  1. thank you. I was especially exited about the lumberjack/ tomato soup red of his jacket.
  2. thanks Toby. the transfer was done at Downstream Media here in Portland Oregon.
  3. A Mentos commercial? Whoa, not cool man. not cool. just kiddin'.
  4. Hey, thanks a lot. Jumping through the air to a freeze frame. I like it. we should have thought of that. Might have fit the sort of 70's, 80's beer commercial feel that we were sorta, kinda of going for.
  5. sorry about the double post. Couldn't figure out how to delete one of them.

  8. thanks! you are right, it's not really a trailer. I guess it's meant to accompany the script and resemble a trailer. I realize that it doesn't tell much about the story and I'm OK with that. I just want to give folks an idea of the look and feel that I'm after. The story is about the events surrounding a fanatic religious cult at the turn of the century. It's centers around the destruction of a particular family. I shot this footage on 7201 color neg with the intention of going B&W with it and I've always imagined this in B&W but I got to admit, the color looked really nice and I was seduced by it. I went back and forth on it a bit and decided to stick with my guns. I'm convinced B&W is the right decision for this project and I'm happy with it despite the fact that it will likely be a harder sell. Here's a newer version of the cut that we jokingly refer to as the "Hollywood version"
  9. hey, thank you very much. I have an Eclair ACL2 converted to super16 with Zeiss lenses, one 12mm mk1, and 50mm and 85mm, f1.4 contax still lenses mounted with a c-mount adaptor. for the indoor shots I used a 25mm switar. the lighting was all done with a very basic lowell light kit with the help of some smoke. Here is a more current version of the trailer with the voice over: newer, shorter version take care, Ted
  10. Thank you. I think you are right. I'm going to cut it down. take care, ted
  11. Thank you for your input. I've already recorded a new voice over with an older sounding voice since I posted this. I also agree with some of your comments and I'm already cutting out some of the same stuff you mentioned. I'm OK with the glimpse of the gun that does not fire. I like it that way. I also like the darkness. I'm not sure what you mean regarding the egocentric thing of the character. these versions were works in progress. Personally, the first one is more my style. the second one was an attempt to make a more normal hollywoodesque trailer, not my forte. but you are right. i'm cutting the it way down. take care, ted
  12. What is the official title of these sort of trailers anyway? Pitch trailers? fund raising trailers? I don't know what to call them.
  13. Hello, These are 2 promotional trailers made to help lure potential investors for my first feature film that I wrote the screenplay to and hope to direct within the year. These are just temporary actors and such, just something to give investors and other interested parties an idea of what the film will look like and what my producer and I are capable of with zero dollars. I have very little cinematography experience but I shot these as well as directing, acting, producing, editing, wardrobe, etc... exhausting stuff. I'll probably need to fix a few things with the audio and record a new voice over but these are mostly finished. Please let me know what you think. "art house version" "hollywood version" thanks, E.P. Davee
  14. There's no such model as a ACL III. If you are getting an ACL, you will want to try to get an ACL 1.5 (an ACL 1 made in France) or an ACL II. Any ACL made in France will be an ACL 1.5 or an ACL II. That camera on Ebay does not have the ideal motor with multiple speeds up to 75fps. Here's your best source for ACL info: eclair S16 note the link to the ACL mailing list. Ugly? No way. Personally, i think the NPR is one of the sexiest looking camera's out there.
  15. For Kurosawa films set in more contemporary settings, I would recommend "High and Low", "Dersu Usala", and "Ikiru" I also reallty like a lesser known one called "One Wonderful Sunday". I think it was his 6th film.
  16. damn. a nice older model 2 stage 4x4 Petroff bellows just sold on ebay for $224.50. I missed it. Thanks for your advice I'll take a look at the Formatts as well. take care, Edward
  17. Thank you Mitch. that is a very helpful reply to a subject that, for some reason, is very hard to find information on. For now, my poor man's camera package starts with a zeiss 12mm MK1 super speed and ends with an 85mm zeiss contax still lens (with c-mount to contax adaptor). So, as soon as I find a 25mm MK1 that I can afford, I'll have the following Zeiss lenses: 12mm MK1 superspeed 25mm MK1 (probably) superspeed 50mm Contax still 85mm Contax still I am wondering about the Cavision 4x4's for their affordability but I don't think they house 4x5.65 filters. Can anyone tell me if the latest Cavision 4x4 bellows mattebox would cover a 12mm superspeed lens for super 16? Given the list of lenses above, and the mattebox budget of $500 or less, are there any other recommendations? thanks again, Edward
  18. What's the deal with Matte boxes and super 16? I've seen some with 4x4 matte boxes on them and I've seen some with 16:9 matte boxes. I've read that 4x4 is not suitable for super 16 and that the 4x4 filters with vignette, but I've also been told that 4x4 is fine for super 16. There seems to be alot of mixed information about this. Perhaps it has to do with whether you are using big zooms or primes? I know that a 4x4 matte is not cut to the same ratio as super16 but the matte box should still shield the lens, shouldn't it? I'm just a little confused and I can't find any clear answers. Also, 4x5.65 matte boxes usually have slots for 4x4 filters and just one for 4x4.65 filters and 4x4 matte boxes often include slots for 4x4.65 filters. What matte boxes do you all use with super 16? What should I avoid? Why are there no 16:9 matte boxes with bellows? Do all super 16 camera's use hard mattes only? thanks, Edward
  19. $2200 as a highest bid sounds reasonable as far as I can tell and it might be a pretty good deal if the camera has just been serviced as the seller states. It looks like it's an ACL 1.5 which means that it's French made and also has the French Mags which is good. The only problem that I can see is that it has the early ACL 1 viewfinder which is not the best option. The ACL 1.5 came with an Angeneuix viewfinder which was better but not nearly as good as the later, fully orientable and brighter Kinoptic Viewfinder that came with the ACL 2. You would be much better off with the Kinoptic but they may be hard to come by and may cost a couple hundred more, at least. You might get lucky and score it for under $2000. The seller has only sold 1 other item on ebay and that fact will scare away some of your competition for sure. I really don't know for sure, I'm no expert. I'm mostly just going by all that I've seen and read. I just got my own ACL recently so I'm still learning myself. I guess the best advice that I can think of is to make sure that it's the 1.5 (French Made) model before bidding up towards the $2000 mark and to look into getting a Kinoptic viewfinder. best of luck, Edward
  20. If you have an Eclair, you might be able to find a nice c-mount to Contax adaptor. I think they are pretty rare though. I was lucky enough to find one on ebay for $10. The company that made it is called Kenko. If you go with Contax Zeiss lenses you can find a 50mm planar f1.4 for about $150 and a 85mm/1.4 Distagon lense for around $500 in near mint condition. Same glass as super speed's, significantly cheaper.
