  1. you guys could have shot up here in Atlanta or georgia at least. i received a lot of work on some stuff that came thru because of katrina. trhere are a lot of hungry, warrant free folks up here. we only have i think 2 features being shot right now up here but can always use more! David, if you feel comfortable telling me, is your feature Union?
  2. thx dave.it was a trivial question but i like to keep up with the OPs on shows... i appreciate you taking the time to answer... (you recall i asked you this same question in the akellah the bee journals... )
  3. Dave, excellent journals as always. may i ask, who is doing A/Steadi on this show? IMDB is not forthcoming... thx in advance.
  4. a close friend who worked on a film with him is looking to connect with him again to ask about some pointers on a movie they are writing. this is the david wadley im referring about: http://imdb.com/name/nm1556154/ thanks in advance for any info on how to contact him. he is also a member of local 700 in LA. the contact info on that page is not helpful either.
  5. finally got around to smoking over this months Production Update Magazine and lookie whos in there: probably already been discussed but i think dave deserves another mention...
  6. never been thru that at all on my 100a.. did you try to use a hard wire just fo kicks? could have been a number of things inside those rooms causing the issue...
  7. go to kodak .com always the freshest film. k40. then send it to dwaynes for processing.
  8. let me bump... were both rolls of the same lot and expiry date? are you saying you do not recommend dwaynes?
  9. this is a cool idea re: journals. i have not read all of it but i will in my spare time. thanks dave for taking the time to do this... some of us arnt able to have fun like this on a daily basis so its cool to see what goes on in a DPs mind.. :) i met "fish" here at CNN. he's not as tall as i thought he was.. low key guy.. nice... by the by, dave, would you mind telling who did steadicam?
  10. right on phil, all digital media has errors in it. and its up to the error correction circuitry to correct them before the naked eye can catch it (or ear). my meaning is ive yet to "SEE" and un correctible error yet but im sure i will... anything man made will break down...
  11. this question is like "which gas is best.. regular or premium".. you will get varying answers and degrees of opinion, so in the end you probaly never get your question answered... BUT... my choice of tape for the 100a is the MQ 63 minute tapes. i have yet to get a dropout on them but im sure i will ... dropouts will happen.. just as CDs/dvds have errors in them... keep your heads clean and the tape path.. keep the door closed on the machine. store your tapes in the case until needed at that point. i would also recommend manual cleaning of the tape path with denatured alcohol.. NOT rubbing alcohol... instead of using the abrasive tape cleaners. also, stick with one particular tape stock.. dont switch from wet and dry stocks for example. if you must do that, please clean the tape path and heads prior to using the different brand... ooh yeah, do not use anything longer than 63 minutes.. for one thing pana recommends NOT to do this and also as you said, the stock is thinner and prone to jamming up....
  12. i use vegas 5.x for my dvd x-fers to dvd and also as my NLE....
  13. thanks for the reply and the above link.. i saw that slate a couple weeks ago and that lead me to try to find a cheaper way. seems its not possible to do this modification easily so ill just continue to have the alstes backlit by a flashlight... thanks for all who contributed...
  14. thanks for the reply. yes that has been done and i knew about that, but i would like to know if its possible to apply a lumniescient (sp?) piece that can be powered on a battery. maybe its too much involved to make this happen? anyone?
  15. i am looking to get an acrylic slate and these can be backlighted from what i am told. any of you 1st's here know how this could be accomplished? thanks for any info.
  16. ive done my share of music vids and i have been on projects where artists no nothing about getting in front of a camera and "performaing" for the camera... sure they know how to perform on stage, but continuity, repeats, different angles.. ertc... they just dont get it... anyway, the camcorder rehearsal is a great idea, they also need to practice in front of the mirror... practice is what will make them get comfortable with what they have to do.. i love anything im shooting.. im in it for the love.. not the money... which is why im not rich now... :)
  17. if any of you guys/gals are looking for another email client and want to use Gmail, drop me a PM. i have some invites...
  18. very nice. any updates?
  19. i dont agree with that quote on rack focus... i have seen some nicely done pulls (ive done a couple myself! :D) . sometimes it can get in the way as with any other tool but used correctly and not overused it works great...
  20. maintaining servers cost money. this site is free for the most part. as long as you will store the vast knowledge of info on floppies, etc. then by alll means pull the plug and archive. as long as we have the Great Minds like david mullen and others around, this fourm will continue to serve...

    whats the update on this?
  22. im "A"/Steadi on a low budget feature with the 100 and the 100a. last night it was down to ~20 degrees or so and for a short time when i would get critical focus (zoom in focus.. zoom out) it would breathe a little when i zoomed out.. i blame the cold wx for this and this was the only time i saw this happen (has not been this cold until now) and ive been shooting on the cam for about 3 weeks this far. i dont care too much for the lens system either.
  23. you cant multitask in palm as you can in pocket pc. if you dont need desktop functionality in your device then just stick with palms. personally i use pocket pc as i do need the desktop fuctionality in the palm of my hand...
