Hi there, I just wanted to say I am looking for the same thing actually, wondering if it is still useable. I tend to shoot a lot of film still, and I think it would be a good alternative for me, keeping the same limitations as film, while still shooting digital. Regardless, I don't really know of performance at 500 ISO, if it can output 444 through one SDI (because my recorder is 6g) and so on. C
-
Indeed you are right. If it was really up to me, shooting this on the Hawk's would be the only choice. And forcing this project back into 1:85.1 crop from a S16 would probably be ideal, but the director is being a bit....well. A bad word. So I do really want to do some testing to show him why we should not save money on this, or just scrap the idea completely. Then again, personally I was very curious on how the Panasonic adapter performed on Nikon-still lenses mounted to a S16 camera, on film that is. C
-
Yeah, well if it was up to me. But I don't think production budget can afford spending 1500 dollars on just lenses sadly :( C
-
Yeah I am not after the crop either, I want the anamorphic feel. I will probably just rent and test. C

I have already brought this up in the 16mm group, but I need guidance from us Eclair pros. First. What are the issues with using Nikon-lenses on the ACL? Two. Les Bosher does not speak to me anymore at all, so is there anyone that knows where I could get one, or that could offer to contact him to buy one for me? Three. I am going to use the lenses with a Panasonic AG-LA7200 adapter, to get the wider anamorphic look of the footage. I know flares will not be the same but I want the width more. I have seen it being used with Nikon lenses on the BlackMagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera, and that has the exact same sensor size as Super 16 film. But despite this, what could be some of my problems? ( - Video shot with this combination) //C
-
What I have decided to do is to repurpose the rod-base that I bought from Les Bosher and just make it fit more snug to my Eclair. Then drill another hole so I can fit it on the plate that goes onto the dovetail. I am looking for a smooth way to move inbetween different mounts (dolly, tripod, stedicam) rather than worried about how to make the rods align up perfectly. C

Got any footage to show? I would love to test this out but spluring 1 grand for a filmtest is pushing it :)

Hi there, I believe that this is probably something that has been discussed before. But I hope there are some new things that can be brought up with this question. I have an upcoming project in the fall, and the director and I have decided that we want to have the anamorphic look for a short we will be making. Now the flares are not the most important thing, but rather the vast image that we are going for. The problem is how to achieve it. First idea would be to use my own S16 Eclair ACL, with an PL adapter, and we were considering renting pure 1.33x anamorphics. But as far as I know, the only ones to rent at the Hawk's, and they would cost us pretty much the complete production budget to get a set. Second idea we had is to use a R16 Arriflex SR and put Kowa 2x on it. The real issue here would just be the wider shots, since we basically loose all the width in the image. Third idea is to invest in a Panasonic AG-LA7200 adapter, with a 0.25 diopter, and use B4 lenses on the ACL to get the image we are going for. I also have a person that can make a M4/3 adapter for the ACL, so any M4/3 solution would work as well, but honestly I am open to any ideas you might have. And yes, both me and director are 100% set on shooting on film stock. C

I feel this thread has gotten a bit out of topic. I'm still trying to find leads on the existing Penelope Deltas that got out into the wild. Anyone knows anything or should I try just contacting AATON directly? C
-
Hi there, Everyone in this group was probably very sad when Aaton stopped making cameras. And I for one really wished they would have stayed on, now I was never able to work when they were active (because I was too young), but learning about all their cameras now brings some tears to my eyes not knowing they exist. However I am a bit curious. I know that there were made 6 (I have read 8 even) final versions of the Penelope Delta, that was sold to rental houses in the world. I have been looking everywhere if it would be possible to rent any one them, but I can't seem to find anything. The dream would be to get my hands on one to buy (even though the prices has skyrocketed since it is a collectors thing now), but I could settle for just being able to work with it once. Anyone that has any leads on where to get my hands on one? And possibly even in the West Coast of the US? C

