  1. Hey guys , What is the difference between 35mm film for slr cameras and 35mm film for cinema? sorry for the rookie question! Coady Marshall
  2. we are still and will always be the best and brightest hope for freedom throughout the world and you and everyone else knoes it. Wow, how very American. (what about Canada) There was never a question about dropping the first bomb. It would end the war and would save lives, but the Jananese military was so fanatical that even after the first single bomb destroyed an entire city If you had ever been to the hiroshima memorial or read any non american propaganda history, you would know the A- bomb was being built years before the japanese were desperatly suicidal. They planned on bombing Japan before the war had begun. Just to clarify!
  3. Can`t wait to see the documentory! But some of you guys have some very seriously conditioned views that should be thought about twice before stating opinions as facts!
  4. Maybe you will find your answers here! http://www.redrockmicro.com/home.html Good luck! Coady Marshall
  5. Thanks for the great info and advice. English manual (excellent) glad I don`t have to decode the russian manual. Coady Marshall
  6. Why not? You just need the right kind of mount. 35mm still lenses are a little softer but compared to the price of cinema lenses it `s a good alternative. I have an Fx1 and use nikons with a nikon lens mount on the adapter and have got some really sharp images. you might have to do some experimentation to set the flange focus properly but once fully tweaked the results are impressive. 7. Hey guys Just recieved my k3 in the mail today. I have never used a 16mm camera before so please forgive the newbie questions. What kind of film do you guys use ? Is it double super8 or 16mm? double perf? If so where do you buy this kind of film, Isn`t it discontinued? Thanks Coady Marshall
  8. I don`t know about that. I have an FX1 and a Micro 35 adapter which gives similar results to P.S. technik. I took apart the adapter and gave it some serious tweaking , found a few vintage nikons and the picture came out quite sharp. The problem is if your camera is NTSC and you want to deinterlace 60i to 24p in post, (not the crappy sony cineframe way) You will lose half the vertical resolution, Almost defeating the purpose of HDV. Coady Marshall
  9. I agree too, I also bought it and it`s very informative. Worth the money indeed! Coady Marshall
  10. Hey everybody , I am thiking about getting a couple of 3000w silent Kipor portable generators, Has anyone tried this as a pwer source? At full load it`s 60dBs, pretty quiet. What do you guys use for small unit portable power sources? thanks
  11. Hey guys Well this might be a stupid question but here we go. I am using a 35mm adapter on the FX1 and using a 20mm nikkor 2.6 and getting some mad light falloff. I have tried many things with little results. I know center filters are used mostly in larger photo formats but do you think this may help? If you have any advice or opinions I would love to hear it. Thanx Coady Marshall
  12. Cool topic but very complicated I just recently got into film, Well actually video because I would like to learn on cheaper equipment and post. Some advice for the last poster, My father is a lawyer and my mother is in politics and getting a degree in something (non arts) was one of their obsessions for me to do. I chose not to listen to them because I wasn`t sure what I really wanted to do. This did not help my family situation, but at least I can follow my own passion, without their help I might add. As far as film school, It would be a great experience and I would probably go If I could afford to, but I can`t. So instead I bought over 30 books on all aspects of making film, watched tons of movies with new perspectives and read many great forums like this. There is a lot of education out there to learn just about anything, as some other posters have said. Meeting contacts is the same as any other sort of proffession that obligliges. I`m also a musician that did not go to music school, but have played over 100`s of concerts through people I have met in clubs, friends of friends, adds, flyers you name it. Just be outgoing, never stop doing what you love to do,make good work, try festivals, and lastly I think a positive attitude really turns people on to you and will make the harder times better. Coady Marshall :)
  13. Hey Everybody Great advice thanks , ok where to start. The dormatory is actually quite big, 4 floors. So We will be very selective on the shots we decide on and try to control it the best we can , there are some large windows so we will also be using some reflectors and bounce cards too, and hope we can make do. I think I will go with the softbank kit, But yes Japan is 100v but I was thinking of using a couple 120v- 100v 3000watt downconverters because I dont know where or how to rewire the fixtures. I`m not in the Japanese production buisness but I think you`re right on about it being a little shotty when it comes to lighting. I will also pick up a few 100w at the home depot( in japanese they call this DIK stores) Thanks again for the advice guys. Coady Marshall
  14. Hey Everybody I`m new to this forum but I have read many posts, very informative. I have one question mabey you guys could help me out with. I live in Japan and here lights are extremely expensive to buy and because of the location I live in renting is not a very good option either. I`m interested in purchasing a light kit , I know many say this is not the way to go but I feel this may be my best option. I am thinking about an ARRI soft bank kit. (one 1k, 2 650 fresnes, one 350 ) I will be using an FX1 with a 35mm adapter. The location where we will be filming is an abandent dormatory with working electricity. We are going for a dark kind of mood. This is getting a little long so I`ll sum this up. What do guys think about this kit and do you think that this may work for what we are trying to do. Thanks a lot Coady Marshall
