How isn't it? Im actually looking for an understanding of what is considered chiaroscuro in art
-
Ah ok i guess the easiest way is https://m.facebook.com/dave.keen.31?ref=bookmarks My profile picture, with the orange umbrella.
-
I tried to post the picture twice but it didnt work
-
Can the lighting in this pic be referred to as chiaroscuro? Is the bright part bright enough? Am I grasping the concept of chiaroscuro?

Newbie's question here. How much does the total output in terms of i guess footcandles/lux decrease if i put a tungsten (3200K) diffusion over the 5600K LED light? It's one of those tungsten diffusion plastic plates goes right over the light. I know that putting a CTB in front of my 3200 K greatly reduces the amount of light goin out. I'm videoing three guys interacting on a street and I'm concerned about keeping them all inside the DOF. If I have enough light I can do a higher F stop but i probably don't, even with the street light over us.

Btw, just links to good online references or in the forum addressing this type of queation would be great too. I realize this is a big topic im asking about. If i got a little film camera to shoot some stocks on in nyc where would i even go to develop & edit? Sounds like a go to school thing -
The comment from Rodrigo Prieto ASC, AMC: "From the beginning, Marty and I agreed we'd shoot film and anamorphic. Film negative has a color depth that no digital camera has yet to reproduce, and Silence takes place in a natural world, so color nuance was important." Are there no sufficient ways to manipulate colors digitally in post like setting saturation even for parts of the frame? Or for recording the full dynamic range? Or is film stock really capturing some quality that cant be done with a digital cam? I loved the film. I brought a box of candy in but then it seemed somehow repulsive to eat during this one so i finished it walking out at the end. A first in my movie-seeing history hahaha Happy new year all

I will capture an actor walking down the street in Brooklyn, NY, his walk ending at a beautiful old theater. I need key him along his route as he walks.... I've read about the inverse square law, and I know in my experiences so far just how quickly the light seems to fall off. Must be battery powered LED Is there a way to figure this out now mathematically? Camera is just a Rebel T3i. I could use a 50mm (80mm on my sensor)1.8, a 85 mm (136 on my sensor) 1.6 or the kit lens 18-55 3.5-5.6 Cheers & Happy Holidays

PLEASE HELP!!! Final Cut Pro X disaster
David Edward Keen replied to David Edward Keen's topic in Post Production
woo! thanks Tyler, yep that was it. tonight my violin was buzzing though it came back from the luthier all fixed. 35 seconds later i'd troubleshooted and discovered the loose screw on an attachment. That's it! with the computer gosh if you don't know something it looks like everything has completely changed and your project is ruined. thanks for the help! it was exactly the situation. -
In literally the last 5 minutes of a 35 hours of work on my video in FCPX, I was fixing the intertitles, changing them to the font i like. I pressed something inadvertantly, i cannot tell you what. Suddenly the ENTIRE production, every singel frame is as though cropped. As if the edges of the frames are ALL gone, and it's all totally screwed up. There's a drop-down menu that says "50%" and it appears to make the entire picture smaller or larger. None of the settings on that drop down menu work. It's now at 50% the closest thing possible. It's horrible and I'm losing my mind. Anyone have any idea how to get back to normal picture size? I initially tried CONTROL Z as that undoes what you've just done, but it did nothing. I'm really hoping someone can help. It says image, the small photo i took with my phone is too big to upload....hopefully you don't need me to send pics

I was told that the exposure latitude for my Rebel T3i is "about 5 stops under middle grey and 4 stops above" To check my understanding, this means that highlights and shadow areas beyond this range will include loss of detail? I want to learn how best to use the light meter Also I am unsure which setting on the "Quality" menu to choose. The photo won't upload which sucks as there are icons....so the menu is: [pie-wedge shape] L [stepped version of the pie wedge] L [pie-wedge icon] M [stepped version of the pie wedge] M [pie-wedge shape] S1 [stepped version of the pie wedge] S1 S2 S3 RAW+[pie-wedge shape] L RAW Is this the same RAW people are always talking about, like with professional cinema cams and BMCC? Is the L LOG? I THINK the camera records in H.264 and is converted in FCPX to ProRes for smoother editing and playback...then converted back to H.264 as that is preferred for a deliverable Thanks, it's important for me to get the terms and concepts straight. Please lemee know if there is a mention of this in another place here on cinematography.com. i didnt see it I want to get the most out of my little camera.

Im obsessed with this stuffb but my profession provides my bread n butter...my videos, and my loyal following of 13 people, provide a perfect 0% of a living. Tell u though, if i have a DP or anyone especially actors give their time to my project...i will put off the thing to sock away a few hundred. Those smiles are real. Respect-smiles...just my $0.0002 -
Reading this string reminded me of a similar topic in a music composition blog...inclined to agree with the notion that indeed it's best to strive for quality whether $100 million or $100...AND thanx to you guys i found out about Chicken Thing, which i'd never heard of, and they just got it in at the NY library of the performing arts for me so here i go to watch my 1st ever 16mm film! Tnx again folks!

I've been told that gamma is a synonym for the midtones. Is this a different gamma than the one above? Couldn't find it specifically in searches. -
