  1. Is there any adaptor that enables mounting of Broadcast EFP/ENG lenses on Mark2/Mark3 Canon 5D
  2. i need information on shooting in absolute darkness(worst case situation).are infra red camera the best option?
  3. The SMPTE standard (196M) is for 16 ftLamberts (as David says) but the tolrance is a little looser - screen centre can vary between 12 ftL and 22 ftL, with edges not less than 75% of the centre reading (and in no case less than 10 ftL). well out here in india the centre measure's at most 7-8 ft lm and the sides about 5.and i'm talking about the previe screen of the most widely used lab. how does one compansate for this while shooting?
  4. hi, are there any standards for lamp luminance(in lamberts) for screen projector :)
  5. I'm talking about the same print..the print that i made in technicolor bangkok looked superb at there lab projection .. but in indian lab projection it's not half as close..
  6. while shooting movement over chroma screen..will shutter angle help in terms of a crisper key?
  7. is thus an Arii ST make?
  8. bingo..just go ahead and shoot........'18 will stand by u
  9. educate me ...please whats the unit of measurement for lab projector ..luminance et all..?
  10. will the size of the cinema hall make any difference...i mean the projection distance from the projector to the screen..?
  11. i just made a test print ....infact 2 test prints..one was printed in india and the other one at tecnicolor(bangkok).. the same negative was used for the print. the bangkok print looked absolutely brilliant in there lab projection...print was 1.85 and was viewed on a 1.85 screen. the same print seen through a 1.85 gate in the indian lab projection(the screen here is bigger so there are bands on the side) does not look half the same...the sharpness has disapperead it seems... any thoughts?
  12. i have shot 7218 xtensivly in the last one year....it is tailor made for digital post..on the other hand, even it is handeled optically it is not at all "grainy"...emulsion is made of grain.... it all depends on what format you are finally going to project?
  13. any views on arri 16ST ??? can this be converted to S16
  14. any opinion on 7212 shot daylight with or without 85 filter? is there a filter other than 85 doin the same thing(812 or something..?)
  15. a film called Baraka by Ronn Fricke..... he modified the camera himself for the film...( hope i spelled the name(s) correctly) he will be the best person to solve these issues ..try this... read ur exposure for the darkest part of the shot....read ur exposure for the brightest part of the shot....set the exposure for the darkest part and then plonk ND filters .... if u take out ND filters periodically...u should be able to match the jumps in edit.. i feel.. how many ND's u 'll need to plonk is a question
  16. "films" are universal... best shot ??????? if not now then never.....and why not ....if i was a DP based in japan ,australia, africa...any other part of the world....would it have made any difference...??????????????? a great DP by the name of Mr. Ashok Mehta says " God Creates...I recreate."

    Lenes

all camera formats originate because a human being can see. in the human body the eye serves as a camera.this is the best camera made ever in the world... :D ..just that the images get recordded in the internal hard disk of that humanbeing...no one else can inside that persons mind :P ..so a film camera was made....(seed a dvd called visions of light) coming back to ur question...every camera format has a normal, wide and a telephoto lens.... A NORMAL LENS shows what the Normal(..say a 6/6 in medical terms) human eye sees.IN case of 35mm film a 50mm(milli metets) is a normal lens, mm basically signifies the focal length..which essentialy translates into---- the distance from the point the light enters the lens to the point where the image is formed(the film) A WIDE LENS shows "more" than a normal lens ...its got a lesser focal length as it use less elements...anything less than 50mm is a wide lens..it has a greater angle of vier and more deapth of field A TELEPHOT LENS has a lesser angle of view shows "less' things has lesser deapth of field...something like a telescope...th focal lenght is always more than 50mm. Please lay your hands on some book..cinematography by chris malkawich(i hope i got the spelling right)
  20. age still might not be a criteria but life experience is a must. at 28 i have coproduced and shot my first feature.....i started working at 16......at 16 i did not know my face from my A**....but at 16 if someone has the desire drive and resources to make "a film"...go ahead.....at worst one can fail...just in case that happens...get up and start over...nothing succeeeeesseeeed's as succeeeeeees.. all of us here are "here" to do things that makes us "happy"
  21. how does one calibareate the scanner.....my post house tells me they use the log method and rest is a "secret" ..... my knowledge makes me believe they need to caliberate for LAD for negative...m i correct?
  22. do have a reel...dont know where to look for agents...can u give me some link??
  23. "not appropriate" might have been a wrong word....in the nut shell...the LAD of the test strip(Processed in indian LAB) do not match to the given value of the manufacturer ...so in turn DP's tune themselves to what the LAB is capable of(...rather than LAB getting to specified LAD value) ... in my case i've just got 3 years of experience...i shot my debut film S16..processed at Frank Cramel's FTS Singapore( Kodak Image Care ).PERFECT PROCESSING. 35mm print is being made thro DI...the post house is recording a 5242...they claim they can process it only at A PATICULATR LAB.......the reason they give is calibration of there recorder to the LAB. the LAB's calibration for processing is(should B) LAD. which means that if this LAB is getting a different LAD than the given value for LAD patch... either the LAD patch values are wrong or the LAB is not doing the processing correctly? at the risk of being the black sheep .....i think(and some what belive) that the LAB is at fault and not the LAD values suppled by KODAK i m not even sure if this paticular lab where the inter is being processed follows kit chemistry....
  24. i have started to belive that 16Vs HD discussion can go on and on.....grain colour sharpness of the final 35mm print are all comparative terms.... if it goes with the look of the film the DP and the Director aspired for it solves everyones purpose.... 16 or HD whatever it is ...i quote something i read some place "U have to make ur first film because it is ur first film"...(..will recollect and post the name as soon as i emember it  )
  25. In India it is said that the LAD standard provided by Kodak is not "appropriate"..... If I take unprocessed LAD Strip and process it in Indian LAB...i should read the LAD provided by KODAK..???? As a Cinematographer( :o also Producer) what matters to me is......WHEN a POST HOUSE burns/records me a 5242 master negative...i should be able to process it anywhere in the WORLD as long as that LAB follows the processing to obtain the LAD supplied by KODAK... am i right or am i wrong????????
