  1. If i remember correctly, that shot in Secret Window was accomplished through visual effects trickery--likely joining together two seperate shots, one of the exterior crane move and one of the interior crane move.
  2. You wont find it in Barnes and Noble thats for sure. Camera or equipment houses should carry it. Personally i find that they sometimes overcharge though. You can always order it from the website.

I dont have any handy unfortunately. Though i wouldnt recommend scrambling to make your own at the last minute, as it likely will be less than impressive. Mine took me many weeks of collecting and additions to find the right pieces. Though i suppose if you have no choice you just do what you gotta do; all you need is essentially is a pouch to keep stuff in, really. One AC i worked with just used an across-the-shoulder army pouch from WWII, looked like something Indiana Jones had (i dont recommed this though, as it doesnt hug the body well and thus gets in the way).

You could always go to a hardware or surplus store if you cant make it to a proper cine store. My AC gear is all custom made out of bits and pieces--army belts, altered tool pouches; heck my minimag light holder is a pepper spray holster that a friend who works in security gave me. Companies like Cine Bags charge so much money for gear you can just get yourself at a fraction of the cost. /end AC rant :P
  5. Thanks for all the replies guys, i think our most likely choice will be the Panatate.
  6. i actually have no idea, im not dping it but i just thought i would ask around and see. I believe it is to be a fixed rig, with the camera rotating on the lens axis.
  7. A shot for an upcoming production requires the camera to rotate 180 degrees in-camera. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this? I know there are gyroscopic mounts out there but i am ignorant to any information about them.
  8. I would definitly be all for that! Theres so many DP and lighting forums on the net it would be nice to have a place for assistants to talk.
  9. The Aaton III is such a pain. Arri makes such no-hassel cameras and the BL-4 is nice and simple and will be very easy for you to use. I dont think it will be too noisey for you. The only thing is that i think it is much bulkier than the Aaton III, especially with a 1000' mag on it.
  10. How exactly do you measure focus for video and where do you measure from? I remember being told once that measurements should be made from the tip of the lens barrel, but recently someone mentioned to me that it is in fact where the film plane would be in a normal film camera, just behind where the lens connects to the body. Just wondering what the correct method is, as the difference between these two distances can be quite severe, especially when using longer lenses.
  11. Hello. First post here. Im wanting to get into shooting my own film, mostly to experiment and learn techniques and maybe even to shoot some shorts with. Im planning on getting my own 16mm camera and I'm relatively new to the market, having shot almost exlusively on Arri SR2, which is out of my price range. Im on a pretty tight budget. So with a little reading and shopping, basically the two cameras that keep coming up, that seem to be both durable, cheap and high quality are the Krasnogorsk 3 and the Bolex h16. I've shot on the bolex, which would be good enough for me, but ive never used the Krasnogorsk, but the stuff ive seen from it looks just as good if not better than Bolex material. Both of these cameras i know are highly recommended, and i seem to be leaning towards the Krasnogorsk. However, someone once told me that they are no good, that the image is unstable and I might as well shoot DV24p yada yadda yadda. Anyway, what is peoples opinions on the matter here? Is there a better option for me to go with? (sorry about the NOObish question BTW)
