  1. Paul, In answer to your query regarding what used 2000' Mitchell mags and was negative film available: 35mm soundtrack recording cameras made by Westrex often use a 2000' Mitchell magazine. See the Ra-1231 manual on: http://jrsky.com/manuals.html (RCA 35mm soundtrack recording cameras use a Bell and Howell magazine.) Kodak and Agfa (yes Agfa) still sell 2000' 35mm soundtrack recording film. Kodak: http://www.kodak.com/US/en/motion/products...12.20&lc=en Hope this helps. Henry.
  2. Paul, Your DSLR systems sounds great. Would you be able to post a photo of the setup? Are the results good? Thanks from, Henry.
  3. I stumbled on this fascinating website today. It briefly describes a 35mm Kevlar/graphite camera. Thought it might be of interest to this forum. http://www.theflyingeyeprojectusa.com/35mm...film_camera.htm Has anyone seen the camera first hand? It looks impressive. The weight is incredible. Henry.
  4. David, The Versamat I have was designed for processing b&w still camera film at a large newspaper. Versamats appear to be mostly used for aerial photography film. As John P. Pytlak said they are not ideal for motion picture. There is no stop bath between developer and fixer. Also agitation is low. It can process all film gauges up to 5". This means that 70mm or other unusual sizes are not a problem. There is a roll film adapter available that allows 200' of film to be developed. As expected the Versamat has a replenisher unit and built in drying cabinet as well. The processor has a dial/knob that allows the speed of the film through the processor to be varied. It is a very neat well engineered, compact machine however. I was lucky to also obtain all the manuals. Hope this helps. Henry.
  5. Hi, Anyone have any photos that they can post showing the mechanism side of a modern 35mm or 16mm camera? By mechanism side I refer to the side driving the movement and shutter. I and I'm sure others, would love to see what is inside an engineering masterpiece like an Aaton, Arri 435, 235 or the 16mm 416. They must surely look very different to the old cameras as they have a seperate mirror motor. I have attached a photo of a very old (not at all modern) Arri 1 35mm camera to get things started. In this example the magazine drive gear is the large brown gear at the top. The motor drive gear is at the bottom of the picture. The mirror is the angled item on the right hand side. The black cylinder on the left hand side is the tachometer. Henry.
  6. Brian Pritchard's superb website has a section on tinting. Is this the sort of thing you are after? http://www.brianpritchard.com/Tinting.htm Henry.
  7. Wanted to buy Konvas 70mm cameras and/or magazines. Either converted to 65mm or in the original 70mm. Please reply directly to the following e-mail adddress: cinefan@gmail.com Thanks from, Henry.
  8. Monitoring humidity can be carried out with an inexpensive datalogger such as the Dallas/Maxim i-button. I have used these and they work very well. It is easy to see the temperature and humidity cycles inside a frost free domestic freezer using these. The electronic datalogger is the size of a large button cell battery! See the following link. http://www.maxim-ic.com/quick_view2.cfm/qv_pk/4379
  9. Here is the link to the Kodak website section on film storage. Click on the headings to see the full information on each topic. http://www.kodak.com/US/en/motion/support/...53.12&lc=en Henry.
  10. I have loaded and run 200' in a 200' mag with no issues at all. Henry.
  11. One important point when shooting motion picture (ECP) printstock is to check if it is acetate or polyester. 2244 and 2242 is Estar not acetate. Also see http://www.kodak.com/US/en/motion/products.../tech5242.shtml for more information. It looks like 2242 and 2242 are ECN-2 film NOT ECP!! The strength of polyester is incredible and a mishap in the camera can easily cause stripped gears. Saying that I know of polyester motion picture print film being used very succesfully for filming (albeit still life). As far as I know using motion picture print film is possible in an Arri 2 or an Eyemo. I have shot C-41 "still" print film in an Arri 2 with no problems. YMMV. Henry.
  12. Visual Products have a lot of Arri 2 gear. They would be worth a call. Henry.
  13. Maybe extension tubes could be used instead of diopters...I have never seen any other than for the Arri std mount though. Is a Matte box available for the 35mm Lomo anamorphic? Henry.
  14. Hi James, Sounds like you have some nice lenses. I would suggest tests with a roll of film (short end?) will help highlight any issues. Then perhaps a single light print. A slate with lens, aperture, stock and other details will help when the print is viewed. Please let the forum know how you get on. Henry.
  15. Oliver, I have purchased film from overseas before with no significant issues. One problem I did experience however was pressure fogging due to the cans being slightly dented. The problem was however confined to the sprockets. The film I purchased was low ASA. I would be more wary of purchasing a high ASA film as it would be more sensitive to X-Ray damage. A reputable seller of short-ends or recans will usually plaster the package with "Do Not X-Ray" labels. It is prudent to dip test all the film before use! I understand that the United States Postal Service (USPS) no longer offers Surface or Sea-Mail so this cheap form of shipping is not an option. Most short-ends/recans are much cheaper to purchase in your home country however exchange rate variations and "specials" can make it worth the risk. Henry.
  16. Agfa soundtrack film is still available in Europe. Both panchromatic and ortho 35mm. The Colour release print film is sold widely as well. Regarding Asian film producers... Lucky film makes 35mm B&W film called LUCKYPAN. I'm not sure about ENC2 film. http://www.luckyfilm.com/eng/products_2_1.html Lucky also sell a print film ECP-2 process http://www.luckyfilm.com/eng/products_1_3.html Wikipedia states that "Eastman Kodak and China Lucky Film signed a 20 year co-operation agreement" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China_Lucky_Film Henry.
  17. Yes it has a good reputation. The film you mentioned is print stock not negative. Agfa still sell this and also soundtrack negative film. Henry.
  18. Thanks John, I guess then it is a model "I" as the serial number is 142X. Thanks from, Henry.
  19. Further to my previous post. Here are some photos of the mystery 35mm Arri. Here is a photo of the claw mechanism. (Click on the thumbnail for larger image) Here is a photo of the mechanism (Click on the thumbnail for larger image) The door shown at the top of this photo is not from the camera. Henry.
  20. Hi, I have recently come across an early Arri 35mm camera. Is it a IIA? Some differences from the 2B are: -The claw is steel -The round plate on the side of the camera has only Arriflex and not IIB or IIC engraved on it. -The turret has the focal length of the lenses engraved in the turret levers so that you can see what lens is used. -There is no cover over the claw (I don't know if it is just missing or was never present). Some other miscellaneous info. -An Arri 2B door fits OK...not perfectly but 98% -The serial number is near the turret at the bottom -The turret is all Arri standard mount. -The motor drive gear is the same as a 2B Is it a IIA? Thanks From, Henry.
  21. Hi, I need an Arri standard to PL mount adapter. I have found the following. http://www.cinematechnic.com/products/PL_M...pt_ARRIStd.html http://www.visualproducts.com/storeProduct...=701&Cat=11 http://www.pstechnik.de/en/optics-plmounts.php Anyone on this forum tried any of these? Which worked best? Any other recommendations would be much appreciated. Thanks From, Henry.
  22. Hi, I am looking for any old Ultrascope anamorphic lenses. These are lenses usually with an Arri standard mount. I'm also interested in Ultrascope accessories, or any related literature. If you can help please e-mail me at: cinefan@gmail.com Thanks From, Henry.
  23. Hi, I am looking for a scope/anamorphic gate for a 2B/C. Can anyone recommend a dealer or individual who may have one for sale? My e-mail address is: Cinefan@gmail.com Thanks from, Henry.
  24. I have also had a good experience with this seller. The film was well packed and was a recent batch number. The film performed well. Henry.
