  1. Hi, leicina special yields the steadier image. Schnieder didn't make 7-80 lens for the beaulieus ( i believe ) only 6-66, 8-50, 6-70, angenieux produced the 8-64, 6-80 and 6-90. The 6-80 is an amazing piece of glass, produces a slightly warm image, while the 6-70 is image appears more natural and sharper. The 6-80 is calibrated in T-Stops, which is rare in the super 8 format. Sharpness, probably nowt between them. 6-80 delivers the best looking 64t images ( have tried canon 814xls, leicina, 6008 with 6-70, zeiss ms8 ) i have so far exposed. Not that i will touch that stock again with a barge pole. Going off topic, why not 64D, instead of 100D, this would offer less grain, its in the kodak ektachrome line up!!
  2. Hi, found the 16s/st a pig to use with the 400ft mag, arri m much better if you intend to use 400ft loads.

    Lens mounts

Hi, so you managed to track a 10mm cinegon down then Olly, imo, the cinegon fitted to the special gives the best super 8 images, no other lens yeilds sharper, 3d like images compared to the cinegon. As i read somewhere before, it was/is the most corrected lens ever made for the super 8 format, whether thats true or not, the lens delivers superb images.

    Lens mounts

Hi, dont forget the leicina special, any m-bayonet mount lens from the leitz 35mm still range will fit on the special.
  5. Hi, mine is a 5008-s multispeed ( 8, 18, 24, 45fps ), camera body is black. Under exp in auto mode red led illuminates, led does not illuminate if over exposed. Thus appears led only indicates under exp in auto mode only.
  6. Hi, dont worry, my 5008s is the same as yours, exposure is indicated via the red led. Its been a long time since i owned a 5008s ( two speed) so cannot remember if the earlier version did have an exp needle. My recently purchased 5008ms dates from 1978, gives great images and is the most underated beaulieu. Andy
  7. Hi, avoid the agfa moviechrome 40 stock like the plague, if you manage to get an image, it wont be long before image fungus ruins your film. Have view a lot of 1980s agfa, perutz and dixons super 8 images from various sources, including my own 1982/3 agfa 40 and 160 images, all are unwatchable due to emulsion fugus. Do yourself a favour and bin the agfa stock.
  8. 16mm kodachrome 40, or in the super 8 format, only hope now is double super 8 k40 (still available).
  9. Hi, filmed a wedding couple of weeks back, due to grim f1.4-2.8 lighting/typical uk weather had no choice but to opt for the 7008. This was the first time i used a beaulieu at a wedding, images sharpness was excellent, did not acheive as much footage in the can as i would have liked. Canon imo is king of the run and gun cameras, with the best auto iris. If the weather had been better then the canon 814xls would of been used. My 814 goes completely out of focus when used wide open. Canon imo is also easier to hand hold compared to the beaulieu.
  10. Hi, change the batteries for new duracells, then try the batt test see if that led glows. Once new batts are installed, switch cam to 'R' operate the trigger, if no signs of life, keeping the trigger depressed, flip the handgrip to the side of the camera, basically wiggle the handgrip, have known problems before with power getting into the cam from the grip, may have dirty wiper contacts. Last resort, give the cam a wack in the palm of your hand, motor could need freeing after years of lying idle. Try new batts to start with.
  11. Have correctly exposed 64t, made a test 64t, k40, ds-8 k25, then projected the result, 64t was utter crap, even correctly exposed, 0.5 and 1 stops over and under is fails to look good on a projected screen it really is a poor stock.
  12. Hi,kodak sales of 64t were probably ok to begin with, until users saw how bad it is. I see wittner are releasing fuji 64t in super 8 which offers less grain than e64t. Its not rocket science to work out the worst filmstock in the super 8 format is being sold by the formats originator. There must be a slow swing away from the 64t stock in favour of these new emulsions offered by wittner, gk, spectra etc. Kodak should cut there latest 100 e6 ( not 100d ) or offer the daylite version of 64t to redress the balance.
  13. Hi, been following a poll on filmshooting.com, i see the poll is in favour of kodak releasing 100d. I chatted to seven active super 8 users today at a collectors convention 6 people moaned that 64t is a poor replacement for k40 and the images are too grainy. One had switched to 16mm after using a few cartridges of 64t. Though he was totally unaware and not impressed that 16mm k40 in Europe had been discontinued (feel that the lab should send out a letter with processed 16mm film, some people are still not internet connected). As there seems to be so much negativity of 64t, i think kodak should see the error of their ways and release 100d in the sujper 8 format. Please.
