  1. Short films/commercials for Facebook and TV. I run a, for now, one man or small crew production. Let's be honest here, I am not a colorist, so my perception of what a perfect color gamut is, is definitely not present. I grade for scene moods, and what looks good to me.
  2. I have to say, I really find the URSA mini interesting. There is an EF mount, which lets me use EF glass I already have. There is ProRes AND RAW. 13stop global shutter and 15stop rolling shutter for those shots with less movement. I also like the formfactor, and the price is right. Would be great to try it beforehand though.
  3. Ye, we did discuss it here a few posts up. The 4,6k would be interesting model, because of the new sensor. Hopefully there will be some reviews and footage of it soon. Have you had some personal experience with it? edit. Scratch that. There is already test footage out there. Looks really good to be honest.
  4. I watched a couple of videos on the URSA mini yesterday. Seems interesting, but the past flaws of the BMCC, worries me. Right now, the FS7 is definitely the best contender. Hopefully one can find a decent sample on the used market. Exactly. And the rolling shutter..

Honestly, I'm not really feeling the C100 atm, but that might just be the fact that I'm ready to step up to 4K and higher framerates, where as slomo is the most important. The RED One is very interesting. This would be bought from the used market place, am I right? You are also right in the fact that there would have to be a big lens swap going over to PL mount. Although there is always Metabones.
  6. Jobs are accumulating, and I am looking into upgrading my camera in a few months. Currently shooting on a 5dmk2, which is fine, but I am looking into something more flexible and without the major rolling shutter issues. For now, I have been looking at the following cameras; RED Epic, RED Raven, C100mk2, Sony FS5. So price of most of these cameras are around $5000, which would be preferable. Sadly, I don't have the chance to try these cameras before buying, so every single piece of advice is greatly appreciated. Obviously, internal 4K is a huge plus. Another thing, is that while DSLRs and compacts do just fine in most cases, they don't really look like professional cine cameras, which would be beneficial when working for clients. It's all about image, right ... Are the any other obvious cameras I should be looking at? Does ARRI have good options in this range, maybe? I see those are the most discussed cameras around here. But I guess it's for the renting market, concidering the price on those badboys?

  9. Great. Thanks! I am definitely getting some kinos or other fluorescents, but they are not first priority. As for the PAR64, what do you usually use them for? Awesome list, thanks! I figured. The technology isn't that affordable yet.
  10. I think this would fit very well into my arsenal of equipment. One or two 2ks, and then some smaller 650s that are easy to place in smaller sets. I know I'm going to get some 6x6' cloth diffusor, but a softbox is probably also good to have for each light, am I right? Nothing would be better than to have something like that available, but for now, it's way out of my budget. Appreciate the input though!
  11. The work I am paid for is story-telling commercials. I guess what could be beneficial is to have maybe 2 or 3 smaller sized light sources, which are easy to place. And then one big source for lighting up whole rooms when necessary. This is a Norwegian link ; but what do you think about sources like these? Are fresnels more allround, maybe?   12. Hi guys. So far I have shot most my stuff in natural lighting outside. However, more and more of my projects are set inside, and so, I have to look into buying some lighting kit. Which begs the question. What should be the foundation of my lighting kit? What are must-haves for every small set productions? I mostly shoot short films, with limited set size. Would I be better off buying one of the fresnel kits on B&H for around 2-3000, or should I do a mix of smaller kit? Any advice here is greatly appreciated!

  14. People are so close-minded here it's unbelieveable. Chances might be low, but if it's actually good, you have to start hustling. First would be to get a trailer made and show it to the right people, but also on Vimeo/YT to get some general feedback. Maybe it sucks, you won't know before others have seen it.
  15. I liked the warm feeling of it. The only thing I felt was that the 1st cameraman was a bit insecure in the composition in the kitchen scenes, but I didn't think about it much to be honest. I would have ended it differently though, but that's just me.

  17. It really depends on the look you are going for though. I feel like the softer look of the first image is easier on the eyes.
  18. Seen something similar before actually. Huge improvement. I feel like these kinds of shots need to be 4K though. This is too soft to be used in anything.

  20. I've learned a whole lot researching the internet, learning from other both professional and amateur cinematographers, DPs and directors. Watching a lot of shorts, trying and failing myself, and basically doing it yourself. Over time you will get better and better. There are probably great books to read, but I'm more a practical approach kinda guy myself. I recently started a one-man company, after doing short film on and off for almost 10 years.
