  1. Looking for feedback if anyone has time to watch. Thanks! - Hunter
  2. Hello cinematography.com friends! I just finished up my latest short film and I wanted to share it with you guys. Shot entirely on vision 3 super 8 stock (50D,500t) This was my first attempt at creating a narrative on actual film. The camera used was a Sankyo 40s xl and the process/2k scan was performed by Pro8mm in Burbank. Thanks! Happy New Years. - Hunter <iframe src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/197584631"width="640" height="486" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe>
  3. Does anyone know how this camera will expose 100d and 50d? It's new to me and I can't afford a test reel right now. Thanks! - Hunter
  4. I use a Opteka 5mm 0.3x fisheye on both of my super 8 cameras. Had to remove the lens guards because they showed up in my first test reel but I think it looks great and it's really wide with nice distortion. - Hunter
  5. I guess I'm gonna go with the color negative. I'm sure I'll find a use for my 100d one of these days! As far as airport x-ray, will I have to worry about the film being harmed? Thanks. - Hunter
  6. I'm going to be finishing on digital and shooting landscape as well as skateboarding. - Hunter
  7. I should have mentioned I'll be shooting super 8. I wish 16 was an option but the batteries plus repairing my batteries burned down with them inside it last week :/ I guess I'm just worried about getting much softer images with the reversal. Thanks Will! - Hunter
  8. The topic title says it all. Was hoping to get some opinions. I have a few reversal so I'd have to purchase the negative but I'm willing if I'd be getting much better results. Thanks! - Hunter
  9. Dom, you are the man! Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out. I'll be shooting some stuff soon and I'll post the results here. Thanks again! - Hunter

    Bolex P3

I apologize if I'm posting in the wrong section but I've just received a mint Bolex p3 and I was hoping for some tips/information on using the camera. I see that it takes 25 ft reels of 16mm film and it's my understanding than it exposes one side (8mm) then it is flipped and the other side is exposed? Does this mean special processing instructions? Any sort of workflow insight would be appreciated. Thanks! - Hunter
  11. I've never soldered wire before but I can certainly give it my best attempt. I appreciate you taking the time to help. Thanks! - Hunter
  12. Sorry I meant where would I physically place that? Would I need to do any wiring? Thanks. - Hunter
  13. Could you be more specific Jacek? Assume I know very little and you'll be correct ;) - Hunter
  14. Looking to buy some canon scoopic 16m batteries. Mine are done for and I'm hoping to buy some as I'm not sure I'm capable of re celling. Thanks! - Hunter O'Shea
  15. Super 8 and 16 are still heavily used but more so in independent projects these days. All the newest corporate videos strive for the highest production value... Red, Alexa, but if you want that "classic" skateboard video look go with the Sony dcr-vx1000 with the century optics mk1 fisheye lens. At least that way you're working with a 4:3 aspect ratio and won't have any cropping issues with the 8/16. As for auto focus I don't recommend it for shooting a skater moving at fast motions and the same reasons apply to the f stop/dof. - Hunter
  16. I've been shooting skating using only natural light for years now so hopefully I can give you some insight. You're going to want to film at a shutter of ideally and at least 125 for motion blur and higher frame rates definitely help out with the option of slow motion. If you don't have the option of 48/60 fps or higher you'll definitely want to go with 30 over 24 although 24 will work well for life style and b roll shots. As for rigs anything to help stabilize goes a long way as I'm usually rolling along side the skater for tracking shots. Glide cam.,, a gimbal... Ect. Perhaps the most important piece of equipment in filming skating in my experience has been a fisheye lens. I use the canon 8-15mm on my mkii and the the images are fantastic. You can get right up in the action! If you have any more specific questions I'd be happy to help! - Hunter
  17. My two batteries are the ten AA's. Thanks Jean-Loius Seguin - Hunter
  18. My Scoopic batteries have lost their will to live and no longer hold a charge. My local Batteries Plus wouldn't even take a look at them and I have a shoot coming up in a month so I'm hoping to find one or two good working batteries for a Canon Scoopic 16m. Thanks! - Hunter
  19. Thanks Daniel! The contest rules stated that the films must be comprised of at least 50% super 8 film and I wanted to show what some of the b roll was intended for so the vx footage was included. The vision 3 is the majority of the color footage including Johnrob breaking his board on the drop in and the zoom shot of his face. I did not apply any grain in post and the film was scanned at varying resolutions between 480 and 1080 over the years. - Hunter
  20. The available specs read 16:9 gate but no word on if there will be a 4:3 option for future/cheaper models. I hope there will be a choice between the two but I doubt it even though I imagine most consumers would opt for the wide gate. Myself included. If you're asking what the exact aspect ratio will be I'm curious as well. Same as max 8? - Hunter