  14. Hi, think you are getting confused with a beaulieu 4008s 1/87th shutter speed at 24fps, also the 6008/7008 at 24fps with non low lite shutter angle. Leicina special at 25fps should not yeild srtobie images.
  15. Hi, the best results i have obtained with 64t is with a beaulieu 7008 with angenieux 6-80 lens using an 85 filter............ Must point out the lens is on the warm side, so this probably slightly compensates for not using an 85b. I did expose one cartridge thru the zeiss ms8, results were on the blue side, stock needs an 85b or as Olly has mentioned a warming up filter. Going off topic, noticed Wittner are releasing fuji 64t in the super 8 cartridge, i think this stock has less grain than kodaks 64t
  16. Depends what film you plan to send, you may get away with it with non process paid double run 8mm, but wait, last thing in the world we want to do is kick the kodak Swiss lab in the nuts while they're alreading down. Super 8 non process paid k40 says that on the cartridge. I have been sending non process paid k40 to Switzerland with a cheque, cost for processing is £7.00 for 8mm and super 8, £14.00 for 16mm and DS-8 processing.
  17. True, but you need a camera that wont produce soft and possibly unusable pictures when the light levels are low, the canon will go soft in low lite.
  18. John, any indication how long the US stock pile of 16mm k/c will last, plan to buy in from the US and ship back to the US for processing. Andy BTW, rewinding back to the original question, for now, if you buy in non process paid k/c from the US, the lab at Switzerland will process the film at £14.00 per 100ft roll.
  19. Hi, as we are in Euriope, mail should not go thru customs, so i guess no x-ray. Have shipped 64t to Germany with no problems. No need to even put a customs label on the package. Also purchased film from Germany, again, no problem at all. BTW, you could get your neg processed here in the UK at Todd-AO, www.todd-ao.co.uk speak to Nicole on 020-7284-7939 for a price.
  20. Hi, my advice would be, buy 200t direct from kodak, use an ND filter, try not to let the cameras aperature go any wider than F4, best results i found with the 814xls are at f5.6,8,11. Avoid using the cameras variable shutter on the low lite angle. Good Shooting.
  21. Hi, only process paid kodachrome has been discontinued, non process paid is still available, as non processed paid is available in the USA, and the 'product changes' notices on the kodak website only covers changes to the US market, guess no official notice will appear until the k40 stock pile in the US is near the end!!!!!!! Perhaps JP could comment. UK regular users of 16mm kodachrome did receive an official letter from kodak uk concerning the end of processed paid k/c.
  22. Hi, must point out my info regarding 100ft loads of 16mm 100d direct from kodak may be out of date, last enquired around 5 weeks ago. Best to check with kodak uk. Apologies if i have mislead anyone.
  23. Hi, everywhere i've tried in the uk is sold out of 16mm kodachrome, try Wittner in Germany or John Schwind in the USA. Kodak uk do not offer 100d circuschrome on 100ft spools or cores, 400ft loads only, last 400ft load cost £100.00 for the film and £140.00 for processing in the uk, used to get 8 rolls of 16mm kodachrome for that price. Kodachrome was never offered on 100ft cores. Once upon a time, not very long ago you could buy 400ft cores of k25 and k40.
  24. Hi, i would expect Germany would be the place to source a repairer for the nizos, i did try a uk repairer, http://www.enablis.co.uk/kwtech.services/ however after many emails, messages left on answering machine, then speaking to the guy, i gave up. He promised to check his stock and ring me back, still waiting after 3-4 years or so. Understand that i am not alone with the service or lack of it i received from this uk repairer. Annoying as he is/was sitting on spare parts for bauer, nizo and possibly leicina special, he once worked for leitz instruments and i believe purchased all remaining spares including projector parts. I outed the cameras simply for space, at that time there must of been 20-30 in my cupboards.
  25. Hi, int 5 was binned, sold the 4080 for 50p at a cine convention. The remaining cameras were messed with by me then skipped at work, recall shipping a few parts to members on filmshooting.com. Given up messing with non working cameras now.