Gregg I hear you, but the biggest issue currently is to make the top part of the plate. Not the bottom part. That one I can technically drill myself later to fit the baseplate I want, regardless of what system I am going with. I have used only one screw with Arri's 19mm system and it works perfectly with my lenses, so that is not my worries. It is the actual drawing and measurements of the top that I am worried about. C
-
While having a lot of back and forth with my model. I want to suggest the Eclair ACL as well, considering that you can actually have adapters made, and use everything from PL, to C-mount, to Bayonet, to Nikon F-mount, (and even EF lenses). And they are pretty nice on your shoulder :) C
-
Here is a quick drawing. https://www.dropbox.com/s/i4q8bohcl2qrysf/20170418_141314.jpg?dl=0 Basically just a plate I can permanently attach to my ACL body, so I get two scree holes, so any baseplate can lock in secure to my ACL body. C
-
Right. So I need a plate, that can attach to the body, secure. But on it's own bottom, have two holes for screws. So I can attach a baseplate, and then the baseplate to a dovetail. Because no baseplate I have found can lock in the ACL securely with just one screw. Hence I need a plate in-between. Well right now I rather just figure out a way to attach the camera to a baseplate. Figuring out the rods are the next step. But probably use the 19 mm with the ARRI FF's we have a school, and with the Arri_bayonet super speeds. C
-
Well I think I used the wrong term from the start here. I need a plate to attach to the body. That lets me attach the normal baseplate. So something that will lock into this, https://www.dropbox.com/s/bojyo13qq3fvuf0/Image.jpg?dl=0 Then that can be attached to the things that slide onto the dovetail.
-
This is my point. A bridge plate, or any tripod head would use two screws. And I need to make a plate to put inbetween. Something I can attach permanently to the camera. Then I would be able to order the thing you sent before. C
-
The link you sent me before was perfect. That dovetail kit would work. But it's the bridgeplate that is the current issue. I need something the gives me two screwholes instead of one. C
-
Yeah teh offset I have taken into account. The Aaton LTR, or the early SR FF should fit without any issue. And the problem for me it really just to mount it more secure to the tripod. Using one screw for me NEVER felt safe enoough. I might contact Bernie again for this one yet again. CNC sounds like the way to go but I have to research it more when I got some sketches on this. I am just afraid of offsetting the screwholes. C
-
Well I still need a CAD to use for the maker. If anyone of you have a machine maker that could offer this, please let me know. Right now I am just a bit stuck with this.
-
Hi there, I am now trying to have some people make a new bridge place for my ACL 1.5 to fit onto production size dovetails. The problem is, I can not find an actual diagram in the manuals to either make a CAD to send to 3d-print lab, or enough for a machine maker to fabricate something. Sadly I do not know of any metal workers in the San Francisco bay area, hence why I am trying to have 3D print of it. Would be happy for any help. C

Standard speed vs Super Speed
Carl Nenzen Loven replied to Carl Nenzen Loven's topic in Lenses & Lens Accessories
I use the Eclair for most projects. This is my first with the Alexa. We are shooting on the Alexa Classic. And it is a kit of Super speeds version II, from what I have found out. The normal speeds are from the BL3-era. I will probably get the normal speeds. The light gain shooting digital is enough to make up for it. Duely noted :) also, very cool to get a response from another Swede, and a FSF at that. -
Hi there, Now before we start yelling about technical difference, yes I have done quite some research there so I understand the difference when it comes to that. However trying to find someone that has done a lenstest of both, on the same camera, seems hard to find. I have an upcoming project in a few weeks and I have been given the option of a larger kit of standard speed lenses (older version that came with the BL's if I recall), or a fairly new kit (MKII) version of the super speeds. And I am trying to figure out which to pick for the look I am going for. Now I will go there and do testing as well myself, but I would like to hear people's thought on this before as well. C

I actually have 2 cables with jaeger contacts. And Jaeger batteries. Not XLR. But if any 12v will work, my cable guy can probably make a jaeger to D-tap cable. C
-
Yeah but I still have Jaeger on my body, so XLR does not really make sense... C

I HAVE FINALLY GOTTEN IT TO WORK. Sort of. We are at an early stage desiging this. But we have an image that is slightly there! https://www.dropbox.com/s/tgtvfmkmbhoz10r/tap.mp4?dl=0 C
