel about Digital vs. Film With the upmost Respect Randy
  13. I fell i love with this: Such beautiful Images. Made with a Bolex 16mm. How did he achieve this "yellowish" in the film? I love it! Randy
  14. i would try to recell it? DIY if possible? depends how easy the batteries are accessible.
  15. to be fair, i do not like paypal either. it's a criminal bunch of gangsters and a monopol. i once lost nearly 3000$ due to a scam and they blocked my account for "suspicious activity". altought i was the vicitm. and since my creditcard is registered in their database i can not even open a new account. another issue is that they now stopped the guestaccounts option. one can not pay with a creditcard anymore without being forced to open an account. they used to allow people to process creditcard paymentds thru paypal without registration. so i am very limmited on ebay as well because most (99%) of the sellers ask for payment thru paypal.
  16. Aaaahhh..... This listing (150526489125) has been removed, or this item is not available.
  17. i am asking all of you with an ebay account to report this item as fraudulent. the more complaints they recieve from different users the more likely it is they take action. the seller also wont provide a serial number...
  18. i agree. a F65 for 7600$ is impossible. this camera cost how much? 60k, right? he has built up quiet a nice 100% feetback with 5$ items..... we should report this to ebay
  19. i think this is very suspicious? might be stolen property? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sony-F65-CineAlta-Digital-Motion-Picture-Camera-BODY-ONLY-/150526489125?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item230c13f225 what do you think? he does not want to use paypal and sells an F65 for this price? my alarm goes off!
  20. I'm just dreaming adrian but i got yout point. You know i was more thinking about those DP's who dont want to rent? (long term projects) People like philip bloom ? ( i know he doesn't like to rent as he think it's a hassle. he just wants to go out there and shot ) and i understand that. As for me, i dont like to rent as well. I want to own my equipment for simple reasons. lets say its a sunday morning, you just woke up and feel the need to get out there, up to the mountains nearby because you have an idea... ouch! you dont have a camera and the rentalshop is closed on sundays. just an idea. there are many reasons why i want to own. in my case i own my moviecam compact because i want to experiment, i want to learn how the camera works, i read this or that in the internet or i see new things on youtube which then leads me to: ooh...lets try this. And if i have to rent everytime that would surely anoy me sooner or later. back to the topic: i see all the sony cameras. awesome products. the F55, FS700, i once owned a HVR Z1 and i loved it. I just think a ARRI budget Porsche...uuhm i meant Camera would be really nice to have. Simply because an ARRI is not a Sony nor is it a Canon (C300) respectfully Randy :)
  21. The Amira looks nice and surely is a good camera but i dont get it? Another 20k + camera? Talking about "budget", and it is obvious they wanted to create a more "affordable" camera with some of the Alexa features? Or am i wrong here? Yes i am aware ARRI focuses on the professionals but i really wish they would create a camera for the enduser or the semipro who wants to step up from shooting with DSLR's but still can't afford a F55 or an Alexa or whatever 30k + camera it is. At this point i must say Blackmagic Design i a step ahead with their Cinema Pocked Camera altought its only full HD and very limmited otherwise. Something in the range of 5000$'ish dollars would be really, really good. 35mm sensor, 10 stops, PL or EF mount, 1fps to 100ftp (maybe even 500) a simple menue and thats it. It does not have to be 4k. full HD would be cool (for the end user) or maybe a 2k version. Just a camera I as enduser or semitpro can afford. I am sure just the Brand name "ARRI" itself would help a lot to sell such a camera.
  22. I dont think so. Brian meant full first and full lastname please. This is a Forum for professional Cinematographers. The Forum is related to Filmmaking, Directing, Cameras, Lighting etc. There is a section "super 8" but i am not sure if anyone can help you there. I think you'd have a better Chance if you're looking in a Super 8 Projector Forum. This is not meant as an offence! You're very welcome here if you use your full Name, follow the Rules and if your postings are about Cinematography. Respectfully Randy Tomlinson
  23. if your name is linked to your Facebook then chance your Name in Facebook and log in again. This might help
  24. hi dom, did you see this footage? its S16 with a K3 and i think its not that bad..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjqbR8IyWAg
  25. Hello, "I want to become a cameraman" is a wide term. can you define it please? Do you want to go with FILM or DIGITAL? Also a cameraman is not necessarily a cinematographer. Please be more specific what you want to do. Randy
