  1. Find out what the house fee is. You want to make sure you own the master rights and not the board op. You have to cover your behind when it comes to "errors and omissions" insurance. Re: the quad display- do you really want to tether your cameramen like that? I guess if you have planty of angles that's fine but if you're limited on cameras make the most of them and let them find coverage for you- just my opinion. You probably won't be responsible for the lighting but call the lighting tech ahead of time to see if he'll add an ND filter to his spots to bring the exposure latitude down for you. Should be no problem. Radio's, batt's, transpo, ins., tapestock, tranfers/dup's, pa's, food, you know the rest.
  2. The one I got appears to be DOA. I got it from a friend and it has sentimental value, it's actually got some history to it, so I'd like to get it running. Can anyone recommend a repair shop in Los Angeles?
  3. Okay, nice lighting job but STRANGE movie. Anybody see this?
  4. I just obtained one of these myself. Any luck on locating the manual? Bill
  5. The trials and tribulations of a photographer. Have a speedy recovery, David.
  6. Ha! You know what it's like, you shoot a roll of film with your new camera and you get excited. That was the only roll I shot that day.
  7. Great images, the word pristine comes to mind. Looks like the Polish brothers most accessible film to date. Congratulations, David.
  8. Has anyone manufactured anamorphic lenses/attachments for the Sony F900 or 950, and if so can you point to some examples? I've seen anamorphic adapters mentioned by searching the web but has anyone on this board used them in the field? Thanks,
  9. Oaxaca Crisis The situation in Oaxaca continues to heat up. Last Friday three people including New York journalist and activist Brad Will were shot dead by members of government backed death squad (see photo below). The crisis started, when Oaxaca governor Ulises Ruiz quelled protests after he allegedly stole the last election outcome in his state. A raid on a teachers' demonstration in the local Zocalo started riots, which still go on. Brad was a videographer for Indymedia, training fellow activists in documenting police abuse during hairy situations. He had established Indymedia branches in Latin America and had been beaten once while documenting an attack on homesteaders in Brazil. In the US there were 15 demonstrations protesting his death. The gunmen are still on the loose. In a recent development the Zapatista are mobilizing for Oaxaca. In a speech in Chihuahua City Subcomander Marcos announced the Zapatista rebels' total support for the people of Oaxaca and summarized the situation: "As of today, the federales have killed at least three people, including a minor; left dozens injured, including several Oaxacan women; and detained dozens, who have been illegally held in military prisons." Mexico seems to be falling back into the pre-democratic days of 1970s and 1980s Latin America. A memorial site for Brad Will with a letter of support signed by a.o. 10. Because I didn't see her leave the window I assumed she died until you put in the slate. It felt like it was building up to her release, just an editorial criticism. You're camera work was very good, a couple shots felt like the auto focus or the operator was hunting for an object to focus on but over-all a very nice piece. Decent selection in music.
  11. Alice Adams (1935) The scene of Alice (Katharine Hepburn) weeping at her rain-spattered bedroom window after returning home from the dance.
  12. I've always like the fact that you can ZOOM through a diopter with the added benefit of a reduced close focus distance.
  13. I'm shooting a set visit to a sequel of a 'family' film in Montreal next month. I'd like to view a few "Behind the Scenes" Bonus Features with the producer. Aside from Pixar films this isn't really a genre I'm very versed in. Any recomendations are much appreciated. Thanks,
  14. "Vulgar" Executive Produced by Kevin Smith. A movie about a clown raping.
  15. If you want to shoot at a T2.8 you first need to determine the ASA of the camera. The formula then works like this: 10,000/ASA=F.C.'s required to acheive a T2.8 You can see from the formula that you need to determine one of the variables ahead of time, either the ASA or the available amount of footcandles. Example for ASA 200 stock: 10,000/200=50 footcandles to acheive a t2.8 Example for ASA 500 stock: 10,000/500=20 footcandles This assumes a 180 degree shutter. I honestly don't know how much gain increases a camera's ASA. As for the HVX, I haven't rated it but I think ASA 200 is pretty safe. So for a std. exposure you may think of using 50 footcandles and factor from there based on your required shutter speed, filter pack, etc. If you wanted to key at 4.8 footcandles you would need to acheive an ASA of 2083.33 10,000/2083.33=4.8 footcandles Now you need to study how many foot candles your lights will put out at the distances appropriate to your shoot and understand the inverse square law so you can predict the fall off. There's software for all this stuff. Check the download section of this website on the home page.
  16. And that would be a great response for me to capture, Phil. I like the simple, off-hand remark that says volumes. Thanks,
  17. Okay. So far we have three guys in LA with too much time on our hands!
  18. Gotta be film of the year so far. Loved it. Loved all the cinematography. Tokyo was beautiful but Morrocco was much more daring, as was blandly lit border jail. Very naturalistic without being showy. Rodrigo Prieto has really matured nicely as an artist.
  19. I was the exact same way. For whatever reason I am much more employable and confident as a shooter. I guess it's because I genuinely enjoy it.
  20. Let's get a show of hands here: Who's interested? Let's list our names and location. Maybe some people can buddy up. Once we see how many "Teams" we have, we can begin deliberating on a script of some sort. 1) Bill Totolo - Los Angeles
  21. That's great input, James. Much appreciated.
  22. <<Have they been this way from birth or has it been degenerative ? That would have a bearing on the persons perception of the world that most of us 'know' - you could research it, or just start with that (; >> Good point. She was born sighted but lost that as an adult. She retrained herself as a masseuse so she could support herself without her vision. I believe she's always been deaf. I'm a believer that the response is more interesting than the question so I don't want to get to far adrift but I welcome anyone's input. This is a very diverse community.
  23. I think it would be interesting to take the same short story and see how different people interpret it. It would make a great feature project that could be show in festivals. Keep it short so more people can join in.
  24. I may have a project where I interview a subject who is blind and deaf. What were the first questions that came to mind when you read the headline to this posting? There's a lot of creative people out there so I'm hoping to tap into your creativity. If you want to know how she communicates, she uses sign language. To understand you she places her hands over yours as you sign.
  25. Clapper/Loader=The lowest guy on the totem pole responsible for loading film for that million dollar scene. First guy on set loading mags and taking inventory, last guy home after dropping exposed neg. off to the lab.
