Hi,
I am currently working on a shoot where the main 'character' is a CRT television, and I have ran into an issue, on our test shoots, with a rolling/flickering screen. Simple fixes, like Mark Irwin's changing the shutter angle on Videodrome, isn't going to work as the SR2 has a fixed 180 degrees angle. We have a speed controller and found that 24 or 23.976 reduces the flicker to a line but it is still pretty noticeable and we'd prefer to have the screen static (or as static as possible).
This has led us to enquire about sync boxes or an ECU-1, as written about in an Arri tech booklet by Jan Heugal, but I cannot seem to find a rental house - in the UK - that has access to one.
There is a post from a while back (2018) that mentions this one from Take 2 Films, but they closed down a few years ago - if anybody knows where to get access to one in the United Kingdom or, indeed, where the Take 2 sync box went after they closed, it would be greatly appreciated. I have reached out to Arri Rental UK about an ECU-1 but didn't hear back. Or, if anybody knows any cheaper tricks, specifically for a SR2 with a speed controller, on how to eliminate roll or flicker, that would be amazing.
Details:
Camera: Arri SR2
TV: 50hz (PAL) CRT TV
Cheers
