  1. There are many things, but I will tell you some basics. If you are the only one, u have a lot to take care. Charging the batteries before shooting(sometimes need a whole night or more), checking camera's registration (needs a shooting test), condition of lenses, condition of magazines, (need to be clean and neat), checking all equipment that is ok from the rental house, all cables, tripods, heads, accesories, monitors. As for the shooting and if you are the only one assistand, u have follow focus, magazines loading/unloading, video assist seting appropriate, cleanning the gate, make coffee to the D.P. And maybe I forget some. Dimitrios Koukas
  2. And that means, that u are looking for a silent camera? Dimitrios
  3. The cream drops are 35mm, and the two kids, the girl is Beta SP, while the table with coffee is Digibeta. Actually there is no film industry here, all Greek movies must consider indepented (budget wise). Most of the Dp's working in tv shows, tv series and commercials. For the commercials we use 35mm or S16, and there are only 2 HD cameras!!! One Sony cine alta and one panasonic something. Only one director shoots Panavision and it is Th. Aggelopoulos. All the film facilities and telecine's work mostly on Tv adverts, and we are too many for this jobs, wich means that the competition is huge. Dimitrios Koukas
  4. Another thing that u can do to see if it is your negative, or the telecine, is just to check the negative itself, with a magnifying loop or in a clear viewer of some short. If you see green colour at the specific place, then it is the negative stock or the lens,If not , it's the telecine. I have had a similar problem with motored escalators, and together with the follow focus there was a magentaish line that was following. That was a lens problem (I was using century's low angle prism, that did it. 5. I pretty much agree with David here for this effect. Is it like there is magenta in the midtones somehow? This has to do with knee colour correction.or the rest that David mentioned Dimitrios Koukas
  6. Jonathan, Thank you very much for your post, This are just grabs from my dvd show reel and some of them are really bad compressed, but I can see what you mean, and thanks. No the girl is just from a tv filler kind of program, that had to do with clubs, drinks and entertainment. That was from 1996. Dimitrios Koukas
  7. What type of ARRI are u looking for? Dimitrios Koukas
  8. Ok, gj there m8! What film did you use? Dimitrios
  9. And the huge flare coming form the direction of the sun was thru the magazine, opposite operator's side?? I know that the image is recorded inverted there but... Dimitrios Koukas
  10. I am open to any thoughts or criticism about my work, please feel really free to say anything, it will help me. Thank you, Dimitrios Koukas

    how to shoot

No problem if you go for DVCAM or DVCPRO,as this is for educanional or archive purposes only, and it goes for DVD. As for his class it would be I guess something less than 2 hours the most? I would suggest you to have 2 cameras one for the audience and one for the teacher,as for the sound you will need one microphone, or two that can cover the class and one levalier wireless mic on him. Find a well litted classroom, and don't use any lights if the light on the classroom suits you. in case u want some more add one 4bank kinoflo near each camera. Turn the lights of the classroom off, this will give a better look,(usually the rooms have windows on the side of it). As for the blue-whites thing, just do your white balance with 5600K filter on camera, and use infront of the lens a small piece of 1/4 C.T.B. This will trick the cameras white balance, and will add some more blue. Do the same for both cameras. That's my general suggestions, I hope that I have been helpfull. Dimitrios Koukas
  12. It's a very nice advert stylistic wise, But I believe that it misses the highlights and the bottle colour looks to me a bit ''dull''. I don't know , maybe it's my monitor, but I believe it needed some more. All of it looks underexposed.Like there are no whites in it. Same with the colour of the beer, heineken is a bit more ''blonde''. Dimitrios Koukas
  13. Thanks again, but I ve got it from the previous post. Thanks. I have to find out now if the theaters here have anything for 1,75. Dimitrios Koukas
  14. Ok, it was the blow up process I was having in mind and mixed up the issues. So the wet printing mask is 1.37. God! too much telecine in my life ! :) Dimitrios Koukas
  15. Do u mean 3-pin canon XLR? The difference is on the shield, some of them are better shielded and some others aren't. Usually u can see the difference visually (by my own experience, a thicker cable is most of the times better shielded) Another thing is the quality of the plugs. Some are gold coated, some anodiaised etc. But you better ask a sound engineer for better explanations. I don't even know some terms well in English. Dimitrios Koukas

    Shooting Sun

Anyway, Sun has always been a problem for me here in Greece, cause I rarely can found any cloud here, so most of the times is on my frames. Noone have ever charged me for burnning anything like ccd's or films or anything. I would have noticed the moment after. But anyway, I remember camera's that had a problem with the sun. Sony's M3, a tube camera.U can't even point at a single highlight without having the ''comet'' effect. I am mentionning this just for historical reasons.I was using this as a cameraman back in 1988. CCD's where on the market then, but some companies were using them. Dimitrios Koukas
  17. Thank you John, You have just broaden my knowledge.Really appreciated. The French did it again! Believe me it took me too long to learn the gears on a citroen 2CV! Dimitrios Koukas
  18. I believe that u can find them in Sony broadcast stores? No idea if there is different for Pal or NTSC, I am using some film emulating cards for the old 7245,7248 etc. No idea if there is any difference for NTSC. (Never The Same Colour) ;) Dimitrios Koukas
  19. Thanks John, we do have some ''ancient'' labs here, so I will know by tommorow. Dimitrios Koukas
  20. Thanks, I am crashing the black a bit and tone the highlights for tv adverts, and i this on a Cintel's C-Reality or Ursa Gold, daVinci's 2K or Renaissance 888 color correctors at 4:4:4 , and I know the capabilities, just wondering if there's another option in terms of an experiment and if someone have done anything with a different result. SevenStars here in Greece is a brand new laboratory set-up by Eastman Kodak. Dimitrios Koukas
  21. Thank you David, You got my question covered as always. I was just wondering that, if this has to do also with the laboratories printing, so maybe u can find this gate in an old house like the ones we have here in Greece? I believe I ve seen some 1.66 movies here, so maybe there are some theaters that still using it! And as I remember they do print something like 1,75:1 here. It's just croped at the theaters. I will ask tommorow some labs I know. Dimitrios Koukas
  22. I am just curius to know if the 1,75:1 theatrical format is still used for theatrical release, or everything now is related to 1,85:1 ? Dimitrios Koukas
  23. What would happen if you take two tapes, hard disk media or whatever and then make them two layers in the editing that will blend together as an 100% superimpose? Dimitrios Koukas
